Chadar Trek: Trekking the Frozen Zanskar River in Ladakh

The Chadar Trek is a winter trek over the frozen Zanskar River in Ladakh, India.
I joined an organised group trek in January 2023 with an Indian company specialised in treks in the Himalayas. The trip was eight days total of which the first three days were spend in Leh to acclimatise to the elevation, to get a medical test, and to arrange insurance for the days of the trek (the latter two both compulsary for anyone joining a Chadar Trek). On the fourth day we set out to the river and the following three days we spend trekking and camping on the river. On day eight we returned to Leh where we stayed one night in a hotel arranged by the organisation before catching a flight from Leh back to Delhi.
The camping equipment was all arranged and carried by porters hired by the company. For all days out on the river the food was included and prepared by the porters, and was extremely good and filling.
