The slow initial tip in for the Ecoboost from a dig is turbo lag. In addition, the stock tune for the Ecoboost is very conservative. The advantage in performance goes to the R/T off the showroom floor. However, the Ecoboost is highly tunable. Change the downpipe, install a larger intercooler, and tune it, the Ecoboost becomes a high 11 second car. The total cost for these mods is only about $3,000. It will give a stock Scat Pack a good race in the quarter mile. Getting the R/T in the high 11s either requires a supercharger or ported heads, cam, exhaust, and 392 intake. The Ecoboost has far superior handling over the R/T. The sticker price for Ecoboost is about the same as a Challenger with the V6 Pentastar engine. The R/T rides better than the Ecoboost and has a far better exhaust note. The Ecoboost sounds like a fart can.

where are u living and where are ur sources coming from? Ecoboost with the active exhaust from 2018+ sounds very clean.
@hu3.7893 жыл бұрын
@@BrayZap - There is no comparison when comparing the sound of a 4 cylinder with a V8. The exhaust note of an 8 cylinder is superior to 4 and 6 cylinder engines. I say that as the owner of a V6 Mustang. The only Ecoboost that sounds almost tolerable belongs to a friend of mine who added an MBRP cat back. As crappy as the stock exhaust sounds, the active exhaust is even worse. The quieter you can keep those cars the better. If I ever bought an Ecoboost, I would disconnect the fake sound that is pumped through the speakers. The second thing I would do is add resonators. Sound is a matter of taste. I think the Ecoboost Mustang sounds like sh*t and you can't convince me otherwise.

Great review RacerX. I've actually been curious about this lately. I've been looking at challengers lately and I was surprised at the 0 to 60 on the R/T considering the HP, but the weight has always been just to much. The proof of that is comparing it to the Ecoboost Mustang. I have a 2017 premium Mustang Ecoboost (stock) and I usually get anywhere between 6.0 and 5.4. For the price of the R/T and the HP, it should be way faster than a 4 cylinder turbo. Less than a second apart could come driver skills in a race. I'm not bias in any way, I love all cars. My other car is a convertible Z51 C6 Vette. 28hp more HP and same torque as the Challenger R/T, but the 0 to 60 is 4.0 stock. If they could only shed some weight from the challenger. I love the comparison videos!!!

@CaptainZap793 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, RacerX! I was excited to see you have this comparison. For the first time I feel like I have more experience than you! 😉 I bought a new R/T (Auto) in late 2008 and drove it for 9 years. Then I bought a lightly used 2015 Mustang EcoBoost Premium Convertible which I'm still driving today. I can't find fault with anything you said in the video. The R/T was about a half second faster to 60 than the Mustang. I have to TRY to get wheelspin with the Mustang, I had to try NOT to with the R/T. You can do burnouts in the EcoBoost, but you have to prime the Turbos. It'll do it, but you gotta want it! The only thing I don't like about the Mustang is the sound. It's horrible. Made worse when the top is down and you can't help but hear it. But the cornering is amazing! The only complaint I ever had about my R/T was that it didn't like hot weather. That's a problem here in Alabama. It was sluggish on any 90+ degree day, but when the temp dropped below 60 you better hang on! Bottom line is that I miss my Challenger and I'm saving up for a Scat Pack. The Mustang is my first convertible and I wanted to scratch that itch, but now I want my HEMI back! I'm hoping the Scat Pack's extra hundred horsepower will make up for the R/T's hot weather limitations. I want that 60 degree feeling year-round!

I have a manual ecoboost, I have no problems hitting 5.3-5.6 consistently. If you know how to rip the gears, I think that’s the better pairing with the turbo-4. Even with traction control on, it’ll lay a patch of rubber 40 ft long and chirp tires coming in to second AND third gear. The other day, I had to punch it to get onto the expressway, and even with a 50 mph rolling start, it spun tires when I downshifted to third and dumped the clutch. If the old school dudes would give it a chance and learn how to make a turbo work for them, I think they’d LOVE the 6-speed turbo pony. But not a lot of people in MY generation can. I’m just lucky my poppop taught me how to drive in a manual.

