The Rules for this Campaign are:
- Dead is dead. When I die, the campaign ends.
- Full realism settings. Only the external camera is allowed for filming purposes
- Manual Targeting
- No recognition manual for random merchant ships
- Attempt to abide by the historical orders in regards to the London Naval Treaty, Operating Procedures and Restrictions

These keep getting better and better. Definitely a "Das Boot" vibe in this one, watching the ship you've pummelled into exploding sink with all hands, knowing you've murdered all those men and circumstances prevent any attempt to rescue them or even act humanely. You don't see a lot of submarine simulation videos that recognize the horrible cost of war. Kudos.

Really appreciate your moment of silence for those brave sailors, Toncs. I, too, think the merchant marine gets a raw deal 😕 I mean, they took many of the same risks that many of the Navy folks did... but with none of the glory, and little of the recognition. Wars are won on logistics, so the importance of all those valiant sailors braving the seas time and time again to keep supply lines alive and flowing is *very* hard to overstate.

That is true. In my opinion the merchant crews that braved the convoy routes, often multiple times, put themselves in even greater mortal danger than the crew on the escorts. The merchants were the intended target after all. They definitely didn’t receive the recognition that would have been appropriate considering the impact they had on the course of the war.

Pretty impressive of them to spot you in the darkness.I guess the lookouts of the allied merchants are getting better as the war progress and they almost managed to hit you.Fortunately it was a small ship and the deck gun was enough for the job and your maneuvers were pretty impressive too.!!!

When a ship moves fast it kicks up more water and that water leaves fluorescent light. If you move fast you will be easier to spot because of that. I am not sure if this is implemented in game.

​@@tarkalakThat is true indeed!!.I also think in the game it is easier to spot you than in real life where the uboats were practically invisible in darkness(pre radar years at least) and they attacked from the surface even from the inside of convoys which is pretty risky in the game.The best tactic of course is to have the decks awash to minimize your profile even against destroyers.

Don't get too cocky with those AA guns firing at you. A few hits might destroy your deck gun and damage the hull integrity.

Does One-Alex mod have torpedo "wander"? When I have played SHIII with GWX mod, it seems that my straight-running torpedoes unrealistically move in a perfect straight line. Campbell's 1985 book "Naval Weapons of World War Two" says that the Type 53.3cm Type 95 torpedo used by IJN submarines has "Wander L or R (max) 170m/9000m"

No, SHIII torpedoes run at a straight line. Well except for the torpedoes with a search pattern and the accoustic ones, but what you describe is not modeled.

Unfortunately torps going off course is not modeled. A torp failure will always be represented by the torp going deep

When I played this game, I always improved my tower and anti-aircraft guns which is important and this was proved right when you were leaving port on your 12 patrol when you only had a single 2cm gun to shoot with, when you were been attacked when the allied bombers turned up to bomb the port. You should improve both your engines, batteries get a rubber coat to help your u-boat with sonar against destroyers. You should also add a petty officer with torpedo and diesel engine experience. Plus you also need to stop wasting torpedoes on shots that don’t, hit like when you fired at the warship with two torpedoes and missed. At that point I just shook my head and yelled at the screen. With your deck gun firing you totally waste so many shots it’s embarrassing. What you should be doing is just taking over control you would do more damage and use less shells. Every time you let the AI do the shooting I hold my head and disbelief and want to 😭 . I am a player of SH3 and my grandfather was a u-boat ace he taught me many a thing about attacking enemy ships. Your not as aggressive as you can be when attacking the enemy but at least your smart enough to know when to run and when to not engage cause the situation does not agree. With getting a larger type 9 submarine long range submarine I would say don’t get the IXB, but wait to earn more points to get the IXC or IXC/40 submarine. At least you can use those two to go into the south Atlantic or the Indian Ocean. After that point get the IXD2 modified and improved you can range all the way into the Pacific Ocean. Other wise a great series I have watched all your videos so far but other wise keep going. I would actually like to see you survive the whole war plus see what sort of tonnage you end up getting!!!.

I could get a better AA armament with a twin 20mm, but historically that wasn´t available at this point in the war so I have to make do.
