Can you do videos on throws that are banned for safety? My old judo school did them as self defense examples and I rarely see anyone speak about them.

I've not done 'big throws" (uchi mata, seio nage, kata guruma, etc.) but was required to for a shodan test. Even in Naga No Kata, we did not do the full lift version- rather, a low roll-off type. My uke in the test was a highly skilled 2nd degree, about 15 lbs heavier than I, and good friend, who no doubt helped me- it went very well, and I am grateful to know what it feels like. No one was hurt, and I passed!

I am new to grappling and unfortunately do not have a judo gym near me for like an hour away drive so I am just trying to find space to get the throws in after whatever they teaches us for the day
@ktkt1825 Жыл бұрын
It would be best if you practice only with supervision of a coach or highly skilled player in the dojo. It is much safer for Uke, and you will develop good habits quicker.

The issue with the variant as shown, from a competition judo perspective, is that he lets go which as I understand it means he wouldn't count as having control for the criteria of an ippon. "For throws, the four criteria to grant an ippon are: speed, force, landing on the back and skilful control until the end of the landing." According to a quick google search, could be wrong.

Some tips I will give guys learning the standard technique at my judo club are; insert your forward knee past uka's knees and to bring up your chin during the lift to help your posture.

In free style wrestling this takedown is relatively common

Would that variation (the morote gari to kata garuma over the back) if hit like that be an instant ippon? How would that be a wazari?
@Chadi Жыл бұрын
It is an Ippon if they land flat on their back, if they turn and land sideways it’s waza ari
@TheDevourerOfPancake Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's responsible for many injuries either. Like a lot of judo throws, it's the legs that are whipping through the fastest. It's not like a blast double or suplex where the head is what's whipping on the longest arc
@christophervelez1561 Жыл бұрын
@@Chadi I think that might be why this wasn't done within competition for judo. In freestyle wrestling this throw can net you 5 points if it was violent enough. In judo this throw doesn't have any control so your opponent could turn out no?

There should be a separate category of competition where the objective is to remain standing after you've thrown your opponent to the ground. It would be practical training for a real street fight, where you want to stay on your feet in case your attacker has friends.
@ktkt1825 Жыл бұрын
A good many throws in situations require the energy and commitment to roll out/over the landing. Adding a stipulation to remain standing imposes some limits. In a street fight, you should always feel free to use the opponent as a cushion of sorts. :)

There's a few shoulder wheels and shoulder drops. But one I know was missed out, and this one you pull the opponent onto your shoulders stand tall and drop the opponent off the back. It's fairly nasty to the opponent.

Is Makko-gaeshi(真向返) the variation of Morote-gari?
@SlickTim9905 Жыл бұрын
Please provide more information from your point of view. It is possible for several terms to refer to different aspects of the same move. Te means hand. Morote could mean a two handed grab in an Aikido class. Gari could mean a leg technique in a judo class. Kote-gaeshi in an Aikido class would mean a wrist-twist. But in each case there are variations. Notice it doesn't tell you what the feet are doing. So yes you could have a two handed throw and a one handed variation. And another variation with a leg technique.

@@SlickTim9905 I said about left side technique of the thumbnail. I knew that Makko-gaeshi is the variation of Morote-gari. But I don't know how Makko-gaeshi move. I wanted to ask if the makkogaeshi is the technique on the left side of the thumbnail.
