Actually, probably the best video I've seen on C308 disassembly. Picked mine up last month at Cabela's. Ordered 20 extra magazines from Cheaper Than Dirt, since they had free shipping on orders over $50. Don't think I'll ever need to order more.

For those whom have never worked with feeler gauges: 1. The resistance should be similar to pulling a sheet of paper out from under a magazine. 2. Close them by grouping thinner gauges to thicker gauges. This prevents bending or kinking that can ruin a gauge. 3. Wipe gauges with a lightly oiled rag to prevent corrosion. 4. Always store closed in a safe location, separate from your other tools. Keep measurement and indicating tools in their own drawer, bin, or similar to prevent damage. They are some of your most important investments to producing quality work, with when checking firearms or fabricating parts.

Thank you so much for making this video! I have taken the delayed rollback part apart before and had an absolute nightmare with trying to figure out how it gets put back together without instruction. For somebody that did this for their first time, you did a really good job of showing how it's supposed to be done.

Just got my C308. Reassembled the bolt to the locking piece and carrier, but could not get it to unlock to loosen the rollers so it could be reinserted into the receiver. Glad I found this video, by moving the bolt back a click and using a file as leverage, it`s in and functional. Off to the range right now.

Thank you for this video! Excellent step by step instructions. I've never had a roller lock before, now I'm not as afraid to disassemble the bolt for cleaning and maintenance.

High 5's on your clarity of explanation and the ability to actually see (great lighting and focus) what you were doing. I purchased my Son's C308e and, after numerous months, I'm pretty sure he's not going to be buying it back. Looked at it this morning and I don't think he EVER cleaned it. Now I can comfortably break it down and get it ready for it's maiden voyage at my local range. Thanks again. ~G.Alan Fink NRA RSO and Firearms Instructor.

Quick tip. To get the rollers compressed after reassembling the bolt group, turn the bolt carrier backwards and push it down into the receiver. The frame will force the rollers in and open the bolt. Then simply pull the bolt out and flip it over and install as normal. Hope this helps some fingers from damage.

I do have some experience with the HK G3 series of rifles. I hate the lack of the magazine paddle, and I do prefer the HK style rear drum sights. Other than that, these rifles are machines that are meant to be used.

If you hate the lack of a paddle spend an extra 400 on a PTR91 and get the paddle mag release and all new US parts.

Thanks for a great usefull well made vid. I just today got a CETME (Spanish) rifle, made as semi auto for civil use (!) and as new old stock, had been converted from .307win (a rimmed .308 as the latter was forbidden to civilians in Spain) to .308 using new HK G3 bolt and carrier. So I end up pushing the bolt into the bolt carrier and it clicks and out pop the rollers, so I couldn't get Humpty together again! Thanks a million for this video, you saved me mate. The bolt parts are all black and pretty tight, springs are very strong, to turn the bolt on the carrier I used a wrench on the side flats as I was afraid to damage running surfaces. BTW the external metalwork is gray phosphate and the furniture is wood with the old STG45/K98 slot for the carry strap through the stock. these old guns have magazine paddle and even feature the full auto markings on the lower receiver with a stop to emphasize it wont work.
@giuseppe49093 жыл бұрын
When using the feeler gauge, start larger and work down. If you start with the smaller and work up, you can get a false reading because you may be slightly wedging the bolt away.

Free tip: The pins should go in in alternating directions. Soldiers did this to prevent them being accidentally being knocked out. If they go different ways you can't accidentally knock them both out.
@SALTYCOMBATDIVER-ExInstructor3 жыл бұрын
Gotta love being multilingual. The Spanish videos of actual soldiers who used these give great tricks for maintaining these rifles and you don't have to understand Spanish to see them. But apparently one trick is to use the sling to remove and replace the bolt.

Now i will have to go take mine back apart and check everything. Thanks. Have you done a video on the trigger pack?
@michaelthebarbarian33804 жыл бұрын
You ABSOLUTELY MUST completely strip these guns and clean them like you would any other Milsurp. Mine still had quite a bit of cosmo in and around the bolt, Receiver and recoil assembly. I used PB Blaster and Break Cleaner and scalding hot water for the initial cosmoline clean, then I go through with a standard cleaning and finish up with a bit of oil.

The battlefield way of checking the bolt gap is disassemble it right. Push the bolt back against the carrier and if the firing spring is not pushing out then your gap is wide enough…. If your firing pin is sticking out a little bit when at home that’s dangerous grounds for misfire when chambering and also a runaway rifle which is terrifying. But if the firing pin is only sticking out when you press it in from the rear of the carrier and not any other way then you’re safe. My Daniel defense DDM5V1 terrified me… it would always put a little dent in the primers when I chambered one because of the free floating firing pin….. I was going to install a firing pin spring or even make one to make it a little safer… thank God for the ultra hard primers otherwise I’d be injured by now. But yeah that’s the reasoning behind it from my knowledge and if you don’t see the firing pin then you’re good to go. The spring is like 100000X safer than a free floating pin.

Good luck keeping that thing clean lol. They get very dirty, by design though. That’s about how they look after 80 rounds. Easy way to release the rollers from the locked position is to insert your carrier into the receiver backwards and shove it in. The edge of the receiver hits the rollers and releases them.

Locking piece should be at an angle so the sleeve is most prevelant through the 'window' When putting the bolt head back into the carrier(upside down): push all the way in, turn clockwise one click, pull out, turn clockwise second click, pull out, turn to third and final click. Done. Bolt will be in its correct orientation
