For those who have trouble with the lining the roof textures I have a solution: Firstly, download the image overlay like he did in the video. Next, open up a new blender project, import the terrain again (Without the image overlay). Then, import the image overlay with mapbox STREETS. Now continue with the video and put the roof textures like he did (It should be very easy now with little to no work) (But watch out, my image overlay was bigger than the map that I had selected so some roof textures that are in the image overlay won't apear in the map itself, thus, it will look like you aren't putting the textures on all the roofs but be assured you are).

One of the best tutorials ever. Easy, straight to the point, and it covers EVERYTHING! Two different kinds of fog, UV Editing, Particles, cloud making, HDRs, I love it! Excellent work! One question (it may be really simple and I never figured it out): At 23:47 when you're showing this CG breakdown, how do you render different elements of your scene when it's behind another separate element? I see you're rendering the clouds by themselves, and even though it's at the foreground it is also being covered by some buildings. How did you render the clouds seperately? Again, I know you can restrict visibility in the outliner and check transparent in Film so it doesn't render the sky, but I'm trying to render elements to be blocked by whatever is in the foreground so I can composite easier.

Watching a video on Blender for the first time and I must say I'm pretty impressed with what it can do. How does Blender compare to After Effects, and how demanding are the system requirements?
@benwillms4 жыл бұрын
Blender, while it contains 2D compositing, NLE, and motion tracking tools akin to After Effects, is not very comparable to AE on a larger scale. AE is incapable of 3D modeling, sculpting, or animating 3D models without pricy third party addons. You can’t go into AE and design a complex, photoreal 3D scene. You can only composite and track 2D footage and shape layers, and work with basic 3D elements such as extruded text and angled planes. With Blender, you can do all that, and more. For a great and up-to-date demo of Blender’s abilities, check out the CGI short film “Spring” here on KZbin, which was created entirely within Blender.

to everyone who is having issues lining up the roofs in the uv editor, it is because of the way the terrain is unwrapped. if you look, you can see that the terrain UV doesn't take up the whole image. My solution was to take a screenshot of how the terrain UV is placed in the UV editor, then scale the roof UVs to line up with that area as best you can. I think this is the best way because the building objects line up well with the terrain as is, so messing with the terrain UV will just make it harder.

@@Chrisbruceharrison ah man that sucks to hear... still can't find a good solution to export GIS data into blender and then importing it into unity. It all looks shitty haha

Wonderful tutorial, but I'm having trouble following (more to due with my inexperience with Blender than anything). I'm at 11:15, but when I import the texture, all I get is a solid color. The nodes all look right, not sure what I'm missing.

I absolutely love his content, but he talks WAY too fast.

He doesn't account for the fact that his audience is not as skilled as he is. He thinks he can gloss over things but he leaves many of us confused and overwhelmed doing so.

I started with Blender Guru. Grant Abbitt is also really good and he has detailed beginer videos with excercises. I think Ducky 3D is the one who does a lot of abstract tutorials. Really useful techniques for more complex shapes even if you're not looking to make abstract renders.
