I think this is deeper than mermaids tales... for me this shows how we make expectations about the other person that we want to love, how we dream and grow feelings for that person just because we already made a story in our minds about that person... but reality soon enough wakes you up and shows you that his needs maybe are different and even incompatible with yours, and at the end he is going to choose himself and survive.

This is beautiful, it shows us two point of views. While the man thinks of the mermaid as a deadly creature that just wants to drag him to the bottom of the ocean and kill him (because obviously he can't breathe under water), the mermaid thinks of him as her true love and is unaware of the fact that he cannot breathe under water.

Not quite it just that you got the perspective wrong and intention, the quote at the end said" in the sea, a life vest can save your life". So it means the mermaid is basically wants the person to drown to death but that Dude had his life vest that save his life because he can't swim underwater. (in reality it telling you if you fall off into the ocean you could drown and a life vest could save your life, and motivates people to wear life vest when ur at sea)

Guys for those who don't have sound, I think it might be because the music they play in the first half is copyrighted. The original PSA(this is originally a PSA on the importance Life Jackets and how in the sea a Life Jacket is the only thing that can save your life), there was music to it. I think this might've had it as well, but it might have ended up getting removed due to copyright issues since I don't know if the song is made specifically for the short or not.

I think this was saying to be conscious of other people’s feelings and perspectives. Don’t expect something someone if they do not feel the same way. Like when you have a crush. If you ask them out and they reject you, dont be angry at them for just not feeling the same way.

Think they don't know about it. If some are hearing it fully then chances are it's at the end of the creator using an old version or they are using a newer version and KZbin hasn't updated their version for playback. Then it also could be it works fine but when uploading it to KZbin, KZbin converts it into one of their formats and the person that chose the KZbin format to use has issues which again could be at the creator's end or it could be on KZbin end or it could be both. I'm sure if any of us who had problems with the sound would shirk fine if we could dl it to our systems or if they have a website and it plays fine on there. But you already know this. 😏

reminds me of a version of siren myth i read a long time ago where sirens were created when a maiden dies at sea with a broken heart.....determined to seek love but can never have because they drown those they fall in love with
