@@Martin-ht1gs Kipping in a muscle up is proper form. Strict muscle ups are a completely different exercises and much rarer than a standard muscle up. In fact a lot of people who don't look like they're kipping are often still abusing momentum slightly.

I will bring my trained Chimpanzee down and absolutely humiliate all of these fitness folks. Humble pie time. He can do a boat load of one handed pull ups no problemo. He can hang for 30 minutes or more no problemo. He can one handed and beat these times. He doesn't do Muscle Ups, he will do Muscle-Ups / Launch Overs and come back for dozens more.
@TGShunai2 жыл бұрын
@Heath Sims The reason I said his form looks ridiculous was indeed mainly his legs, but in the end of the day they are part of the form of this movement. Did he do a good job? Yes, doing 17 MU even with this form is something most people can't do. But that doesn't mean his form was good, it was (in my eyes) still quite bad.
@TGShunai2 жыл бұрын
@Heath Sims Yeah, the first guys last few reps didn't count either in my opinion, youre right on that. Still, the only thing that I call a good form MU is a strict one, no use of leg momentum, etc. So from my perspective the second guy has bad form (because even if he keeps his legs together, he still uses them to create momentum upwards). Maybe that's because I am a perfectionist. As I said, he did a good job because most people can't even do MU with the form he used, but that doesn't make it good form. It wouldn't count as a single rep in a competition for example. That's the standard I uphold for myself anyway.

@r2l100 Looks like not one put in effort to fighting muscle failure. None of them had cramped hands afterwards, shaking hard, etc... You see nobody compensating for the slipping in their forearms, just giving into the slip. (Otherwise you'd see them try to curl their wrists to compensate. 22:38 is an exagerration of what I mean, but he's not quite at fatigue. Those two definitely did push, but one of them is w/ magnus and there's obviously something about the other, he's not just any rando.) She didn't necessarily go to it either, but being 66 and going like 2x as long as a bunch of youngins is enough to consider she pushed way farther mentally. Especially considering her stoic form. Amazing. Also consider as a woman, shes at a natural disadvantage with arm/grip strength...(Although, as gretchen, with those arms, compared to some of those lanky guys, nu-uh) I think I heard her say she was military? Makes sense, she got the kahones.

Years ago when I was a recess teacher I inadvertently started a hang challenge on the preschool/kindergarten (and the occasional 1st & 2nd gr classroom) playground. Over the course of the year, the champion was a 4-year-old preschooler. She hung for 4 minutes, 22 seconds. It was unreal.

We’d be 7 hours out in all kinds of weather, from freezing to sweat running down your back, pouring rain, snow, whipping wind, you name it. You got to have great conversations with kids, but you also were mommy to 500-700 kids, dealing with one ridiculous problem to the next (“Johnny looked at my shoe!!” “Susie won’t play with me”), correcting the same kid over the same playground rule for the 8th time that day, everyday….. Most days were a lot of fun, but many were just exhausting, physically, yes, but mostly emotionally. I LOVED the hanging bar on that playground. Years later they got rid of it, as well as several other toys (monkey bars, a tall slide, fireman’s pole and swings) because we went from just our own autonomous preschool to state-accredited day care and they deemed those toys too dangerous for that age group. Didn’t matter that kids had been perfectly fine for 12 years on those toys, building strength, coordination and courage, often times with our help…..ugh, don’t get me started on over regulation and unnecessary coddling. So annoying.

Perfect exemplification of the stereotype, what a good type to be if you're gonna type it up at all. I'm sure he's got tons more nuance to him than the 2D surfer, but yeah... he does do them a proud justice either way. But by far, the coolest dude was buff Kylo Ren there... he beat Magnus, did a great job hanging, and was hell of a specimen overall. Congrats man!

Way to go Magnus! I admire your strength and fortitude in this challenge, not to mention your epic free solo climb with the legendary Alex Honnold. Well deserved kudus!

These are not muscleheads exercises though, the heavy one would be is so much disadvantages

I suspect a large part is many people declining immediately thinking it's some kind of scam (notice some asked if there was a buy-in). It's LA after all. And then there's a lot of meatheads who don't want to be humiliated on camera, and would only participate at something they know they are going to win.

The "dead hang" world record of 16 minutes that Brandon refers to has since been broken. The old record of 16 minutes and 3 seconds was OBLITERATED and now stands at 1 hour, 20 minutes and 41 seconds!

Hangs are harder than most people realise. Always irks me when you see someone in a movie hanging by one hand with another person hanging off him, for like a minute, lol.

Before Magnus became "famous" youtuber he did over 20 muscle ups after a climbing session on video.

The technique of the muscle up winner was to loosen his grip and open his hand at the top which gave his grip an extra edge, a break for a quick second. After all, we saw from the hanging challenge that grip is the first thing to go! :) Great video guys!

It's always the unassuming ones that achieve the most - never judge a book by its cover... Great video, Magnus - mainly here for the climbing content, but love these 'fun' videos a tonne!

The first guy doing the muscle ups had good form. After being an elite gymnast when was younger I normally dont like peoples muscleups due to their form and cheating using swings but all he needs to do is straighten the legs, legs tighter together and point them toes. Mags muscle ups at the end with the left arm first then the right arm flooded me with memories from training, not being allowed to stop untill you fall during an attempt. Love it

My girlfriend and I tried indoor climbing for the first time and the catalyst was me finding you on KZbin! I had a lot of fun and did much better than I thought I would for my first time. I had no idea that there was even a gym like that around where I live!

Interesting how many peopled dropped after you told them they made 1 minute. It would be an interesting experiment to see how much longer people last when you don't read their times to them.
@essie23la2 жыл бұрын
no time reading at all I think they might last shorter, since there's no clear goal to focus on, but reading the time slower than it actually is I think people might last longer (eg. saying 40 seconds when it's actually a minute)
@Draehir2 жыл бұрын
@@essie23la it is more effective to say shorter times but it's even more effective to push them for a time, and when they get close change it to be a little further. encouragement and shame are the 2 best motivators in training generally
@dubmob1512 жыл бұрын
Funnier if you start reading the times in an increasingly strained voice to make them more aware of how hard it's getting 😉

I think my favorite part is just all these people from different walks of life doing the hanging challenge, muscle ups are intimidating but just about anyone can hang onto a bar

You should do a leaderboard style challenge where if someone manages the best time among people who compete, they win a prize. That would make for some better hangs!
