As a local at one point, move to the USA, and visited there earlier this year 2023. Cambodia has come a long way and I believe we have enough tourist, modernization, unique cultural experiences for any regular tourists now. The problem is, people forget that Cambodia is still recover from civil war and some foreigner like to compare us to our neighbor Thailand. We have a unique charm compare to Thailand! And don’t forget, to visit Laos as well! SEA asia are so rich in culture and food!

Yes. If we did not have to go trough the 70' we of cause not this behind, so really cant compare us to other countries, remember we had to start from scratch after all educated people got killed. I would say no where is perfect, it's all up to you how you want to live, where you go, you need to have an awareness of your surroundings, from my bad experiences avoid going out late and being a lone at night at the quiet places, I got robbed in different country too so this my message to you out there doesn't mater where you're you should be alert. Sometimes we just happens to be at the right time in the wrong spot also because I didn't watch my back!

I love this video which shows the perspective of foreigner traveling and living in Cambodia. It seems they had unpleasant experience with thief, road, and obviously how Cambodia is developing rapidly and the once good place for western tourism are long gone such as Shihanouk Vile, and yet they still enjoy our food, culture, people and accept the imperfection of Cambodia. Thanks so much for this video. Once again, Cambodia may share the same culture with Thailand but it is very different in almost every ways. So don't come to Cambodia while expecting the same experience as Thailand. Edited: The old man with white hair is so funny and blunt, I like his attitude.

I really appreciate how you try to show a lot of good tourist spots of Cambodia. My message to all foreigners is that never trust anything as long as you never see it by your own eyes so yeah, visit Cambodia once. Actually, nowhere is the safest place; you need to be careful on your own (I feel too much pressure when I went to Paris). It is true that Cambodia media is still weak unlike the neighboring countries so we cannot spread out some true facts of Cambodia to all around the world. Some people never come to Cambodia yet they already assume what Cambodia is like from the media or anything else about the negative sides of Cambodia.

Phnom Penh, Kampuchea was once known as the Pearl of South East Asia, until the U.S. secret bombings, civil war, then genocide occur. This makes quite a bit of sense. A pearl is in the middle/center of the oyster and Phnom Penh is in the middle of South East Asia.

Cambodia should return the money that Thailand has raised and helped them. In the internal war that took place The current value is 12 billion dollars. That's money Thailand lost to take care of 3 million Cambodians in 28 immigration centers for 4-8 years. The United Nations has never paid money to Thailand. Only a small amount of food was sent to help. Cambodia is the most disgusting country.

Cambodia was my favourite South East Asian country. I've not been back since early 2018. I loved Sihanoukville and Seam Reap (esp Angkor Wat), but they've both changed a lot recently, esp Sihanoukville which I think has been totally over developed for the benefit of Chinese business men. Kamot I believe still has some of the charm it had 10+ years ago, but I guess like most places, it's changing and the high rise buildings are creeping in. Still, I'm guessing the general Cambodian hasn't changed massively, which is great as I always found Cambodians to be outwardly happy and friendly people. Hopefully I will be back in the not too distant future

I disagree. It was not laidback in any way. I encountered many unhelpful, ugly and rude encounters, extreme pushiness and even hostility. Not a culture for one to seek a (permanent) new life. I went there many times looking for my British husband (whom I still hope for a reunion with him) but realised the futility of even restarting a new life alone there. I hope Mark see this post and realised it was a huge mistake for us to venture to Cambodia to start a new life and that Cambodia is only suitable for a stopover.

Truth! Female, western and was alone in Cambodia for a bit. Use common sense, a secure bag, find a great tuk tuk buddy ( who I am still friends with to this day!(: ) and be nice to the super awesome people, and politely walk away from the occasional encounter with the disrespectful ones. Cambodia was very polarized in attitude to a lone female tourist. The good people outweighed the bad by a long way though.

