@@teovu5557some traditional jujitsu styles don’t do much ne-waza and some do. Judo was born form jujitsu after all including ground fighting. But for many jujitsu systems, throwing them on the ground meant you could finish them off with your tanto or short sword.
@dianecenteno5275 Жыл бұрын
@jjs3890 💯! The ground fighting really started to evolve after Japan became a "modern " country in the late 1800s when the weapons were removed from most practice. Judo was created and added to most Jujutsu systems.
@dianecenteno5275 Жыл бұрын
It is making a comeback! It has evolved, and some people are realizing its effectiveness in combat and self-defense ( always has been). Takenouchi is a good system and blends well with all Jujutsu systems. Enjoy your journey!

Thanks for the video, Chadi. It really shows that BJJ was originally JUDO, which also came from old Jiu-Jitsu(Kitōryū and Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū).I had the opportunity to take a BJJ practice once and could make sure there was NO STANDING fight, which shows BJJ is ,as says Reylson Gracie a ¨mutilated martial art ¨. Many BJJ people complain about judo not having ¨newaza¨, but in my dojo we practice both ¨newaza¨ and ¨tachiwaza¨.Instead of doing BJJ to improve my ¨newaza¨, which won't guarantee a victory in a judo tournament, I prefer to keep on learning aikido and gojuryu karate.押忍

Hi Chadi. The blond guy being thrown by Helio Gracie on the comedy show (Os Trapalhões) was also very famous here in Brasil as a catch wrestler. His name was Ted Boy Marino. Here you can see him in action during the 1960's: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q56xpGSfe7qbbac
@donotstalkme Жыл бұрын
Ted Boy Marino was a pro wrestler, yes, but I wouldn't call him a catch wrestler as in a "Brazilian Luta Livre" guy. If I'm not mistaken he didn't compete in real matches during his carrer, he was just a pretty guy that becane the face o brazilian pro wrestling in the 60s and 70s. He was the argentinian Takada, not the the brazilian Sakuraba.

It seems that the Gracies started to gradually use less judo/jiujitsu throws and relied more on wrestling body lock trips and guard pulls as time went on. However , i find it fascinating and awesome that the mma and submission grappling world have now (within the last 5-10 years) integrated judo takedowns back into the game.
@ranfan1820 Жыл бұрын
It really saddens me that modern BJJ discarded Judo's beautiful throws. Now it's 99% ground 1% wrestling. Grandmaster Helio placed a lot of importance in self defense and his throws look amazing. So that further proves throws have an important place in self defense but modern bjj doesn't care.

Bro look at some of the top BJJ dudes today, like Gordon Ryan and Craig Jones... Not only do they use a lot of judo throws and sweeps, but even now-illegal judo takedowns like the kani basame. The game has evolved and Judo is here to stay in this evolution.

The Jujutsu take on Charles Atlas at the end is hilarious. It looked like HG lifted with his hips on the Taiotoshi, which would make it something else, if we're going by Kano's definitions. It's great he could do it at his age in the video, although he lost balance, and it didn't look like an intended sacrifice.

They paired down the takedowns for self-defense. Getting the perfect Judo throw was too risky, when all they needed to do was get their opponent down the smiplest way possible. Also, sometimes the emphasis on the big ippon causes a thrower to roll through. It happened to Karo against Mat Serra. A throw so perfect that he kept rolling, and ended up in guard.
