In Canada we like to make sure the pretty side of the fence faces outwards not towards the property- this adds property value by making the yards look better from the street- this also ensures hardware cant be tampered with from the ourside- part of code especially if there's a pool ect.. Beautifuly built and looks great!

never heard of that here in US. people paid good money for a fence so they want to see their pickets.

In Germany too. Has to look good on the outside, otherwise there is serious irritation going on. Everybody prefers a good looking neighbourhood.

Where I live in the US, it’s REQUIRED to put the finished side out, or they make you take it down and do it over. Obviously this is different from place to place, but people like to think their rules/experience must be true for everyone, everywhere. 😂

Looks like a backyard and back alley, so aesthetics aren't as important. Wouldn't be too hard to box in each pole with 3 pickets or something, just to make it look a little neater.

I did the same thing in my carport, 3:48 but I used pre-made stockade fence panels. I like the hangers that you used on the horizontal bracing, these hangers look far superior to the c-style pipe hangers (tube straps) I used.

Nice work. The only upgrade would be to use brush-killer on the fence two or more weeks before trimming. If you spray-kill the plants/vines & wait long enough they'll pull off by hand. In ivy situations I'd want 90 or more days for the plants to dry b/c somehow it always get in my eye.

Ready seal cedar color is what I used on my own fence but its been about 3 or 4 years and needs a new coat already. However, i put Cabot on my deck and after a year it still looks like the day i put it on. Cordovian leather color semi solid. When applying you can tell the thickness of the stain is much higher quality than the watery ready seal. I have never used Thompsons Water Seal so not sure on that one.

What’s with the ladies’ ear protection? (J/k; those who know, know.) Screws down there, eh? Here we have to use nails because screws will break with the extreme (-45F to 115F, 5%-100% humidity) range. We use nails so they can move around a LITTLE. My fence with nails is great; my DIY neighbors’ with screws have half their boards/sections popped every year.

I did this on two sides of my back yard. The side facing my neighbor's make shift, thrown together, half metal pieces half wood mess my son and I placed the board's good sides facing into my yard. We couldn't use the neighbor's yard for installation. The back portion, which faces the apartment building across from me, we placed the boards on the outside, as it just looks much better.

I mean to each their own but I probably would have not left the fence posts exposed for aesthetics. Maybe no one sees that but I think building some wood box posts with 1x6s and 1x4s would have been slick. But also I wouldn’t have hired a handy man to build the fence. I would just build it myself so who am I to say anything at all. Especially coming from the guy that waits for the fence panel or pickets to blow over due to rotting, hack it back up, then wait for it completely disintegrate before replacing jt.
