Aside from meaning "about", "3an" basically conveys the idea of separation, of separating something/somebody from something/someone else, putting some distance between them.

qareeb also has to do with time; e.g. sa2maftou7 qareeban

You can use ''min'' (''from'') in a sense ''I am from Palestine'' = ''Ana min Palestine'' too...And that is not feelings, nor results...:P
