Some "interesting" comments Chad made about the movie car, specifically the part about it having a 427 and four wheel discs. I saw Bullitt when it first came out and have read numerous articles about the cars and what mods were done. The first such article was years ago in Car Life Magazine and appeared to be quite authoritative. The engine was, according to CL, a stock 390 and significantly slower than the 440-equipped Charger. The Mustang had Koni shocks and underbody skid plates and that was about it. No where was there any mention of rear disc brakes.
@sacooper8028 жыл бұрын
at 1:08 chad specifically says the bullitt mustang had two front disc and two rear drum brakes? never said all fours corners had disc brakes? but i feel he is incorrect by stating it had a 427, but the fact are two cars purchased for the movie both were Highland Green fastbacks sporting GT packages and 390/4V motors. the one car was heavily welded and prepared for jumping and is long since gone, the other car is on its third owner and in 1977 Steve McQueen tried to buy it back but current owner refused.

@patrickwayne37014 жыл бұрын
@@ldnwholesale8552 Only Sean K. could say for sure if the engine was modified. (Bore x Stroke), as he rebuilt it for it's coming out tour. Keep in mind, the car that Sean's family has owned since '74, is only one of two (arguably three), that were maintained for filming by the production company during the time the film was shot. The rumors of there having been 3 of them came directly from the car wrangler who worked on the movie. The known second car, the one you see crush its driver's front fender, in the chase scene, was allegedly found parted out as a shell in Mexico, and reportedly that one has been fully restored with similar but not original parts. Very possibly the car Chad said his Dad had fitted with a 427 could've been the Mexico car, since the 427 would've been major magnetic to anyone who knows their Ford parts. But, obviously, only the people who were there can say. And time is stealing from us all, as we speak. After seeing the one tracked and proven real car sell for 3 million 400 thousand dollars this past week, it makes a guy wonder if the stunt guys who were there when the filming was done are still alive to talk about whether there was actually three cars on set or not. Because if there was,,,, well,,, there could be one HELLUVA barn find still out there somewhere.

You are correct. Stunt driver Bill Hickman had to slow down the Charger so the Mustang could keep up. The Charger was equipped with a 440 magnum,and the Mustang with a 390. The Charger had nearly a 100 HP advantage. The 427 was available in 1968,but limited to Shelby Cobra models and select few Mercury Cougars
@muskokamike1277 жыл бұрын
I can't say who is "correct" but just because the car CAME with a 390, doesn't mean it was shot with one. it isn't that far of a stretch to send the car to a shop and drop a 427 into it....specially back then, probably take you an hour at most lol (compared to these days). Back then, you hooked up the tranny, shift linkage, fuel line to the mechanical fuel pump, throttle linkage, wire to the starter, wire to the coil, exhaust, upper and lower rad hoses, and you were done.....if it had power steering the pump would just be moved aside and put on the new engine with 2 bolts..... If it was a 4 speed, hell you wouldn't even disconnect the clutch cable, the bell housing would bolt right on..... I remember swapping out a 318 in my plymouth satellite, I think it took us 45 mins. to pull the old one and install the new one...(I say new, meaning a different one)
