I'm really looking forward to learning more about Dr. Eisenbud. Not sure how widely known he is, but there was this german surgeon Johann Eisenbarth (or Eysenbart, both are correct as far as I know) in the 1770s. He supposedly was quite an accomplished doctor and used some pretty good techniques. However today he is mostly used as a shorthand for being pompous and an overall quack, at least where I'm from. There is a drinkingsong we learned at shool (as you should im Bavaria) that goes along the lines of: I'm Dr. Eisenbarth I'm treating my patients in my own ways I can make the blind walk and the lame see During the song there are a lot of other examples of him using questionable methods. I'm stoked to find out if Dr.Eisenbud has similar reputation or "questionable" methods! Ilove this series so much!

This is all really exciting, but I am a bit of a D&D noob. I have a question regarding what transpired in the last episode. Because it may be a bit of a spoiler if you have not seen episode 2 yet, I'll add a few blank lines... Ritha Janis received damage while incapacitated, and therefore, failed a death saving throw. Why is she still alive? What did I miss? Please, someone explain. I pledge a $20 donation to the fundraiser for an explanation.
@RenegadeScienceTeacher5 ай бұрын
The short answer is that you have to fail 3 death saving throws to actually die, similarly to how you have to pass 3 to become "stable". There are a few other rules that may go into it, depending on the situation, but that's the most important thing here.

I dont think the spell "as you were" is supposed to confer life back back to a dead creature ala "speak with dead" its just supposed to make them LOOK not dead. So they would appear to be asleep but would be unable to speak or be woken etc because theyre still dead. Regardless i think treating it as speak with dead for this one occastion is fine.
@diebosseyyy49045 ай бұрын
Im so confused. When Gwen read the bread it told her nothing, but to Circe it reads kind of weapon-y? Thing is, it probably shouldn't read as a weapon to either of them, since they are reading just this very piece of bread specifically, and not the bread in general. So if it was never given to anyone with the intention of doing harm, it would probably not qualify as a weapon? Very confusing also because the father guy seems like he is innocent, so like, who is doing this? Anyway, good cliffhanger I guess. Will Ginny Di be back next episode?
@Mirl-ev5yr5 ай бұрын
I was wondering about that too - but I'm really not sure: is it THE SAME piece of bread? I was thinking that there are different sources of bread around town and that Gwen and Circe tested different ones? Perhaps one is tainted, the other one isn't? But I'm also not so sure about the father. After all, we've lost one member already after she went with him.
@diebosseyyy49045 ай бұрын
@@Mirl-ev5yr I think it's the same. Gwen had a loaf of bread, and pulled off a part of it to feed the crows. The crows did not eat it, so it ends up being the very same piece that Amber finds (and also doesn't eat) and Circe picks up. I guess the difference could be that now after Gwen tried to feed it to the crows, it is more of a weapon, because she was already suspecting that it was harmful. But really I'm just probably overthinking this. Gwen probably didn't find out the weapon thing because she was not specifically looking for it, but Circe was. It's just confusing to me because as a player, I would have never even considered doing the same thing another character has already done (that wasn't a fail) and expecting something different.
@Mirl-ev5yr5 ай бұрын
@diebosseyyy4904 good theory, that it wasn't a weapon until it was presented to the birds, yet the father did give it to Gwen first, meant for consumption. Even if one presumes the father doesn't know the bread is harmful, Gwen didn't give it to the birds with bad intentions either. Although I thought part of the spell was, that one can not ask specifics, it might show different things to different people? Perhaps now it is me overthinking things. Nevertheless might I add: Eloise is the only character I can think of, who supposedly ate some of this bread at breakfast before the fight. And than was "sent to the fold" by the father later? Doesn't that imply she's not here anymore? Or did I get that one wrong? Maybe it's just lingering paranoia from our last campaign. 😅
@diebosseyyy49045 ай бұрын
@@Mirl-ev5yr Azad I think also spent the night at the church and had breakfast there in the morning? Also, he was with them when the weird rebirth thing was happening. I guess either both Azad and the father are evil, or neither. With Eloise I interpreted the whole thing more like Ginny Di not having time for this recording session, so they invented an in-universe explanation why she's gone, and that's that she just wandered off, which is then also why no player character is concerned or looking for her, because they all know it's just because Ginny isn't available, and Eloise will reappear when Ginny returns. But I'm not sure about that at all. Like, maybe Ginny doesn't have time for this campaign at all anymore, so they killed her character off. Maybe Eloise died in the sketchy part of town, and we will later find her body. Or maybe she did die in the rebirth thing, and Azad and the father are both covering it up. Or maybe the rebirth thing makes you an evil fanatic, so maybe she's still around but on the bad side now. So that's why I wanted to know if Ginny will be back. But mostly because I'm really only here for her so I really hope she returns. She made for such fun roleplay, too! (Edit: outfit changes suggest that two episodes make up one recording session, so Ginny will be gone for the next episode for sure, but I guess I'll find out if she is back in episode 5? Also, do we think this is all prerecorded and the whole campaign is completely done irl? Ginny mentioned it in a few videos as just a sidenote, and I think it was in past tense.)
@Cavatica5 ай бұрын
the difference is that Gwen wasn't looking for anything SPECIFIC when she analyzed the bread, whereas Kirke (hi, that's me!) was specifically looking to see if it had ever been used to do violence, where "violence" in her mind means "any act intended to cause harm." and alas, Ginny Di was just our special guest for the first two episodes!
