I was going to let it slide but when you got to Santa Fe, I had to say something. Ok. It's not Santa Fee, it's Santa FAY. It's not adob, it's ADOBAY. It's not Laus Cruces, it's LOS (like lost) Cruces. It's not Tae-ohs, it's TAH-OES. Im sure there will be more. In Spanish, there are set rules for vowels, not like English, where "a" can have 6 sounds. A ALWAYS sounds like "ah" E ALWAYS sounds like "A" I sounds like "E" O sounds like "O" U sounds like "Oo" J sounds like "Y" G sounds like "W" Ll sounds like "Y" Ñ sounds like "Ny" These are set rules. I hope this helps.

Taos: Median Home Value $527,000, Median Household Income $49,000. If Mortgage should be no more than 28% of annal income. 20% down = $105,000 leaving a balance of 421,600 to pay off over 30 years. Principle alone would be $2,596 per mo. or $31,152 per year. 28% of 49,000 = $13,720. So, the median monthly mortgage for a home 228% greater than the median household income, yikes. And the narrator cheerfully states the figures as though nothing is wr0ng. How can beatniks, starving artists & hippies afford to hang out there?
@eoleol4750
@eoleol4750 Жыл бұрын
First I want to say I like how you break down the numbers. I'm in my '50s and I wish I had understood mortgages and buying houses in my twenties. I lived in Florida for a time. It has three native NFL teams, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville. There are probably more Patriots, Giants, Jets, flags flying than the native teams. I met a guy that sold his Manhattan apartment, paid cash for a large Florida home and took a low paying environmental job. So we know those high home values are wealthy, maybe retired, no true income reporting people. For me part of buying a home, I like the idea of 20% down and paying it off in 15 years.(Dave Ramsey). And I like the information that I learned a couple of years ago; a house should be about 4 times your annual income, period. Of course, there are other factors to consider.
@DoloresJNurss
@DoloresJNurss Жыл бұрын
Beatniks, starving artists and hippies don't own their own homes. They rent. Often they share rent with roommates. Eventually their presence makes a place fashionable, the money-people move in, and the rents go up, driving them out. Then the money people wonder why the place has lost its character and look for the next place to ruin.

Are the locals friendly to outsiders moving in? Currently planning a move to New Mexico and trying to weigh out all of our options. We absolutely HATE our home state of Oklahoma and are looking to relocate 3 generations of our family, but want to be close enough to get back to see our other family here from time to time. We've had 3 recent trips to NM (and another upcoming next month) and have visited almost every part of the state...loved Roswell and nearby Ruidoso! Also wondering if you have any input on the summer heat in Roswell (we come from OK, so are fairly accustomed to our heat here, but not the dry heat there...and when we visited Roswell specifically it was in Nov)??? I appreciate any insight you can give me.
@mustanggirlll
@mustanggirlll Жыл бұрын
@@Sylvie1710 everyone is very friendly. To live here is affordable. We have the big stores and good local markets. There’s big chain restaurants and local restaurants. There’s tons to do if you’re active and more of a nature type person. Nightlife is not too much here since it’s a small town but you do have the local bars. The heat in summer is actually pretty dry. It can get too hot. I’m not sure how Oklahoma heat is but New Mexico heat is very hot and dry. The nice side of Roswell is near downtown the sketchy part is more in the outskirts of Roswell but even then is not too bad, you maybe see 1 or two homeless here and there but it’s not bad. Crime isn’t bad either I’ve been able to walk alone and so far I’ve been good. I think you’ll really like it. I e also been to Ruidoso I’ve never lived there but I can tell you it’s absolutely gorgeous but that’s about all I know about Ruidoso.

Thank you for your input. We absolutely love New Mexico and are thrilled to finally be taking steps to make our dream a reality! We didn't stay too long in Roswell when we visited, and basically just did all the touristy things...but it was a lot of fun. We are certainly used to an oppressive summer heat, but here in OK it's more of a humid type of heat (which is awful). I appreciate you taking the time to reply back to me!

Out of the 8 cities in this video the average person is only going to find full time work in 3 of them. Carlsbad is known for 'Potash' mining along with crude oil and fracing water. Farmington is in the center of the San Juan natural gas basin and with companies like Haliburton energy, Fina and Chevron controlling the Basin and keeping wages low for the average Rig worker or Truck driver Your going to be working 6 days a week on average just to make it. And Las Cruces with it's Subdivision growth primarily aimed at out of state retiree's is already struggling due to rising inflation and soaring home interest rates. New Mexico is not known as the 'Land of Entrapment' for nothing the other 5 cities listed in this video will primarily offer jobs aimed in the service industry and be on a part time basis with little to no benefits as they have no real job market along with poor demographics. Truly if Your considering relocating to the Southwest and are of a working age I.E. not retired or not collecting a pension or financially secure, then Colorado or Arizona may offer substantially better employment opportunities for a long term sustainability.

