Buster Posey wants Giants to "make memories" (Press Conference)

In the span of two years, Buster Posey has gone from joining the San Francisco Giants' ownership group and being part of its board of directors to now taking on the role of president of baseball operations.
Farhan Zaidi is out after six years, and Posey is in the job after the Giants missed out on the MLB playoffs for the sixth time in seven seasons. Just two seasons ago, they won 107 games and the NL West, but the 2023 season saw the team wins its fewest number of games (79) over a full season since 2019 (77).
Posey, 37, is three years removed from retiring after a 12-season MLB career, all in San Francisco. He won Rookie of the Year, NL MVP and three World Series titles, but now the former catcher is tasked with turning the franchise's fortunes around and bringing winning baseball back to the area - something that drew him to the job.
"The opportunity to be a part of a team, to have the chance to elevate staff, elevate players. We're in a memory-making business," Posey said during Tuesday's introductory press conference. "Sure, winning is great, and ultimately that's our goal, but the overall big picture of being a part of something bigger than yourself is really appealing."

They couldn’t have made a better choice than Buster for this role. I 100% believe that his heart and soul is entirely on the game and WINNING. He may not have experience in this role, but he’s got some great people around him to advise him. I have a lot of confidence that this was the right move.

For Buster to go back to his home state and then come back to the Bay Area not only shows that he truly sees the bay as home but that the Giants are an organization that are player-focused. I agree with all the commenters here. I remember watching us win world series on the tv when I was 8-12 years old. My nephews rn have no interest in these giants and it breaks my heart. I hope they can see their hometown team win for once and return to another championship win so they can make memories

When I heard Gerald say “we’re in the memory making business” I knew he was the right choice. What made that quote hurt is the recent debacle with the A’s. They coulda used some of Posey’s mindset

It is a business but there are good run business and bad run business. A’s had money issues but they were poorly run since Fisher bought them. Giants should have let them move to San Jose. It was never their territory to start with.

Watching this clip now. I also watched the Rogers Sportsnet Jays press conference at 11. Both teams needed changes. You guys brought in a baseball guy. The Jays corporate-shilled. The difference in direction is going to show up next year when the Giants are at least a playoff contender and we're struggling to make .500 unless we grossly overpay in free agency.

A very smart PR move by the Giants. As a diehard A’s fan, even I like Buster. Tie that in with BoMel and Chappy, I’m sure some A’s fan might be swayed to lean toward the other side of the bay.

I thought he would be a manager not a GM. It could go either way but the Giants need to go in one direction, either be really bad and re build the farm system or be really good. .500 is nowhere not good enough for the playoff not bad enough to draft a difference maker.

Buster did an interview on the KZbin channel " Foul Territory" a few months ago. He said he had NO desire to be a manager/coach. One reason he stated was the time commitment required to do so
