Depends. For class judging there are usually few people present other than exhibitors so I can pick a good spot, though can guess wrong on which way a particular judge likes to point the cat, so sometimes have to make a quick move to the other side of the ring or I'll just be getting cat butt video. For finals, depends on when I arrive. They tend to attract a crowd. And getting started does usually involve a wait, so I have to decide whether it's worth waiting vs vids of other cats. If I'm early and wait - can be a great view, otherwise I can be on the periphery of the crowd and so, not so great. Of course I'll maneuver closer if I can - but I'm not one of those rude photogs that insist what they're doing is more important that what anyone else is doing so I don't insist on pushing to the front. Personal flaw, I guess.

CFA has experimented with this at their larger shows, but it's a rarity. Most cat shows are small scale, the mindset being - shows are for breeders to sorta see how their breeding programs are doing compared to others and not really a spectator event - so such things aren't exactly a priority (and due to lack of noisy crowds isn't necessary anyway). Due to the costs of large shows like this International Show, they do more to accomodate spectators in the hope of receiving enough "gate"/admission money to cover the cost of what's usually a very expensive venue to rent. And yes, due to the substantial crowd roar at these large shows, the usually rather intimate ringside discussions, as you're hearing, are pretty much impossible, certainly from 20 feet away...

I am picking up my Persian tomorrow. I have two rescues, but I always have a Persian.
@DougguoD3 жыл бұрын
I'm curious, Persians are generally very relaxed (shall we say) cats, while moggies can be very variable in temperament (huh, never knew there was an "a" in temperament). I know cats can pretty easily *learn* to get along, but curious as to your experience with this combo?
@kathleenklein42313 жыл бұрын
@@DougguoD I am lucky that my rescues are non-aggressive cats according to my vet. I have a vet that comes to my house and sometimes I give them gabapentin. They are fine with me, they sit on my lap and want to be petted. Persians in my experience also sit on my lap and want to be petted. I really don't thing "they" know that they are different. My rescue grooms my other rescue. I would feel guilty if I did not rescue a few cats and just had a Persian. My last Persian died of liver cancer and my rescue started pulling his hair out, he was so lonely.
@DougguoD3 жыл бұрын
@@kathleenklein4231 In my experience most cats can and do learn to tolerate other cats. I've never dealt with ferals though, which is a whole different thing. I have seen myself they can/do live in colonies, so given that situation, I guess they feel safer like that though the original species cat was solitary.
@kathleenklein42313 жыл бұрын
@@DougguoD Well both my rescues I have had since they were kittens, one cat family was found in a driveway they were trying to stay warm and dry. A kind hearted soul from an organization called Forgotten Cats here in Delaware, they were being fostered, So they adopted out an Orange Tabby who is definitely scared. about other people but me. Thus I use an in home vet for most things. Getting her in a carrier is a nightmare. The other is very tolerant and I got her from the SPCA when she was two months old. She gets an A for perfect behavior, never has there been one accident and I had her for 2 years.
@DougguoD3 жыл бұрын
@@kathleenklein4231 Ah, kittens are seldom a problem as they don't have particularly preconcieved (English is such a peculiar language) notions of how things should be.
@corytc50955 жыл бұрын
Im just curious, why do most show cats have these crazy long names?
@DougguoD5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the names - there is a structure to them so individual cats can be identified - different people often will use the same name, think the proverbial "Fluffy". The cat registry convention is to use the cattery name (the ID of where the cat was bred) as the first part (called the prefix). Next is an individual identifier (think person's first name). If the cat went to another cattery (which is a necessary thing to avoid inbreeding), that cattery name is added at the end of the cat's name (called the suffix). Thus names can be long - most (all?) registries limit the number of characters a name can have so one can't include everyone in their family tree or names would become to clumbersome to use.
@CFACats4 жыл бұрын
First word is the cattery that produced the cat, then comes the name of the cat, and if sold to another cattery they add their cattery name to the end.

Persian cats are very beautiful. Devon Rex is my dream because it does not shed.
@DougguoD6 жыл бұрын
Devons shed little, but they do shed some. In my experience, their coat depends to some extent on the ambient temperature - so when it gets warmer they do tend to loose some coat. On the other hand, expect to find Persian hair in your food - it gets everywhere - all the time.
@nata_009_6 жыл бұрын
@@DougguoD, I have had two Persian cats for 15 years, and since then I have pledged not to mess with long-haired breeds. One month ago, I accidentally adopted two cats, it turns out they also do shed very much. But still, they are very nice and good guys :-)

@@nata_009_ Far as I know, all cats molt (including Sphynx and their fuzz) , it's their way of replacing the hair. With some breeds it's a lot more obvious.

So i found out i cant be a cat show judge as the requirements are wildly out of reach for me.. dreams shattered. But cant i just be the one that parades them around?!
@DougguoD Жыл бұрын
It's mostly kitty owners that parade them around, but that's also mostly taking them to and from ring cages. Sometimes owners are asked to handle and talk about their cats in the ring, though that's been a rare thing from what I've seen. And yes, at CFA's big cat show, during Best of the Best, judges do walk them around (well, carry them around) so everyone can get a good look at them, but yes also, that's judges who are judging Best of the Best.
