I've always preferred beaker bottoms. Also, the terminology always bothered me. It's all based on scientific glass, but they call it the wrong thing; A beaker bottom is an Erlenmeyer flask and should be called flask bottom, and a straight tube is a Beaker and should be called a beaker bottom.

Both are great IMO, just comes down to personal preference. For a new smoker looking to get their first flower piece, go grab a breaker and make ur life 10x easier (they are typically easier to clean than straight tubes and are more sturdy with a wider base). I love my beaker and I’ve also loved all my straight tubes I’ve owned.

Straights tubes are elegant, simple geometry, less water to change fun to carry around. I don't mind looking down slightly when I'm ripping, makes it feel humble like prayer! I've even been known to carry 'ol reggie watts around outside.

Just got a 10 inch straight bong and I regret it. Needed to replace my old 8 inch beaker and it just doesn’t hit the same. Needs less water and the diffusable downstream isn’t removable. Almost has like an ash catcher for the downstem that makes it tastes worst. And idk, you can’t rip a straight bong as violently as you can snap/ rip the piece

I just purchased a Phoenix Straight tube (green) with a dedicated ash catcher, it's very pretty, too pretty to use!!!? I git a beaker too. I'm 75 y/o just came back to cannabis after 35 years but considering it was a crime!? The herb does help but not for long maybe a few hours and I really can't smoke to frequently. So, I'm still learning, I am a novice at my age!

Beakers are superior mainly for stability. If any bubblers of mine ever got broken it was usually a straight tube during cleaning. No idea why. I've been a water pipe user way longer than I want to admit. Usually an elbow, random arm or something unplanned knocks the straight tube over. I've got a small "orb" one like you've mentioned and I need to clean it really good because I'd like to make that a travel vape setup. Its got a leaf on it and the green stripes like the US flag. I've got an angled straight tube that needs a deep cleaning but I really don't have a use for it. I might get a nail for it.

Chemists in lab coats would call the straight tube a "beaker". And the one we call a beaker is actually a flask. An Erlemeyer flask to be exact. Google lab glassware images. But the world of weed does stuff like this all the time. For instance on the flower the trichome covered part is the bract, not calyx. The calyx is a tiny part inside of the bract. Look it up in Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal's book if you don't believe me.

I have both, they both have their pros and cons, str8 tubes are nice bc they clear instantly when you pull the slide, a beaker bottom the smoke tends to circle around in the bottom and it takes way longer to clear. The only benefit to them is they hold more water so you dont gotta change the water as often. Percs are wack. They were a fad 10-15 years ago, we got bongs with 40 percs, and they suck you cant clean em.

One thing that pisses me off with my straight pipe maybe it’s just me but I can never get the water level right after a few rips I’m always sucking water in or sum bs lol or they water level below the perc gets too low somehow

I found a 12" perc with a 4 tree bubbler but the mouth piece is like a swan head lol it curves so easy to.clean and such a nice rip. Fyi salt and rubbing alcohol but put a good amount in not too much you'll end up with a plugged piece rinse well happy smoke trails👽

beaker all the way 10 times easier to clean them. There are tons of bongs that are almost impossible to fully clean. A good quality classic beaker bong doesnt take long at all to clean it

I have a ROOR 50x9mm 18” straight and a 50x9mm 14” beaker. Both have the 13 hole down stem. And the straight kills bigger bowls less harsh than the beaker, similar to how a Toro 7/13 takes down Huge bowls and you feel nothing. The beaker is a bit harsher. Not as smooth.

The only beaker worth your time is whats offered by Designer Sci. They have proper shaping and the downstem is done better than any stock verison youll find. And they have been killing it for a while now. Unless you add as gridded stem to your beaker they are all the same rip.

Get a decent sovereignty 44 or an apix design for great strait tube , beakers are to airy , straight tubes are usually 18mm bowl 4 hole & don’t block up when smoking, beakers are 14mm single hole that blocks easily.

I have an 18” Straight and a 14” beaker. Both ROOR. Both 50x9mm. My straight can kill larger bowls and it’s super smooth. The beaker is a bit harsher and not as good at killing large bowls. My Toro 7/13 works the Best for killing big bowls, but the ROOR straight can compete. The beaker can’t compete at killing as large bowls with as smooth of a hit. Just my opinion

Both beaker and straight tube are nice. I preferance the tube without added percs and instead jus a downstem then u can get maximum flavor and can lean it back. For beaker i prefer one secondary filter cause jus gets ya such a smoothe filtered hit with the large volume of water in bottom not needing ro b changed as often as a straight tube bottom water gets. I change water daily but some pieces need multiple changes per day.

Professional chemist (and stoner) here, technically the straight tube is closer to a beaker than your "beaker" bong. The "beaker" bong is basically an Erlenmeyer flask with an extended neck. Beakers have vertical sides, flasks are curved or angled.
