A suggestion since you want to visit Indonesia, land in Jakarta, explore the city. After that took either the Woosh or the Panoramic train to Bandung. Spend some times there then book the Executive train, stop and explore every major and small cities in Java, they are very clean and idyllic. After that cross the channel by ferry to Bali.

I didn't like the Lithuanian guy's use of words "if you're from Western countries or more civilized countries". 🤣Does he understand what "civilized" means? Just China has a 5000 year old civilization and is more advanced, has the largest banks and companies in the world, has the most futuristic infrastructure, has the most skyscrapers in the world and is richer than the entire EU. Just Tokyo is the richest city on earth and light years ahead of any Western city. Asia has the lowest crime on earth, cleanest cities, most advanced companies from AliBaba to Pinduoduo to Byte Dance - that is the real definition of civilized, not the crumbling and poor economies of the West. Even countries like Thailand, which is considered 3rd world has a way more sophisticated culture than any Western country, but he still deems it as uncivilized. He seemed like a nice and interesting guy until he said that, then I thought he must be out of his mind.
@flaneurnz2 ай бұрын
Honestly, I felt offended in a way as well. That's incorrect of him to say "civilised". I think what he meant was western countries as (developed) countries. He should be careful.

I don’t think my Lithuanian friend didn’t mean to offend anyone and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t rephrase it if he would have known ☮️✌️
@HeatherLewis2132 ай бұрын
@@flaneurnz Possibly, but I think civilized is just another way of saying "superior" to him. I doubt it was a Freudian slip but rather his true intent. I would argue that much of Asia is also way more advanced and developed than most of the Western world so I'm not sure if "developed" would've even been more accurate. Thailand is a "developing" country but it is also richer than the vast majority of European countries, with way more skyscrapers, state of the art condos, malls, restaurants, cafes etc - it is much sleeker and more modern than most European countries outside of the main Western European economies. Like he's from Lithuania, a relatively poor country but just kind of loops himself in with the other rich Western European countries and says "but I'm international" etc almost as if he is embarrassed, so it's a combination of the words he chose that make me suspicious. I mean are you going to seriously compare Lithuania to Singapore, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia etc? There's no remote comparison, just the thought of suggesting Lithuanians go to ultra advanced, spotlessly clean, virtually crime free, high commerce places like Osaka or Shanghai or Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and be open minded to learn about how to live an uncivilized life just because they're not White is comical to me. Meanwhile places like London, Paris, San Francisco, NYC etc are full of crime, garbage, stabbings, shootings everyday, people strung out on tranq, mentally ill people, migrants camping out in tents hanging their laundry to dry etc. You don't see any of that in "uncivilized Asia".
@hafizhassan97862 ай бұрын
I think could be his English command in choosing the right word,but mind you Lithuania is not that developed compard to Western European countries as the country is ex USSR and just joined EU not far ago. I have been to Vilnius, Lithuanian capital city and the city feel a bit gloomy due to Soviet Union grey buildings, some people are friendly but most of them feel they are better than other races mostly non white. It could be their mentality. Many of the young generation migrated and working in Western Europe mostly Germany and the UK.

There are many countries in southeast Asia that are wonderful in so many ways… the people, the food, the culture, the low, low, low cost of living. But none of that matters much if as a retiree you can’t afford to stay there to enjoy it. After retiring and living in the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand and only visiting Malaysia, I’ve found that Cambodia (here 2 years now) is by far the EASIEST and cheapest country to retire in. Thailand is even nicer but Immigration is very tricky and complicated and can be expensive: A $24,000.USD deposit in your newly-opened Thai bank is just one hurdle. Reporting to Immigration every 90-days for life is the other inconvenience. Malaysia’s MM2H retirement visa is even more expensive. Vietnam has NO retirement visa.

I live in Indonesia these days (Not Bali, as I like traveling around the archipelago) but personally it is still Thailand my favourite SEA country, but id say Indonesia is a close second, the hardest thing about South East Asia is you can only be at one place at a time to truly get a grasp and get to know a country. I think my main reason for loving Thailand the most is probably due to the fact it was the first SEA country I visited, and I fell in love with the food there, but in general all countries in South East Asia have amazing food, like I love Indonesian and Vietnamese food, but since it was not the first place I visited here, it doesn't have the same meaning in my heart, with that said, it's my favourite region in the entire world, the people and the diverse cultures they have just make it an absolute joy to live and travel around here. If it was for someone who doesn't have a lot of time to explore, id just tell them to go visit Bangkok, Phuket or Bali to be honest as they are basically set up for tourists, anyone with more time then it is good to get off the beaten track and explore :)
