Josh, you had it right the first time in my eyes: I fully believe they DID time this transition intentionally to save Bloom. I think it’s partly that and partly so that Bloom can fully focus on the development, get that perfected, and then move into GM in 2026 with it already a well-oiled machine and he’s fully focused on the MLB team. Mo confirmed that he would be discussing any moves that affect the future with Bloom, so I think that’s actually a really good thing for them to have done this.

Never thought about the optics of Bloom taking over next year. Great point guys. Also, I don't care if we totally suck for the next 3 seasons. Tear it all down as long as it gets built back up the right way. Real fans will understand. Im sick of mediocrity. Mediocrity is worse than sucking for three years then being good for 10.

Actually if Gorman and Walker ( if they are still here) would start next season hitting like the good hitters they are supposed to be, the offense could be a lot better than anyone expects. The young starting pitching being ready a head of schedule ..Mathew’s,Hjerpe,Hence … would make a tremendous difference also. Plus what good young players could they get for Helsley and any other veterans they trade. Right now there is no way to know how many wins they could get next year. No reason to spend the whole winter being negative. Also MO wants to go out on a positive note next year so he is very motivated this off season.

Trading Contreras isn't a bad idea at all - - - -they've got CRAZY GOOD Depth at C w/ I. Herrera, Pages, Ji. Crooks, L. Bernal.

Bloom doesn't need another year learning the cardinals he is a experienced former gm. Most fans won't be happy having Mo and Marmol back again next year. Pure b.s the reasoning for Mo staying another year.

They will probably keep some veterans for leadership. Plus who will exercise their no trade option ?? Some of the big contracts could stay until the trade deadline to see how the young guys perform.

I could see maybe one big name getting moved, but I don’t think Mo has the spine for a full-scale tear down. He won’t want his final year to be remembered like that. They’ll convince themselves they can try to compete while still taking a step back. It’ll be more of the same (perhaps with one eye on the future) until Bloom takes over.

I don’t think they are that far away. The young guys just need to improve enough to win about 8-10 more games. The pitching needs some better arms and more of them.

TBH, I see Contreras, 'Nado and Gray coming back. Don't think they'll want to go, or any potential partners giving up what the Cards should be asking, prospect wise. Plus the FO still needs to sell tickets. If you're putting AAA players on the field for an MLB team, they aren't going to sell many tickets. They still need that income. Helsley? He gone. Fedde is a wild card. I could see another club giving up what the Cards might be asking for him, but the future isn't clear. Goldy definitely won't be coming back, unless he agrees to re-negotiate for a MUCH lower salary, 10 - 12 mil range. I agree with Josh, 120M - 130M is probably the payroll range, though. 78 - 80 wins could be doable, we'll just have to see what happens this winter.

I have followed the Cardinals since the 60’s. The Cardinal way worked for the long time but value players can’t win anymore. I used to buy 10 cent candy bars but that doesn’t work today. Baseball is for the rich and if DeWitts don’t have money to burn they should sell.

Mozeliak kinda pushed back on the total rebuild narrative. An Arenado trade and Goldschmidt leaving would be a huge change, hope they don’t give away Gray and Contreras just to save money.

It’s correct strategy Mo taking the PR hits in ‘25 Even if Girsch was an asset, he’s tied to Mo so he has to go. STL has to deal Helsley, Arenado, 50/50 Contreras, I only trade Gray for a prospect overpay from xyz team. STL will spend $15-$25mil on pitching. You do still have to make it through 162 games after all.

So.....if Complete Rebuild......guess should count on the following being gone looking ahead to the '25 season: Goldschmidt, Gibson, Lynn, Kittredge, Contreras, Gray, Helsley & Arenado And even though Young, may just give up on STILL?: Gorman Who does that leave: Winn, Donovan, Nootbaar, Herrera, Pages, Fedde (about the oldest to be retained), Pallante, McGreevy, Ma. Liberatore, L. Baker?, Burleson, Saggese Team won't be White Sox bad, but they're going to be Marlins / Rockies bad!!!! Would be VERY DIFFICULT to envision them NOT being any better than 2nd or 3rd Worst in the NL for the '25 season!!!

If they keep Helsley it's a total failure of organization. Arenado is for sure gone and so is Contreras. They don't want to rebuild and you can get pieces for them to help build for 2026 and 2027

Yeah, '25 season is a piece of shi! season coming up. 2023 repeat? Heck, could see worse if purge Gray, Contreras & Helsley off the roster. I mean payroll would go down even if ALL THEY DID was NOT RESIGN Goldschmidt, Lynn, Gibson & Kittredge. SHOULDN'T BE A NEED for anyone else to be dealt!!!!!!! Maybe, why it's only STRONGLY being considered w/ Gray because he WILL be making a LOT more $ than last season. Fedde, Pallante & McGreevy were ending the season all 3 on pretty good rolls. Might be wise, to follow the idea of INSTEAD of Dealing Helsley, to have him fill-out the 4th rot. spot. Maybe the 5th is a Graceffo spot that would morph into Quinn Matthews.

Yea, next year is a wasted year. Mo sucks almost as much as Dewitt. I won't be going to any games next year either. I may come back someday. Not until they deserve my money. Everyone else can do as they please. Especially after Dewitt made a crack about fans coming back, or they spend even less. I can barely believe they aren't getting Mo out of there. They are liars and care more about the money than they do winning. Otherwise, they wouldn't have let the infrastructure go to heck.
