These cats are REALLY well behaved & calm (being passed from judge to judge). What if my cat up & cuts some dude? Does that count against us? I'm honestly curious.

The cats are bred for disposition as well as appearance and often are gotten use to ring type handling early. However they can experience a sudden scare in the ring by a loud noise or some such thing and react in a problematic way. I have seen some cats that were demonstrably unhappy to be in a ring and really should not have been there. This is when a judge really needs to be able to read a cat's behaviour, experienced judges tending to get such a cat back to the ring cage quickly and quietly before they express their unhappiness. Sometimes owners/handlers are called up to handle the cat. While editing these cat show vids I do sometimes see judges with obvious wounds from recent encounters.

Happily CFA does use a PA (microphone) for this Best of the Best event. The echo is really bad, though, yes. Don't remember if that was the hall (and it just sounded like that) or my mic, though believe I'd got the new external mic by then, and it is a good mic, not on the CIA level, but a good consumer grade mic.

I'm intrigued by them. Black is a photographic challenge and they have an unusual profile so I really want to get a good look, taking video gets in the way of actually looking at the cats, sorta like the phone salute dims a concert experience.

Oh, they do. It's rare. I've not seen actual attacks myself, though I have seen some very unhappy cats. Some cats just shouldn't go to shows. Sometimes something sets a cat off, though I've seen cats who are just waiting for the opportunity too. Those ones really shouldn't be there. I saw much less of this (pretty much none) later on. But was not an atypical thing way back. Being close during some of these vids I've seen judges hands and arms indicating previous encounters of the violent kind.

I'm not so sure the cats are enjoying this. Constant grooming, baths ( most don't really like getting fully wet) the carrier- traveling, actually, staying in cages for hours, being picked up and held that way. Cats are a TOTALLY different animal from dogs. It's mostly for the owner. They don't look happy, like, " can we just go home so I can cuddle in my favorite spot and SLEEP?! " They don't care for all the yelling and clapping- noise. Cats are cats, no matter how much you payed for them, or how much you make off them. 😟😿👎💔

Yes, most would rather be home doing pet cat things. I'd didn't much like working for a living either. This certainly beats rodent control as a job, though - which is very much cats being cats. And on the generalization that breeders are in it for the money, there are much easier ways to make money than cat breeding, at least when done properly - think vet bills, long nights & lots of worry .

I love ALL cats but these show cats honestly are not as attractive to me as the plain old everyday house cats. I just can't get into the Persian thing, though Maine Coon cats are beautiful.

I LOVE Maine Coon cats! The Persians of today have been 'overstylized' to have those ridiculous little 'smashed-in' noses and faces which I don't find pretty. The Persians of about 30 years ago were BEAUTIFUL with their sweet, cherubic 'doll faces.' Same thing with Siamese. They used to be beautiful and elegant looking. Now they're scrawny and look so undersized and unhealthy. (I realize this is my opinion but I'm entitled to it.)