I think it all depends on your preference, not everything will meet everyone needs. I don't understand why people created a negative about Cambodia, maybe Cambodia people are too traditional, they can't accommodate the tourists accomodations. Khmer people came a long way to rebuild a country less than 35 years or less, looks how the economy grows so fast. I don't think it's fair to compare with Thailand or Vietnamese country. These two country were ahead whereas Cambodia is starting from zero. Just be greatful, happy and bless if you can afford to travel 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I've been to Cambodia over the years for extended periods, backpacking. These travellers haven't experienced Sihanoukville before, or how Phnom Penh used to be like. It's changed a lot in these aspects. Sihanoukville was the best thing about Cambodia. Now it's gone. Kampot is no way ever gonna replace it, nor Kep. The older guy basically is saying the rest of my thoughts. The people are so friendly, and Phnom Penh has some great Khmer food, and Chinese restaurants. Cambodia is still a great Country with that Wild West vibe, just not as. untouched as it once was. Those who said Thailand is too Touristy went to the touristy areas. Whilst most of Thailand is developed, Thai only places are still abundant in the North. Thailand is still amazing. And Thailand can still offer that amazing SEAsia experience, you just need to go to the right areas. Don't miss Vietnam or Laos, or Myanmar. Cheers.

@@tsp7517 I see nowhere that said either country was safe or not safe. Wherever you go around the world you need to be open minded and cautious. There are undesirables in every country however fortunately outweighed by happy welcoming people. Golden rule number one has always been to respect the culture and the people of the country you are in and you can't go too wrong hopefully.

I visited Cambodia 4 times with my German wife. We visited Kampot, Phnom Penh and a southern island, I don't remember name but very beautiful with pure nature. It's name sounds like "Rapid". We even traveled by train which was removed in time of Khmer Rouge. Cambodia a is beautiful and people are friendly. I am going to bring my parents and my children to visit that island again. Love Cambodia from Vietnam

There is Grab, and Passap for transport. Work beautifully for ordering transport in most towns. I've been living in a smaller town for 6 months and although the initial impression was 'what a dump' I've learned my way around and it's become a great, affordable, friendly quirky place that makes me smile every day. Including my cheap comfortable aircon room with an onsite swimming pool :) I've found people very honest about money, prices, giving change etc. and in my town I feel completely safe. Phnom Penh is way too much traffic and built up for me though.. naaah.

Anw, for phone grabing, i suggest u do not use it on transportation unless its in the car for your safety ofc, not just phone, purse and all ur personal belonging unless its a book then u'll be fine. I had trips to the UK, London to be exact, there are even worst, phone grabing, watch stoler and more extreme stuff but yeah my point is that in literally every part of the world, there are bad and good cant just be good or else it wont be balance. Man, Chai, you are exploring every country lately. Thanks for the info on Cambodia. It's already on my "check it out list." Hey, if it is helpful, I"m no expert on subtitles, but yours are coming up as grey on a black background rather than white, so they are quite hard to read. I don't use them but until I turn them off, they pop on automatically, but if I used them, they'd be hard to read. So just an FYI if helpful. I always enjoy your Man on the Street conversations. @LG-lb7sf
@LG-lb7sf Жыл бұрын
@@spicysalsaking791 "Borotheh(s)" or បរទេស in Khmer means foreigner. The term "Barang" or ជនជាតិបារាំង means French. If a non-Khmer uses Barang in the context you're suggesting, it is misused and was misinterpreted. Since it was the French that were mainly present during the pre-Khmer Rouge era, it was likely a generalized, umbrella term. However, to use more concise language, we say "borotheh(s)" for foreigner and "Barang" for French. I study language and am also Cambodian.

@@onmywayto974 Ouch, doesn't feel politically correct even with this very localized meaning attached, derived likely from colonial reign of the French. I would just use the proper word for foreigners which is "បរទេស" (bartes, pronounced "bara-teh" ).

Most of the negative comments on Cambodia are their Neighbouring countries. But once again, it's understandable. Don't believe of what you read on Internet.
