Thanks for this info my farrier just doesn’t worry so much about this and I can see it’s getting worse.

Hi Fallon, Thank you for your comments on the 2MT video you viewed. I’d like to address some of your concerns and hopefully put your mind at ease. As was stated in the video, this was a long-term case, 7 months, in the making. Most toe cracks of this sort are due to improper trimming that leaves too much toe in the front impeding break-over thereby putting pressure on the toe which eventually cracks. As you know, these cases are not solved overnight. The reason that you saw sole below the wall was due to the secondary crack and the overall condition of the hoof capsule. Pat was relieving any pressure points that would cause the hoof wall to contact the ground and put pressure on the crack which would make matters worse. As noted, this horse is not being worked or ridden during this period so there is no issue with this horse bearing weight on the soles which they are designed to do anyway. If this horse was being ridden then it would be a concern. It was also mentioned that if the hoof wall integrity was compromised that we could employ a sole support pour in pad that would help stabilize the hoof. In this instance it was not necessary. Not knowing the history of the horse or the conditions it lives in always makes it difficult to judge treatment options Fallon. Please know that for this horse, in theses conditions that this was a great solution and the horse is doing very well at this point. Between the two men, there is over 70 years of very successful trimming and shoeing of recreational, competitive and therapeutic horses.

Hi, Can you please explain what Pat meant by "stabilize the foot with a sole pour"? How would a pour in Pad, stabilize the hoof wall if compromised through resection? Thank you for you time! Love the videos! Ty

Hi Tyler, As the horse bares weight into the sole, the sole flexes downward. When this happens the hoof wall moves away from center. When we pour pads this fills the void between the sole and the ground which minimizes the amount of downward movement of the sole as well as the outward movement of the hoof wall. Good question, thank you for posting it. Tab

Some people will draw blood to relieve pressure. It seems not needed here, is that right? Only if abcessed?

Will a hoof soak, such as Clean Trax, kill the fungus?
@VettecProducts7 жыл бұрын
Hi LindyTN, If it is a bacterial or fungus, a soak will help, if it can get to it. I find that a lot of the cracks I have run into are an impaction about half way up the foot. I will open those up and then treat with a disinfectant. You can try a soak but if it does not clear up, opening it up is the only other choice. Thanks for the question. Tab Pigg

Hi there, one of our horses is hanging a huge problem with a toe crack that is never going away. Over two years ago there was an abscess that blue above the toe at the coroner band . We had a terrible farrier in our area. We have had a certified farrier for just over a year. This crack will look like it is over then crack all over again. There has been x rays showing no seedy toe. This past few days , snow is melting they are wet 24/7 and just noticed the crack is gone beyond where it was notched out. You can put a probe up into the crack and it seems to go an inch deep. Hallow in behind . I know he needs this done or it will never stop but every farrier around here has refused to do it. I'm so frustrated and we will pay anything to get him fixed . What can we do? I have also taken farriery recently but not confident enough to do the recession. Or maybe I could .. I just want this to be fixed final and for all.

+Angela Paulson Hello Angela, The first thing I would consider is, does the white line follow the wall smoothly around the foot or does it change directions there at the crack? If it does that it’s what is called a dorsal notch, which means the coffin bone has a small area of bone missing right in the toe of the bone. This is common in draft horses and not that uncommon in saddle horses. All you can do with it is to relieve the wall contact in that area. The bone dictates the shape of the white line. It could be that when what ever created the abscess left a track behind and it is weak wall attachment with the lamina. This can be opened up and cleaned out. This will take after care on your part to keep it cleaned out until the new wall grows in. It can be covered but you have to know that there is no bacteria behind the repair before you cover it. I’m not sure where you live, but I have to think there is a farrier or vet that can handle getting in there and removing the damaged area. I also suggest putting a pair of shoes and some type of pad just to help shift the weight over the whole foot not just the wall. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help on this. Thank you for the question Tab Pigg CJF Vettec Regional Sales Manager 817-475-8198

It won't 'heal'! It will grow out. It is what we in Australia refer to as 'seedy toe'. It is caused by an an-aerobic microbe and you have to excise every last vestige of it . It is the only way to beat it. Even then sometimes when you come back is six weeks you can find that it is still attacking the hoof. No! You are not "fairly aggressive with it". It appears to me that you need to go quite a bit further! You have to cut out EVERY last vestige of it, believe me! farriertotrim.com.au

ok, mettere anche i piedi in bacinella con aceto e verderame, oppure acqua di mare per eliminare tarli, per diversi gg.
