This was SO amazing! Thank you for all your ideas. Extremely helpful! I also live in Arizona and was playing with gel plates today. There were times that the paper ripped when I did a pull and stuck to the gel plate. I was using cardstock. Do you have any advice on preventing that from happening?

I have experienced the same! What I am observing is that if the humidity is below 20% or above 55%, it is more difficult for ME to pull a good print. One of the things I try when that is happening is to "condition" the plate, (smear mineral oil all over the surface, let it sit for ten minutes or so, then wipe it clean with baby wipes). Gelli plate printing is very magical when it works, and as you and I have both observed, there are times when it does not!

@@VikkiReed Vikki, thank you for the quick response. I will condition my plates tonight.😊

@@judyconstantino7035 I hope it helps! Other things to watch for...it's harder when the A/C or fan is blowing in your work space, and if your paper has any "tooth" or texture, it also makes it hard to get a clean pull. Good luck!

I loved all the final prints! The “chaos” seemed lovely to me, and what a great idea. I certainly have prints that need some oomph. Thank you, Vikki. Your videos are wonderful.

Thank you, Cathy! I'm so glad it sparked some new ideas for you, and yes, I know sometimes the prints were fine the way they were and I didn't need to keep going!

I love your bold color choices and the results that you got with them. If i use too many contrasting colors I tend to get muddy looking prints. I may need to play around with colors. Thx for the fun video!

Sharon, thank you, yes, you do need to consider using complementary colors carefully (lol!) I also avoid cadmiums as they create mud very quickly in my experience!

I don't throw away any prints. If they really can't be salvaged with more layers, then I cut them up to be matting for my greeting cards.

I wonder if folks in hot dry climates would have better luck if they added a small vaporizer to their work area (I realize table space is at a premium, but the sacrifice might be worth it). I use one from Vicks with distilled water in the Midwestern winter (for other reasons) that I like.

Vicki who is this 'we' that didnt like those original prints? 😂 I thought a couple of them were beautiful in the original.... But, the final results are super too! Love your color combos! Aka palettes...❤

Thank you, an excellent question, Miranda! You make a valid point, as have others mentioned, the prints may have only been unsatisfactory to me 🙃...that said, there is of course still an opportunity here to reach for more, as I always seem to be doing!

Hi! I’m wondering: what paper are you using for your prints? It sounds so crinkly.
@VikkiReed
@VikkiReed Жыл бұрын
Leslie, lol, yes! It is rice paper, everything I use, I list in the Supply List in the information below the video, just press the down arrow. The rice paper is my choice when I plan to collage into mixed media work because it IS so thin and basically melts into my pieces. Thank you for your question!