It's funny that they rarely mention the weather of high altitude cities. Albuquerque gets pretty hot, but it's still usually 15-20 degrees cooler than Phoenix, because it's at about 6000ft elevation. But it's still very dry, which makes it more comfortable in summer than most other places in the country. Every place in Texas is blisteringly hot, and also horribly humid, like the rest of the South. Most other desert cities in the SW are just way too hot.

@anitamcginnis8028

In Santa Fe, It's Mostly sprawl and car dependency. Over developed sprawl, congestion, and a danger to bikers and pedestrians. They tried to make bike lanes available as they were trying to make Santa Fe into a little San Francisco. And although there are bike paths around the city, mostly for the young, strong and prosperous. If you want to walk in the city, watch out for dogs, cars, or to be accosted by panhandlers or mentally ill. If you are wealthy or just here for the holiday entertainment, you'll have a pleasant time. Otherwise, bring your money.

Not true of most of NM. Temperature varies with altitude. Albuquerque is above a mile high; Santa Fe is around 7000'. I live comfortably year-round just outside of Santa Fe without air conditioning. The lowest point in the state is around 2800' above sea level. I think you're lumping NM with other place in the Southwest: Phoenix is just over 1000' feet above sea level, and regularly exceeds 100 F. in the summer.

Albuquerque is also known for it's high crime rate. I love New Mexico. I'm an Arizona native and 80 years old. I have worked, traveled and vacationed for decades in New Mexico. I know the place well and have no illusions or fantasies. It's a poor state and their education level is near the bottom of the country's list. There are well over a dozen Indian dialects spoken there and schools outside the two major cities (Albuquerque and Las Cruces) are spread out rurally and have little financial support. The University of New Mexico (go Lobo's) has campuses In Albuquerque, Socorro and Santa Fe. Geological engineering is one of their main curriculums. Police & Fire salaries are pitiful but after 20 years you can retire at full pay. Vehicle registration is golden. Pay by the vehicle's weight, not the value. That, and no other reason could make me move there. Arizona's vehicle license fees are outrageous.

I moved to this dump of a state about a year ago. Let me first say if you are Caucasian, this is NOT the state for you - the discrimination is overwhelming!!! If you have any kind of illness, no matter what it is - be prepared to wait about 8 months to a year for a doctor's appointment and when you do finally get in to see a doctor 90% of them are dumb as a box of rocks (guess they can't find a job in any other state), the suicide rate if off the chart. No doubt - you can't - seriously - cant get an appointment to see a therapist and again if you are "lucky" enough to find one they are so ignorant and unprofessional. Housing here sucks!!! One management company (MEB) is the worse - I won't even go into detail what they do. So if you even have any ideas of moving here PLEASE thing twice!!! This place sucks. Run - don't walk to another state!!!

As a "Caucasian" aka white guy who was raised in Santa Fe before the California invasion, you are clearly overly sensitive. There are some people in all groups who are racist or discriminatory and if you want to dwell on it, that's a personal problem. Native, Hispanic and White, we have a history of actually not only getting along but doing quite well with each other. Healthcare? Yes, it could be much better. Blame that on our legislature. The laws regarding malpractice have and continue to chase Doctors away, but I've never waited more than 2 weeks for an appointment and urgent care centers abound. You are correct that we lack adequate mental health professionals. Housing? Not sure what your talking about here, except gentrification: The influx from California, Texas and the east coast have chased many locals (including myself) out of where we were raised due to price and taxes. "This place sucks"... hope the door didn't hit you in the arse...

I've heard the best is above Tucumcari, or pray for the state, then PRAY on your land , give it back to God, alot of this is native American Indian burial ground and so breaking curse may be needed to be done.

The AI voice and mispronounciations take away from the believability of this video but most of it is on point. However, Santa Fe should be #1 - not Albuquerque. ABQ is ok just don't be there after dark.

we lived in Rio Rancho, far northwest part of Rio Rancho. I was 20 minutes from Jemez, 40 minutes from Santa Fe, 30 minutes to downtown ABQ. Love my New Mexico years. Sadly the democrat government works hard to destroy the state...but hey...that is nationwide... I would move back...
