Thanks for openfoam tuttorials. After two days to tuttorials watching, i am slowly being accustomed to openfoam.

Great video, thanks. Just a few notes for anyone trying this: 1. ansys mesh export does not keep letter capitalization in the named selections. However, openfoam requires exact naming (cap matters) 2. Ansys no longer supports designModeler. The geometry MUST be opened in SpaceClaim first. Once this is complete, change the properties in your mesh object (e.g. A2): Advanced Geometry Options>Analysis Type>2D. Otherwise, the .msh file will be interpreted as 3D.

I can still use Design Modeler in Ansys and it works.

I always assumed ParaView was strictly a post-processer (i have never correctly used it). Looks like you are adjusting boundary conditions after pre-processing in Paraview though? Thanks so much for showing these videos!
@interfluo6420

I am not adjusting the boundary conditions in paraview, but just making sure that they have been translated to openfoam correctly. All of the adjustments are still happening strictly in openfoam

New subscriber here. Can we discuss a new test of the valve in open foam but with the valve installed in the pulse detonation chamber it was designed for that has a pulsed pressure higher that atmospheric? I’ve never seen the simulation being ran in the proper format for use of the invention. It will yield very different results!

Great video! I ran the case file and it worked great :). I was wondering, could you also interpolate the results to further smooth out the simulation or do you have to run the simulation again using a smaller deltaT?
@interfluo6420
@interfluo6420 3 жыл бұрын
I think that because the simulation is viscous and transient (parabolic) the solution should have no discontinuities in time or space, so you are probably fine interpolating. If you want finer results I would recommend refining the mesh and running with smaller timesteps (to maintain the courant number between 0 to 1).

@@interfluo6420 Hey, I tried using the 'Filters -> Temporal Interpolator' tool in paraview, which worked out great and looks really cool! :) Thanks again for the tutorial and case file :D

Thanks for sharing. What is "s" file in the zero folder and how is this one applied? Thank you.

s is what is known as a passive scalar, I like to think of it as injecting dye into the flow so that you can see the path it is taking, vortices, etc... It doesn't affect the fluid flow at all but is just there for analyzing the results

Can you attach a the mesh for reverse direction. I tried out the code, but I do not have ansys to change the inlet and outlet. Or is there a way to change the inlet and outlet without re-meshing?
@samuelsisk2638
@samuelsisk2638 4 ай бұрын
For your boundary conditions, you can just switch the inlet and outlet

this video, like all of my early ones, was a tutorial and not a case study; the goal therefore was to show the minimal necessary steps to run a simulation with the goal that people could build off of that. My later videos are more in the format of case studies where I focus less on how to run the case and more on the IO/results.
