First of all it's not that obvious if they haven't watched the whole show. They clearly saw him fight and go pretty much even. Animes do a lot of 'he's the strongest' and then up the power scaling as the show goes on so when you hear smth like this over and over again it loses its weight. Secondly I don't remember the title of Kenpachi having the most wins and kills. If you have 1000 wins and 1 million kills as Kenpachi and someone comes and kills you that someone will be the new Kenpachi with just a couple of kills maybe. Also Kenpachi is not the strongest shinigami.
