This is the perfect example of how The Gracie's would, insist on a a very specific rule set which favored them, and also if ever handed a decision for a draw or loss the y would throw a huge fit and threaten the entire organization. Then they would attempt to rewrite history and claim that there was never a loss. It also shows history repeating itself because it was just like the fight where Helio lost to Kimura but refused to accept the decision because he never tapped. The best Judokas were always a tough match for the Gracies.

The fact that Gracie didn't wear a gi top in their match shows how cowardly and dishonorable the Gracies are. They monopolized a style that they were given from judo and tried to take full credit for it.

Yoshida's judo crashed Royce Gracie's Jiu Jitsu. That is why on the rematch Royce did not use a gi and changed the rules to admit punches and kicks. He knew Yoshida's judo would destroy his jiu jitsu for the second time.

The second fight was MMA. I remember watching both live. The second fight Yoshida seemed to have been worn mentally before the fight even began. May be it was because of his previous match or may be it was because he felt intimidated. (You had Ryan challenging him too.) But Yoshida simply did not look the same in the 2nd match. The Gracies used a similar playbook for Royce's rematch with Sakuraba..(my opinion) but Sak CLEARLY won (again), but it was given to Royce.

His level of aggression and strength seemed to have improved by some degree in the second bout. Ryan Gracie, another juicer was like a rabid dog each time he fought; extremely aggressive. Contrast those guys with the cool and humble Yoshida

I watched the rematch, I can say that the first nutkick can suck all ur energy, because I got a nutkick once and I was tired and couldn't continue the randori for about 15mins, Royce didn't won it ended in a draw, heck he didn't use any of his BJJ he was just throwing useless punches

I believe that the first match, which Yoshida clearly won, was changed into a NC (No Contest), because the Gracies threatened to completely pull out of PRIDE otherwise. It is exactly that type of behavior that makes judokas despise the Gracies and their dishonesty. It's actually a shame, since there is a huge community of BJJ:ers that are very humble, honest and praiseworthy for their skills. Most are a bit narrow minded when the issue of Judo comes up, though.

@@MrMrbrianbechtel i never saw this angle. from the other side, you can see royce's hand going limp, wich is why the referee may have rushed to the conlution that he was being choked out and didnt have much time to stop the fight. if royce just relaxed to save energy, wich may have been the case, he TKO'd himself because he made the referee think he was going out. and in that take i believe i can see yoshidas hand on royce's neck, but that kind of chokehold doesnt match the effect, i believe. i agree that it was an early stoppage, but understandable one.

This is the history of the Geacie family. He lost and they were mad. If you read ul on their history in Brasil you'll understand just how bad they were. The Japanese are the best period. Also, what kind of Martial Art is it that has no takedowns or striking. They refuse to include the Judo throws because they won't be able to say the Gracie's invented BJJ. This is ghe reason they refuse to teach the real history of grappling and JU JITSU

All referee must know that In any fight where there is a Gracie fighting, the referee must let his opponent break his arm or strangle him until he passes out completely. It is the only way to prevent the Gracies from continuing to lie by saying that they would win the fight when it is obvious that they lost.

Yeah, on balance, I think Yoshida took on much tougher guys than Royce, and when he was at the top of his game, he had the ability to defeat anyone despite not having much a striking game. Satoshi Ishii ( Olympic champ in Beijing ) has also been competing in MMA for some years.

In my opinion its Judo, but only when Newaza is taught correctly and not just the basics needed for modern sports judo, traditional judo is a complete art and you will find most bjj in there if you look for it.

It would have to be categorised to be tested properly. But personally I don't like comparing arts, I'm more driven to look at each part of my own game and find what best would improve that for where it has gaps, my ground game wasn't great until I trained some bjj, and then improved it further with judo, but As for which is better, it all depends on what exactly fits you best and what you take from each, either will improve you and make you a more rounded martial artist, just my humble view on it

Your logic is incredibly stupid. If other pure arts were losing to BJJ during the late 80s/early 90s then that makes them less than nothing and absolute trash arts. The pure strikers at that time couldn't KO against pure grapplers, and wrestling to takedown these days gets harder the higher the tier mma match and eventually championship fights; the vast majority of wrestlers in the UFC are gravitating towards kickboxing approach to fighting and only use wrestling to sprawl. So according to you, striking and wrestling aren't real martial art skills since they can be nullified when the meta changes. Using Maia and Souza as your examples of BJJ not being a real martial art is beyond stupid since they didn't grow up wrestling at a young age(since literally any martial artist regardless of style who never wrestled will struggle) but they still do well in the top ten although they struggle the closer they reach to the championships. Being unable to become a champion doesn't make the art less of a martial art, you imbecile. Karo Parisyan struggled to throw and takedown against better strikers and other stylists who had decent takedown defenses. By your logic, since Judo doesn't have striking and wrestling style takedowns since it's an art that heavily focuses on upper body throws, then Judo barely qualifies to be a real martial art.

Maia's only recent losses were against 3 division 1 wrestlers and another bjj champ. Bjj does WAY better than karate or bs dojo arts. Maia and Souza are older and STILL smashed people. At 39 Maia was on a 7 fight win streak. Jacare had an 8 fight win streak in his mid 30's. Did you watch UFC 1???

Look the grappling match 2003(adcc) between Matt Lidland(USA frestyle wrestling champion, second place Olympian games in greco-roman) and Ronaldo Souza. Look the fight between Murilo Bustamante and Dan Henderson. Look the fight between Royce Gracie (78 kg) and Remco Pardoel(105 kg, Nederland judo champion). In all fights bjj players were better in takedowns.

Rules of a contest. 1. tapping 2. referee stoppage. 3. the corner can throw in the towel I pray to God that we can have a time machine. Go back in time and have Kimura vs. Helio and Hidehiko vs. Royce to be a duel to the DEATH matches. Royce vs. Matt Hughes. Royce did not tap either. "I did not tap is not a thing." The referee can stop a fight. Can Matt Hughes protest that "He did not tap, and keep beating Royce to DEATH?" until his corner throws in the towel?

Unfortunately was a really bad referee call and Pride FC analysed the footage and made the fight NC, removing Yoshida's victory. Yoshida did not showed sportsmanship in the first fight acting like the Ezekiel choke really worked. Royce made the pay back removing the gi in the second fight. Seems fair.

To me it seems he tried to slide his right hand in and after it he went limp, they reviewed rhr footage afterwards, the second fight, to him it became personal but still we should always fight fair, even Helio said that in one of his interviews.

@@Chadi , Royce Gracie did not went limp he was consciousness and aware, you can see clearly he standing up right after. That is why it was a bad call and the Yoshida victory got NC by the Pride. We cannot blame Royce after Yoshida's trickery, and the second fight was in Vale-Tudo rules after all (they did not have the same costume etiquette of their previous match).

Get real! From any angle you watch, he is clearly about to pass out. From the angle in this video, it even looks like he is tapping out with his left hand. If you are close to pass out. you can stand up almost directly with dizziness. If you are really choked out, you become unconscious. The ref. stopped it just before that happened. It's very obvious. Royce lost and the Gracies had too much pride (pun intended) to admit it.

Yoshida is a highly competitive Judo fighter that got in the Olympics for no reason, he got all the sneaky tricks inside his sleeve (pun intended). The Gracies are exactly the same thing, so Royce was using sneaky trick against sneaky trick (but in the Royce's defense, if he really locked that choke he would not yell to the referee, he would squeeze out until he could not anymore, giving absolutely no doubts).
