Christian monks (Catholic and Orthodox) work most of their life to sustain their monastery. Farming, cooking, distilling, handiwork and the like. The rest of the time is usually spent in mass and prayer. They even spend the time eating listening to theology. It's kinda amazing that in history no monk order wanted to defend themselves. Completely different to buddhist monks. So western monks have spiritual/physical balance too, but it's completely developed out of necessity (although they are taught to love their work). I don't think there's many people that are made for these kind of lifestyles - western or eastern. Be careful what you wish for

I like the focus on both body and mind as well as spirit. Too often we get distracted and lose sight of what makes life worth living. Our health. Instead people compensate for the lack of balance by taking drugs or abusing alcohol as well as drinking coffee just to stay awake. Chronic sleep deprivation is a real issue. Sadly, that lifestyle has become the norm in many places with people who question that destructive lifestyle being considered weird. I personally have decided to aim for balance and health.
@danielt.43305 жыл бұрын
Consciousness is indeed being raised. More people are realizing that, if you have your health, you have everything, but if you don't have it, you have nothing. This is because you literally need your health in order to enjoy anything, from working to watching a movie. Also, sleep deprivation is indeed overlooked by many people who are not aware that you need sleep just as much, if not more, than you need food. You literally need 8-10 hours every night, and some people think that 4-6 is okay. They are very ignorant. As science gets better, and more research is done, more people will slowly realize how important taking care of our bodies is. Keep being positive! Thanks for spreading a good message, bro.

While The home Shaolin Monastery in SongShan is now well known for its warrior monks and their legends, it is also the 祖庭 original court of “Chan Zong 禅宗”, the Zen philosophy that spread throughout China then East and Southeast Asia, and later to the West by Japanese, and some would argue this aspect of Shaolin is far more important than its kongfu aspect.

There is a legendary video.. I can't find it any more. Of a man that would attack just ONCE.. with such force that dust and dirt would fly off his clothing and kick up from the ground. I think what is being portrayed here in this video is linked to that. Creating inner strength to increase your power. It's a kung fu style that has VERY few strikes but require a lot of power. I respect how they train the children.. the tenacity in the eyes of his mentor.. That child will grow to be stronger than him.
@maxgoldfield77903 жыл бұрын
That's a stunt. Some martial artists will treat their clothes with starch, or apply dust or chalk to them before a performance, in order to create the impression of extra "power". If you want to measure someone's power, have them hit something, like a heavy bag, or someone competent fighting back. Everything else is just gimmicks and stagecraft.

In China, Kungfu is the title of martial arts. There are many types and schools of martial arts (or Kungfu), and not all Kungfu is Shaolin Kungfu. Just because some Shaolin monks insisted on martial arts practice as a practice course, people all over the world did not see their Buddhist practice and physical and mental practice. They misunderstood the Shaolin monks and Buddhism, and misunderstood the philosophical connotation of Chinese Kung Fu.

How're people gonna comment shaolin monks got no fight science when they literally spar @ 36:30 + and practice kickboxing + shadowboxing? The point of Kung Fu is to keep an open mind and evolve through losing until you win. If Kung Fu isn't effective, then it isn't Kung Fu. Taolu is not the end all be all of kung fu; it is the sanda and the training we go through in order to train how to fight. Literally use your brains people.
@NazguL25 жыл бұрын
Spar? it was choreographic. In the end kung fu is for the movies or for the mysticism, not for mma or something. Maybe some true warriors can use sanda or wushu in real fight, but is not for everyone

"in a real fight.." aah, americans.. good dog. like in a ring, where you see it, when you definately know, it is a real fight. its in a ring, that is like a certificate of authenticity. keep watching that shit you know already holmes. one fun thing with americans is switch if its real or not and watch their eyes blur. no authorisation.. oh wait problem solving is used to address conflict. "fight" is for your trained doggy who you don't want doing any messy thinking of "is this fight or not". you train for fight not problem solve, maybe you get extra bone in you dish tonight honey butt.

