I didn’t realise that they COMPLETELY replaced it but rather, thought they had only made some design changes and alterations to the already present footage of the upgraded suit he was wearing practically. I am a VFX artist. And while objectively, this movie doesn't have terrible CGI, it ain't nothing to be celebrated either. This exact formula has been used for years on many other movies, namely, Marvel movies, and this particular movie was supposed to be a cut above the rest, and yet still delivered what I and many other coworkers of mine consider a half-assed job. The attention to detail on the world building and everything was really good... but when you fail to deliver that same treatment to your moving frame CHARACTER, then you did not finish the product properly. The blame can be entirely attributed to budget constrains or last-minute changes, as many including myself, believe the addition of Tobey and Andrew were.

Sandman in this film as far as visual effects were concerned. I do see, that for creating the VFX for Sandman was challenging in both technically and creatively ways, and it was tough getting the character just right in many of the battles during No Way Home. As they weren't able to get a lot of visuals on him, but were able to get Thomas Haden Church's voice for sure. As he and Rhys Ifans (Lizard) got plenty of CGI used throughout the film's scenes. But mainly it was for Thomas Haden Church's Sandman who required a lot of it given the different forms he takes when using his powers.

Imagine this scenario, your working for one of the biggest movie companies in the world, you're a costume designer. You're working hard on making physical spider-man suits for Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, And Tobey Maguire to wear on set, countless hours and maybe even days working on the suits that will look perfect on screen, only for the CGI team to decide that they feel like completely covering that shit up with CGI, just for shits and giggles. Your hard work is nowhere to be seen in the final movie, and you wasted your life working for a movie studio that has a chronic CGI addiction.

It’s not the VFX department who’s fault it is but rather stupid producers who decide that Spider-Man needs one suit more for merchandise, Spider-Man had 5 suits in this single movie. It’s a pain for the costume department and the VFX team because as a designer not only do you have to design a suit more on time but as a VFX artist you have to replace so much and given that it’s marvel you’re under major time pressure

CG on the suit the whole time just seemed so unnecessary, on action scenes it makes sense but on non action scenes they could've made a real suit to fit the different scenes and had those talented artists spend more time on the heavy VFX scenes. VFX teams need to be treated better and use their talents more efficiently rather than splitting work all over the place and in the end having a subpar product in comparison to other works.

This instantly tells me you have no idea about the logistics of cgi in a movie production and you're just saying what somebody else with no knowledge of CGI said on the internet. Also marvel creates the most impossible things in cinemas these days. And Cgi enables them to create the impossible without any production hurdles. They are not making the Godfather here, they are making superhumans and alien planets. I challenge you to go out and shoot an action scene in NY times square, blow up some buildings, make people fall off windows. This will give you a good idea why they use that much cgi. Even Nolan can't do it without cgi. So don't just spit out words you read or heard on the internet.

@@andrewprasanna9323 heres the thing, at the time they were shooting the film, the suit with a nanotech golden bit design wasnt even made yet, they would have no time remaking another suit, and so they reslved to using cgi, they have done thing multiple times, the most famous one is on endgame, the white suits were also not design or prepared during the movie was shot, so it was completely cgi. plus, use cgi if they want to, who are you to judge.

Because typically the producers cannot make up their mind, so the final design of the suit is locked only after plate photography has started.

VFX artists being lazy is probably the worst take I've ever heard, they are being overworked and constantly being told to change things because directors or the producers can't make up their mind on what they want. Not only that but any changes made to a shot still doesn't get counted for overtime which means that Disney, Marvel, or Sony are basically abusing this to get VFX studios to do what they want. This means VFX artists are at a constant struggle of maintaining their job because these piece of shit companies keep treating these studios like some kinda factory.

I actually 100% agree with what you're saying, that was what I was trying to convey with my original comment. The higher ups were the ones I was calling lazy. They severely overwork their CGI departments with unrealistic deadlines. A good example is Avengers Endgame, working on the special effects for that film must have been pretty shit. Like they used CGI for all the suits just because they didn't feel like designing the suits before filming, which is really a shame on a number of levels. Not only would the suits have looked better if they were practical, but that would have freed up a lot of unnecessary work for the CGI guys. Big companies are treating their workers like shit, which makes the final product and (more importantly) the mental health of the workers suffer severely from it.
