www.MMAWeekly.com/ -- LAS VEGAS -- The rift between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen became one of the most heated rivalries in the history of the UFC. They finally settled the score in the Octagon at UFC 148 on Saturday night, Silva once again getting the better of Sonnen.
Despite all the craziness, the American Gangsta shtick, and the bravado heading into the fight, Sonnen showed his humility afterwards, giving Silva his due.
"The better guy wins every time," said Sonnen. "The better guy won tonight."
Check out Chael Sonnen's comments from Saturday night's UFC 148 post-fight press conference.

I've realized over time that Chael plays a character, a role, and he plays it VERY well. He talks a lot of shit, he does his thing and he angers a lot of people along the way, but one thing is certain, the man has incredible class and respect in defeat and the real Chael comes out, not his character. Thats why I like him, hes very humble, both in defeat and in victory.

I'm a Silva fan since the PRIDE days, and I gotta say: it was HUGELY SATISFYING to see Silva smash Chael then squash the negativity between himself and Chael in the Octagon. And--give Chael his props--both times Chael lost? He made no excuses in the postfight presser. Now Chael might have inhabited Planet WTF after the postfght pressers, but during the postfight pressers? He was a classy no excuses giving man who lost but who vows to keep on. Props to him. Both real men did what real men do.

Say what you will about Sonnen, it's not many guys these days who will basically say: "Yeah I lost. I have no excuses. The better man beat me fair & square." Especially after all his talking leading into this fight, that had to be tough. In a world where "broken ribs", "fevers", "hand injuries", "Vaseline", "illegal strikes" & every other possible excuse for losing are common place in a post-fight interviews. Here is a guy with no excuses. I have to respect that.

I agree with everything you said. Never seen him so off like that. It was like two different days when the bell rang to begin round 2. Gotta hand it to Silva, he's comfortable on his back. He defended better than he did in the first fight. Sonnen needs to learn to fight smarter. He's aggressive which is good, but he needs to fight smarter.

the man is awesome from both points of view, sportsmanship and character. don't confuse what people say in sports to sell events (especially combat sports) with how they might be in actuality! silva is top of the world right now, nobody needs to argue that, but great matches almost never have BUT ONE great fighter in them. it takes two !

i couldnt imagine how hard this would all be for sonnen. As much as i hated the prick coming into this fight he was a good fighter. He did well in the first round, that swinging back fist was out of place for him, and when silva sniffs blood (the way he starts slipping and keeping his guard down) you know its going to be over. GOAT i think

@Chael Sonnen I absolutely love Chael Sonnen. In my honest eyes, he may not go down as the greatest UFC fighter but without question, he will go down as the hardest working mma. Looking at his past fights and moving along the ladder of his career, you can see the evolution of this man. It blows my mind! He motivates me. He inspires me. Most of all, he is true to himself and I respect that. With respect.

The real deal is this: Chael Sonnen is a "smarter fighter" than he is a "great fighter". Meaning, his intelligence exceeds his physical ability. I think he is Hall of Fame material. Hype is the front game and appreciation for the sport AND your opponent is saved for after the fight. Good job Chael!!!!

As much I was saddened to see Sonnen lose, he is a great sport to say and admit that the better fighter won. Also, him accepting that the knee was clean and he supports the ref's view on it is truly what a man actually says. Rather than hearing "if it wasn't for the knee, I would have won" or "if I wasn't sick, I would have performed better." Truly a remarkable man to admit his loss. I don't know why people still say things like "Sonnen is shit!". Just look at him admit his loss.