I have a 2019 challenger TA in f-8 green which I bought new. It is faster than my 68 GTO and my 73 455 Pontiac Trans Am by a lot, plus it got 27 mpg going 70 plus on a road trip. Love the challenger, dodge got it right.
@728GT3 жыл бұрын
Ford really nerfs the eco boost if you don’t put 93 octane fuel in it. I was getting 5.4 0-60 stock. I also have drag mode unlike that base eco you were driving. When I drove the 5.7 I felt like it hit a wall at higher speeds. But obviously the 5.7 wins in the sound department.
@jairogarciajr.70933 жыл бұрын
If you play around with the buttons on the steering wheel of the mustang you'll find that there's an option to record your 0-60 time ( u dont need your phone) , it also records your all time best 0-60. I do 5.6 - 5.9 0-60 on my STOCK mustang ecoboost easily, on literally every try. My recorded all time best 0-60 is 5 5. I agree that the v8 sound is unmatchable but the 0-60 comparison is a very very close one between these two.

I was using a 2006 RAM 1500 Big Horn w/3:73's on 20" rims to pull our 9k lb camper. I wanted to upgrade and the Ford salesman told me he had a 2012 F150. I asked what engine, he said a V6. I laughed. He said what? It will out pull your current truck. I scoffed (I didn't know anything about an Ecoboost yet) and said where is the spec sheet. When he returned with the spec sheet I couldn't believe it. Then he told me it was twin turbo. So I upgraded. And boy, was he right. That truck DID outperform my RAM in every aspect EXCEPT one; The exhaust tone. haha

Thiat Mustang appears to be the regular Eco Boost, not the HPP (High Performance Package). The HPP would be a more interesting comparison IMHO. I really dig the R/T. I know people seem to prefer the Scat Pack and I dig that too, but the R/T doesn't get the respect it deserves as it is no slow poke.

As a Mustang fanboy, I have to admit the Ecoboost does not sound good at all. I have heard good sounding four cylinders before. Nissan's SR20 and Mitsubishi's 4G63 come to mind. I was actually surprised by how badly it sounded when I first heard it.
@nightwolf97233 жыл бұрын
@Jason M. What exhaust are you running?
@nightwolf97233 жыл бұрын
@Jason M. I'm 44 and run a Borla S-Type on my 5.0. Louder than stock, not so loud that it's annoying. Ford tunes their stock exhaust on the quiet side because Mustangs have such a wide fan base. I've changed the stock exhaust on all the Mustangs I've had over the years. I've heard Ecoboost Mustangs with stock exhaust, Ford Performance, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, even a Chinese made titanium exhaust. Nothing sounded good. I'd buy a new one if they offered it with the 2.7 V6 Ecoboost. I couldn't careless less where it's made. Remember the Mustang is only assembled in the United States. A lot of the parts in your Mustang come from Chinese suppliers. Don't believe me. Look it up. All that said, sound is subjective. Peace.

It boils down to longevity and what you plan to actually use it for. For the average joe who wants decent mileage but a little pep in its step the eco boost is the way to go. For the car guy that wants a badass sounding engine that’ll last probably twice as long and outperform the eco boost in every way shape and form when it comes to the aftermarket options and power than the V8 is the way to go. For the racing type dudes who don’t have much to spend and want a long lasting vehicle go with the R/T. If the cam bearings and lifters go bad spend the extra cash and go with upgraded lifters and a bigger cam. Solves pretty much the only issue the R/T has, other than being an electronic nightmare when they age lol.

The in-car timer on my Challenger RT is... very optimistic. It says my best 0-60 time was 2.3 seconds. Only thing I can think of is that it got confused when I was doing a burnout in front of the local "rev my engine for three hours at the ass-crack of dawn while trying and failing to work on it" guy's house at 3:30am.
