Very nice restore of the Hoist Jon. Nice restore of the Prayer Wheel, both jobs well done. Coffing Hoist were our many hoist we used on the ships. I fixed up many a hoist. They are the best hoist around. Thanks for sharing the great restore.

Right On Randy! 🙌 That’s cool to hear that you had them on the ships. This is one of the best chain hoists I’ve owned. I’ve got some other old school ones. Maybe I’ll do some restoration on those!

Jon, ive used those type of hoists hundreds of times and always wondered how they worked. This was a great video to show how they worked and how many parts are inside. Right on Jon and thanks for the education! 👏📽🇺🇸

Right On Roger! 🙌 Same here! I haven’t taken one apart and was excited to see all the inner workings as I took it apart. It’s a great mechanism. Perhaps I’ll do some more videos like this. It is quite satisfying!

Right On Roadking! 🙌 Thanks for the comment! Hopefully Fred is smiling down seeing the hoist restored. I’m really glad to have it restored myself. I put it right back into use. No tool collecting around here. I know that hoist wants to lift things. 💪😄

Fantastic Restoration, looked worse on the inside than I was expecting, definitely must've spent time outside. I don't think I ever got over my amazement of chain hoists no matter how many times we used them. To be raising a steel beam that weighed 10x or even 20x more than a man by oneself is magical.

Right On Raw Bacon! 🙌 Yeah I could see that this hoist was holding some water inside. I didn’t put any gaskets back in when I assembled it. Maybe I’ll do that a some point. So many projects I’ve got. Probably won’t happen. 😄😂

Turned out nice. When I was growing up these would be in one of three places, the driveway of a corncrib, on the limb of a big oak tree or in the shop. It all depended on what you had available.

Sounds like it was in all the right spots! My friend had pigs and had lots of corn in the corn crib! I haven’t thought about that in a while. 🐷 🌽

Jon, I had the same curiosity of taking everthing I had and things around the house, many I NEVER got back together, so much my mother called me a litte destructive, NOT so nice BASTURD. So when this take apart working plastic clock ( TICK TOY CLOCK) she bought it for me, and I tore it apart and put it together a hundred times LOL

Ha! Nice! I’ve still got a bunch of projects in pieces around my shop that need to be put back together! I’ve got that old Champion post drill that I took apart years ago on KZbin and never finished! Probably good to have the video of me taking it apart so I can put it back together! 😄

I will reveal a trade secret, that even some expert riggers do not know. If you look at the FACE of the chain hoist (with the hoists hand pull side FACING you), The chain on the RIGHt is always UP and the one on the left is always DOWN. :)

Right On! 🙌 That’s a good tip. Nice to get oriented with a tool. Got to be precise with that chain sometimes.

It looks like that one screw holding the hook on the end of the chain is the weakest part of the entire unit. I am surprised that it was not designed with some sort of backup. I guess if it has lasted this long,..
