I might give this a try I been suffering with this for over a year and Doctors would say its anxiety and all in my head. Until I got this great Dr. finally sent me to do a cervical MRI and it showed all my discs in neck are bulging and pinching some of my nerves. Doctor says my dizziness came from my neck...

Finally. An explanation for the dizziness I feel. Posture. My neck leans forward quite a bit, almost like I have a hump on my back. After trying your exercises I feeL like I can finally cure myself through repetition of them. I also tried a friends inversion table and felt immediate relief.

same my neck leans forward and it feels sleepy and had panic attacks for the last 2 weeks where I felt dizzy and now I realise it could be the posture too and im not really sitting , always lying down on a chair unless I have my dinner /lunch but ll lie down while having my breakfast and maybe that's bad.

I was concerned about cervircogenic dizziness because I have had neck problems. I went to a specialist and she took me off a medication that I had been on for several years. My dizziness was gone in two days and probably never needed that medication. Don't forget the side effects of long-term use of medications. (Sorry pharmaceutical companies.)

Dr. THX for this iNfo. Your description of Cervicogenic conditions of dizziness is solid, but even a little short of what Cervical Instabilities can do to your entire body. I have CI (C3-C7 and T1-T2 disc issues and DDD with Facet Joint arthritis and a Military Neck (loss of the curve). CI can not only cause Dizziness, Imbalance, Vertigo, but Tinnitus, Chronic Sinusitis, ear & eye pains, even in some doctors' opinions: IBS , Chest Pains , and Bladder / Bowel Incontinence. The upper Cervical discs as you know, allow for the channel of he Vagus Nerve(s) - thear are 2 - 1 on each side. The Vagus Nerve is The Motherlode of all Cranial Nerves affecting the entire parasympathetic autinomic Nervous system. I'm no doctor , however after mnay years of research seeking Relief from my spinal maladies including Fibromyalgia. These exercises are very good and fortify waht I have learned as well. I will subscribe.

My wife was dx with cervicogenic dizziness 6 months ago. She has done PT and all these exercises. No help, we now know she has pppd there is no quick fix for this. It's quite common and often mis diagnosed. Symptoms are woozyness, made worse by walking thru the grocery store etc. It's not spinning vertigo more a constant feeling of spaced out and made worse by walking in busy visual areas as mentioned. If you have this research and find the right help. Many people suffer for years before they figure it out.

Thank you Marrow! What modality do you most recommend for manual therapy relieving the tension from an active neck strain coinciding with cervicogenic vertigo/dizziness? I.e. spinal manipulation, tissue mobilization? I'm doing exercises in addition, but I know from regular use of a lacrosse ball and activity, it's still difficult to get the cervical restrictions on my own. I'm hopeful manual could help when it comes to the bedtime pillow pressure on my occiput that seems to recreate symptoms bc everything is guarding right now. I do feel some knots coming and going around my neck which would feel tender when they are there.. Is that normal? Also, do you think doing these exercises and others will totally heal the dizziness in time? In other words, as long as I have disk problems (which may me for life), will I get totally out of dizziness? Thanks.

What is a 1mm lift of the head? To me lifting is straight up, you mean a slight tilt forward? And why 1mm? How are we supposed to know if we tilted or "lifted" 1mm or 2mm or even 5mm? I'm confused 😕
@physiotipswithmarrow5836
@physiotipswithmarrow5836 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabzsy, Your comment made me laugh out loud. I totally agree that sometimes in medical circles we can give confusing cues. The occiput lift exercise can also be described as a very slight lowering of your chin so that your head is now neutral. This takes stress of the back of the head and encourages your deep neck muscles to provide support to your spine. Hope that helps!

@@physiotipswithmarrow5836 ok Marrow, then I find that very strange? I'm sure you realize that the replies I posted were regarding PPPD which is what the person was asking about. @@physiotipswithmarrow5836 that would be awesome ! I realize your specialty is orthopedic related physical therapy but I notice that you do treat BPPV and cervocogenic dizziness at your clinic which yes technically are orthopedic or positional in nature. So while a part of your practice and some of your videos relate to dizziness caused by those 2 conditions there are other conditions that cause dizziness such as PPPD (which interestingly is sometimes the long term result of whiplash injuries). The problem for patients is often what Dr they see GP, ENT, Neurologist, Audiologist, Chiropractor? It's a frustrating process fortunately for my wife after she began treatment with a knowledgeable PT she realized after several sessions that it might be PPPD and not cervocogenic dizziness. She was correct.

How can I know for sure that this is what’s causing my dizziness? I was tested years ago & told I have an inner ear dysfunction but wasn’t told how to deal with it. Lately the dizziness has been worse & I am afraid to drive like this. Any thoughts to point me in a direction for help? Thank you.

When I do occipital lift, I feel more tension in my neck. Is it okay ?
@physiotipswithmarrow5836
@physiotipswithmarrow5836 Жыл бұрын
This can happen if the muscles in the back of the neck near the top (C1-3) are top. These muscles are referred to as the sub occipital muscles. I would not recommend pushing into discomfort as this could be counter productive. Visiting a physiotherapist to relieve this neck tension first could be helpful. Best wishes!

If the muscles at the base of the head are very tight, performing this posture could be provocative. You may need a professional to help stretch out your sub occipital muscles first. Hope that helps! Best of luck.

OK - I have had a serious C5 denegeration issue since my teens due to a very serious accident. I just did the first exercise, and the pain came instantly into that area of my neck. I had to stop immediately. I suffer from severe vestibular migraines - hence my visit here. Your opinion on whats going on for me with the sudden pain? I avoid pain in that area like the plague as I have been immobile (zero movement of neck) for up to a month when I get a serious twinge. Tx.

Great question. The principle of axial load to the spine when in pain could seem paradoxical for sure. Weightbearing for a broken leg also seems like a bad idea at first but to eventually rehab a leg we have to add in weight bearing AT THE RIGHT TIME. For neck pain, gently adding weightbearing will activate the protective muscles and deactivate tight muscles. The weightbearing must be gentle and pain free to be a good idea. Thanks for watching and for asking such an insightful question. Best of luck!

@@physiotipswithmarrow5836 no worries, confused a lot of people tho. Wish it was bppv that's an easy fix. PPPD is a nightmare and difficult to treat, can take years. The gold standard of treatment (VRT, SSRI,CBT) doesn't help too much for most. Virtual reality visual stimulation (optokinetics) seems to help many.

The pillow can be a great friend when sleeping. If you are a side sleeper you will probably want a medium firm, if back sleeping something softer. I definitely prefer a pillow for neutral spine positioning.
