Because traditional weightlifting doesn’t translate as well to grappling. The strongest man I ever met was a lifelong wrestler from the country who spent his childhood bailing hay and his early 20s doing concrete work. It’s extreme strength in odd positions that mimics grappling way better than squatting benching and deadlifting

Someone on production please give this too chael. First, i wanna hear more of chael's experience in provo. Secondly, i want to know if he was around when Josh Burkman was at quest, if so what he thought about him!?! And the reason why is josh burkman is that guy for me! I went with many good ufc roatered guys considering our room had 3 full time guys then of course the others would come in. Evan Tanner being one that came in (rip), jorge lopez would come in, court mcgee full time just to set the scene, and obviously josh was full time. Absolute MMA in utah under Rob Handley. At any rate, going with many different elite level guys, 1 being a literal world champion at 185!! Nobody ever came close to the problem josh burkman was!! I had went from playing linebacker in college straight to there so i was a guy who on strength alone would be ok with almost anyone in clinch, grappling exchanges, anything ground related basically due to a little wrestling up bringing but really i hate to say it cause i don't want to sound like "that guy".. but i was genuinely strong, some would say really strong. (For context). And as far as striking i was decent skill wise, decent technique but big power. When i say josh burkman was "different" then anything id fealt or anyone i went with?? Its an understatement!! I can't adequately describe how hard he hit or how physically strong he was aswell!! Im very curious to learn if chael ever matched up with josh while he was at quest and his experience with him??