@@Insularish i agree, combat sports impose the condition of trading blows. i see them more as a socio-psychological device, eg. 'boxing' puts ideas in a box about what an altercation is and how to resolve it. western thought is founded in certainty, knowledge, referential authority. my experience of eastern thought, in the four chinese classics, buddhism and jainism, seems more founded in consideration. there is no overlap. where there is certainty, consideration is absent. i find one of these modes to be more functional than the other, personally and socially ;) there are so many things in life to do apart from hit people. and so many ways to find resolution. i've always felt that, the ability to recognise this, belies a simple and fundamental superiority. often. :)
@vandamme63795 жыл бұрын
JY wong You’re both idiots. I’d rather train in trading blows than in some bullshit “Dangerous techniques” for the street. The truth is, MMA is training you to fight anywhere, Kung fu is just exercise. I do both so I should know the difference. I don’t use mystical crap in a fight, I use MMA.

I FULLY BELIEVE THAT SHAOLIN KUNGFU IS THE BEST
@shaolinabbott91613 жыл бұрын
Shaolin is just a collection of gimmicks and circus tricks. The only reason some of the monks can 'fight' is because they have Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) training. If you want real Chinese fighting martial arts then Sanda and Shuai Jiao (traditional Chinese and Mongolian wrestling) are your only ports of call. And frankly dude, if it wasn't for the possible cross-training in Sanda, you could probably smash most of these "monks" (i.e. performers).

@shaolinabbott91613 жыл бұрын
@@SuperhumanUnchained It's irrelevant what you think. You're entitled to your own opinion, but you aren't entitled to your own facts. The reality is, like it or not, that the Shaolin monks cannot fight unless they have cross-trained in a more "real" or "hands-on" style, like Sanda or Shuai Jiao. The rest is just gimmicks to impress those with poor critical thinking skills.
@SuperhumanUnchained3 жыл бұрын
@@shaolinabbott9161 i believe if you have a Monk that was in Shaolin from the age of 5 until age 30 and he learned all 72 technique's Hard and soft style, along with Qing na, along with the hard and soft Qigong, the iron fist, the IRONBODY, the iron legs the ironhead, the 5 styles monkey crane, leopard, dragon, tiger, these are all the basics before fighting sanda or xanda which means Chinese kickboxing if you get a Monk like that i don't think you and i together can't beat him, because they trained there whole life and they are PERFECTLY CONDITIONED AND TRAINED, they don't even want to be known and they don't want glory, everyone thinks that BRUCE LEE was the greatest martial artist ever, we can't take that away from him, because he trained hard, but these guys trained harder than Bruce Lee the whole day all day long, i am entitled to my own opinion, and you to, but the same guys you are saying you think they can fight only because of Xanda your wrong and if you should challenge them, they will make you look like unto a joke, that's my opinion
@shaolinabbott91613 жыл бұрын
@@SuperhumanUnchained That's a lot of mythology and mysticism. Frankly, if those monks were that good, they would have proved it in competition by now. You can't expect anyone to believe that they have this overwhelming, demigod-like power, but that they somehow can't win a combat sport competition without killing their opponent. That's just fantasy. Besides - Sanda competitors get more fighting ability with less training. If it takes you 25 years to get someone to a good competition-level, then your style/school/training method is a failure. Modern kickboxers, muay thai fighters, wrestlers, judoka, MMA fighters etc do not take anywhere near that long. Respectfully, Shaolin teaches a lot of stuff that is superfluous to fighting. And Bruce was a good martial artist (sort of), and an actor. He wasn't a particularly good fighter. Kimbo Slice did better in street fights, and we have footage of that. And even Kimbo struggled with the transition to MMA. Bruce didn't even have that much.

