On the Laos side of the Golden Triangle, there is an area called the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, an area that has been leased by a Chinese company for 99 years. People there call the area little China and apparently it feels more like China than Laos. People are warned off going there due to the risk of kidnappings . Ken the German vlogger was there just recently to check it out. Maybe it is due to that area that countries are issuing a warning. Another top video mate. Cheers Chai 🤩

Interesting. Yeah, I wouldn’t dive into too much politics but there are definitely some interesting areas within Laos 😅 yet Laos is super safe to travel to. Especially the known travel destinations in Laos :) thanks Steven

@stevens8785 That zone is not considered your typical Laos. Inside that zone, I hear there are casinos, underground scamming companies, drug trafficking, prostitution and all the illegal activities you can think of. Laos government does not have jurisdiction there.

First went to Laos in 1997 when it was quite difficult to get a visa. Went to Thailand for a one month holiday in 2003 and I am still here! I have bicycled the length of Laos a few times now (Huay Xai - Pakse). LP was extraordinary that first visit in 97. I went to LP in 97 with a friend (a 30 year BKK expat) who while in the Peace Corps had lived in LP in 1973 and actually saw from the balcony of his house the helicopter take off from the Royal Palace with the Laos royal family (who were never to be seen again!). I still very much like it but it’s now a tourist simulacrum of what it used to be. I’ll be in LP for the LP Film Festival in December. I’ll be there for a month. Although, it's quite chilly in the mornings in December! The most dangerous thing in Laos (as with almost anywhere in SEA) is the traffic. After 20 years of living in SEA, I have had six friends killed either on motorcycles or bicycles. Personally, I think bicycles are probably more dangerous than motorcycles.Cheers.

Been to Laos two times, because it's a wonderful country. It is safe in general, unless you're driving/riding, that's when it can get dangerous. Avoid accidents at all cost, you'll be paying not just the damages for they other guy's vehicle/motorcycle, but also his 'livelihood' for not be able to use his mode of transport 😶 (a friend had to be bailed out for a small mishap).

I’ve travelled to Laos 4 times now and have had no issues there, except riding bikes on the dodgy roads. However, the first time I travelled there I was staying in a hostel in Vientiane and 3 girls came back to the hostel in hysterics saying that their partners had been taken at gunpoint by a group of guys dressed in military uniforms at the amusement park area next to the night market. About an hour later the guys arrived back at the hostel and said that they were all forced to go the atm and withdraw about $1000 usd each or they would be arrested. If it was me I would have probably taken option B. I was lucky because I had been in the same area about 15 minutes before them.

I have not been to Laos but, I was in the U.S. Navy and I've been to many countries. This is important because, as an American, I've seen where Americans embarass me when they act rude or they think they are better than anyone else and, those types of behavior can cause issues and do cause issues. And then, those same people want to know what happened !? So, basically, if you treat people with kindness, you will see kindness.

I mean, "bad apples" are everywhere, drugs and such is also probably in every country, but people with "normal" activities I don't think needs to be afraid of that. Just have your vitts and reasoning mind 🥰 my beliefs ❤️

I agree with my fellow aussies i felt safer in Vietnam , Cambodia or Thailand less mental health on the streets only saw 1 beggar in Siem reap where as in the big australian cities beggars are every few metres and the thing that really refreshing you do not see homeless people picking up cigarettes butts off the streets as you do here.

Luang Prabang International Airport in Luang Prabang Province. Pakse Internatioanl Airport in Champasak Province.

At the same time I like your video, and I am uncomfortable with it. Your own opinion is clearly the basis for this vlog, but you do not in any way delve into why several countries reputable for their advice to their citizens put out warning messages. There is no research here, just a personal biased opinion (which might be correct) put forward and fortified with a few random interviews.
@Chai_Travel
@Chai_Travel Ай бұрын
First of all I’m sorry this video is making you somewhat uncomfortable. The street interview videos I make about South East Asia are always seeking for people’s opinions and experiences. I can tell you that Laos is a very safe country to travel to. This is my own experience, others, and I also do research behind the scenes. Come prepared, always get a good travel insurance, and use common sense.
