The "love triangle" had a resurgence in popularity during the Romantic period (late 18th to early 19th century). The difference: the love affairs were emotional/spiritual rather than sexual. I hated it. I was stuck in another town with 4h to kill before I went to the airport, and I still regret seeing this movie. The characters are horrible, the plot is weak, the character growth of each character is lacking, the timeline jumps around, and the direction is pretty bad. None of the tennis matches have any tension in them because it is hard to follow the game - and this is from someone who plays tennis! (Pro-tip, if you want to make a movie about great tennis matches, watch some of the historic great matches for reference!) I would be very surprised if the director had ever seen a sports movie before, because there was no build up and tension in the matches - which was a central part of the movie. Happy Gilmore had more sport tension in than this waste of time. The POV choices were nauseating. For one match only, you see the game from the players POV, and from another you see the match from the POV of the ball! It was sickening, and I had to look away. The music was dreadful! Any time the director wanted something significant to happen this terrible drum beat started up and assaulted my brain. It was a slap in the face for any nuance. And the last scene dragged out with too much slow motion - it made the whole movie ten minutes longer than it needed to be. I almost said ‘screw it’ and walked out with 10 minutes left it was so painful. And the end was so unsatisfying with zero resolution. Sadly, it could have been a great movie if any one of the multiple themes were explored just a little bit more. 2 male friends discovering their love for each other while juggling competition and marriage OR a broken champion living vicariously through their partner, who doesn’t share the same ability or passion OR a women that had a choice and live to regret picking the wrong man OR the sacrifices professional sports people have to make to get to the top. None of those were explored in any depth. Instead we had Toshi (?) being a bitch and telling everyone else that they weren’t good enough for her. If anyone invites me to this movie, I am going to book a dentist appointment as an excuse not to go.

I do understand that we are getting a lot of SJW tripe, but that's still not all films, and maybe the director had a point to say about human behavior with this movie, sort of like Fatal Attraction or Audition. My point is that yes, there's a lot of SJW junk out there, but it shouldn't get to the point that everyone starts to think that every film that might have themes of feminism and homosexuality or sexual rivalries are part of an agenda instead of a director wanting to do something different.

Right from the get go I went: Everyone is awfully pushing Zendaya really hard. I bet you the guys are gay. Bait and switch probably. Hollywood is so predictable. The marketing was told. Do not pull a Bros movie.

Unlikeable characters do not diminish the merit of a film. How do you guys even call yourselves film critics?

My Opinion, Zendya is not really a Femme Fatale type actress. Her goofy aloof awkward character work is her best. Of course no actor wants to be typecast, and of course the young actresses want to go full sexy for their careers at some point. It's there progression in a sense that has been done countless times for many decades, I get it. But to me, she is not that type not physical actress.

Yeah, I was not pleased with this movie. I wasn't planning to watch it, but after hearing good things, I thought I'd give it a try. I could not stand Zendaya's character, she was so heartless in a movie that is supposed to HAVE heart. If tennis is all you care for, don't get in a relationship 😂 I wish the two guys would have gotten tohether, or that they all went their separate ways. I just get so triggered by infidelity and cheating that I hated it.

From all the millions of gorgeous american women why is Zendaya a leading lady? She is not pretty and not such a talented actress.

I've been seeing these trailers for months now. Every time, it feels like a fake movie, for lack of a better phrase. Like I can't imagine the audience that wouldn't be bored; the trailer is overlong and dull every time.

Is it possible to review these films without the spoilers? Come on guys! 🙄

What is the point of this movie existing if it doesn't leave anything positive for the world? Zendaya could of still made a movie about tennis, it could of been uplifting & transformative. But the end result was this. From the trailer, I knew this movie would turn me off.