Out of all the teachings one may learn here during life is that martial arts is by far the most beneficial, for it can be applied to every other aspect naturally and effortlessly. Martial arts is the fastest and most efficient way for one to learn their bodies capabilities and limitations therefore being able to become physically fit, mentally sound and spiritually balanced allowing them to express physical freedom. Which is key for one to start living up to the pleasure, potential and responsibility of femininity and masculinity at this level of body awareness one naturally actually has a self-control, discipline, loyalty, devotion, appreciation, respect, confidence and joyful determination to validate, confirm and signify that the are being true towards love honor and the creation of life. If one makes a conscious choice to live in accordance to validating love to the degree I mentioned it allows the subconscious to systematically coincide with the soul spirit mother Earth and all the various different forms of life that live within this world in the most efficient way that is humanly possible. Thus yielding the best spiritual kickback for one's efforts accomplishments experiences. Anything less is feebleminded physically inadequate and submissive subservient which it doesn't get any worse than that living and dying in that mannerism. For when one lives and dies having neglected the physical freedom they have had available all throughout their life a results in them being recognized internally and externally for all eternity throughout existence as spiritually sexually suppressed. Case closed mercy forgiveness spiritual welfare are not changing those facts protecting carrying compensating any wining souls or spirits that are freely connected to a life that does not do its best to improve upon and maintain the quality of it. You might want to take that point to Heart considering if life is not free why the hell would death be any cheaper it's not. So don't miss the deadline on becoming physically fit mentally sound spiritually balanced being able to express physical freedom. Obviously high sources of nutrition will greatly increase one's physical freedom + formal education maybe some hands-on experience with the most extreme situations nursing homes daycare centers critical care units birthing centers. Group homes, jails, prisons, Army,, Navy Marine core, special forces, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, sports and fitness facilities. Whether you believe are not as secondary to the fact that each and every moment is spiritually accounted for. Obviously if you believe in a higher power form of God goddest then you would want to serve him the best life possible. The sad truth is thanks to a diminished quality of life from coast-to-coast globally people have been living dying for the last hundred 50 years or so to a diminished quality of life resulting in the worst spiritual kickback that has ever been manifested throughout the history of mankind. This diminished quality of life is primarily do to dirty low-paying jobs that come from outdated power sources inferior materials poisonous toxic substances pesticides chemicals that never change their killing composition which means whether it is a solid liquid burnt off into our airways atmosphere as a vapor is always going to be poisonous debilitating deadly to the body. At the same time polluting corrupting devastating to mother Earth and all the various different forms of life that live within this world. There is no profit to be made in the demise of the planet even far worse is the spiritual kickback that is manifested from inhaling petrified death 24 seven drinking using contaminated water using wearing the materials that are made cheap and inferior something like corrosive to the body that's what happens when you conduct business to the lowest standards of quality which is primarily America China India. In layman's terms You cannot promote life by doing business with material, resources and substances that have been scientifically classified religiously verified as petrified death or worse which all stem from coal, oil, gas and the chemical industry. It's not all gloom and doom. For we have the man/woman power to offset maybe even fully compensate all the damage that has been caused from dirty low-paying jobs. And that is with clean high paying jobs from coast-to-coast that improve upon and maintain the quality of our air water foods landscapes working living environment every day home products habitat ecosystem plus the lifestyle I mentioned. The goal is to live in a manner that allows each persons generation to naturally and gradually become stronger smarter healthier happier better off physically mentally financially possibly spiritually then the previous generation. Sad to say even undergoes best case scenario circumstances there is still going to be a percentage of people who freely live and die having only used the smallest percentage of a fraction of the true potential of the were first born with. Now I wish and pray for my soul and spirit to be held spiritually accountable to the statements I proclaim to the way of living personally and professionally. I guarantee you never see hear another body man/ woman in power persons of legal religious authority leaders ever freely validate the statements they proclaim with that level of certainty. One reason they don't naturally instinctively have the best interest of the majority of the population's needs at Heart another reason could be they come from a breed of cowards or have a lifestyle that suggests, confirms and validates them as being absent-minded frail body. Is quite possible to be a combination of those two worst-case scenarios. For one is genetic hereditary and the other is a generic learned behavior. Either way it is physically mentally spiritually useless to freely live and die in such a low-quality manner. Especially if that ignorance, stupidity, weakness and desperation stems from being soft, lazy, out of shape, over fed, undernourished, overworked and underpaid with the dirty low-paying job. S.R.F

at 29:14... a concept of true Shaolin training ,foreign to many other martial arts that believe extending is the way to power... ELBOW BENT SHOULDER DROPPED... true power is transferred more when relaxed and when not fully extended as when you extend too far you lose power fighting your own body... snap it bring it back just as fast for power and also to avoid letting others grab your arm... he literally had to beat the concept in. At Shaolin in the states we just drill it into your head by explaining the concept and the reasons why, once you understand the why, you consciously try to mold yourself to do it right.

A splendid expose of the way of life, training & spiritual instruction which ascends unto the higher essence of physical being. Just to spend one year under these honorable men's tutelage would be a gift from the divine powers above. The only problem for me if I was fortunate for such an opportunity would be the prospects of having to leave. God Bless Shaolin.
