When I saw the grappling was on their knees and mostly upper body, definitely was thinking that was time for Magnus to shine. Great comradery and the instructor in the end didn't show any ego. Challenge coin definitely earned.
@skunk_ink3954
@skunk_ink3954 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they are wrestling on their knees for Magnus's benefit. You can see in the very first fight the marines starting on their feet. However Magnus doesn't have the same leg strength or martial arts training as these marines do. So to put Magnus against one of these marines starting on foot wouldn't be a fair fight. By restricting the fight to knees only, the marines are being handicapped while giving Magnus the benefit of his upper body strength. This does not discredit Magnus's win though. I can tell you that marine was truely fighting. Magnus almost choked out a marine and that is no easy thing. Mad respect for that. If this fight started on foot however, I think Magnus would have little to no chance. He is a world class rock climber who has conditioned his body for climbing. These marines are world class level athletes who have conditioned their bodies for survival in a fight. In a on foot, no holds barred fight, the marines would win 10/10 times. On a timed wall climb, Magnus would win 10/10 times.
@Ramdapanda
@Ramdapanda Жыл бұрын
@@skunk_ink3954 I think that's far fetched as I highly doubt marines only practice grappling with the sense of a clean fight. If they don't know how to win when they go down on their knees than they would be screwed in real life situations and I don't think the difference in the type of leg strength used in grappling is big enough in this scenario for the marines to win every single time with a standing start. Totaly agree that they wouldn't stand a chance in a timed wall climb though, same as Magnus probably wouldn't hold much of a candle in a heavy march exercise.
@skunk_ink3954
@skunk_ink3954 Жыл бұрын
@@Ramdapanda I wasn't implying that marines don't train in every situation. What I was saying is that the marines have far stronger legs than Magnus does. There for allowing legs to be used in this would put Magnus and a huge disadvantage. By bringing the fight to only their knees it brings things to a much more even level. While the marines are still far more trained at grappling than Magnus is. Magnus has far superior upper body strength than the marines. This allows Magnus to make up for his lack of fighting experience by virtue of his insane grip strength. So I was only trying to say that fighting on their knees makes the fight more fair. Not that it makes them equals.
@samvalentine9243
@samvalentine9243 3 ай бұрын
@@skunk_ink3954some of the Marines also started kneeling though...it's just inherently safer to start that way. It's the same in jiu jitsu. Beginners usually don't know how to fall properly so it's safer to ease into stand up grappling. Magnus did well here because he focused on controlling the head. His strength helped of course but technique is key in grappling, just like climbing.
@cryptonfa6529

I think many really dont't really get how incredibly fit you need to be a world class climber. It was super impressive to watch yet not surprising to me considering how strong you gotta be to do the kind of stuff Magnus does. I am a pretty good climber and in good shape and he s a superhuman to me

Magnus' strength from climbing helped a LOT when he got both arms around the instructor's head. It must have felt like a vice grip clamping down. All his climbing muscles were used in full effect there, and you could see how the instructor was struggling against those holds. I remember the video with the Norwegian army where Magnus did 60kg+ pullups, which outdid even the super fit Evan. Those were the same muscles in full effect. Without much (if any) martial arts training, that just goes to show how leveraging the right muscles and strengths can overcome training. Well done Magnus, that was super impressive man! Mad respect.

He’s a Purple Heart recipient from injuries from Afghanistan and has many combat tours underneath his belt from the infantry life, which you would never know since he’s a real humble dude. Any Marine that comes across his path will learn what real leadership is from this guy. Doesn’t care about bs but will train his Marines for what needs to be known for combat. The Marines know how to get people into shape. My nephew signed up for the Marines at the end of high school but kept postponing his entry. He finally told us he couldn't do the required 3 pullups to get in, he couldn't even do 1. I took him to the gym for many weeks & he was able to do the required 3 pullups & he shipped out to Camp Pendleton 90 miles south from where we live. Our family went to his graduation & almost didn't recognize him. He went into boot camp @ 217 lbs. & graduated @ 170 lbs! They assigned him to work with a Marine recruiter before shipping out to Japan. One of his assignments was to go to "Angel Stadium" & demonstrate pullups prior to the baseball game. He went from not being able to do any pullups to doing pullup demonstrations showing how fit Marines are. :)

What honestly impresses me most is you still being able to listen an comprehend what is said to you while you are under extreme stress (physically and biologically speaking); your brain is deprived of oxygen and reduces its function to the bare minimum: survive. At 15:20 you still listen to the "protect your head". For me, having an illness of the lung, after about five minutes of breathtaking work, my brain shuts right off. I'll do what was asked of me before I started, but you'll have to physically stop me from doing that very thing as vocal commands don't reach my brain anymore. Of course, at some point I'll gladly stop on my own from exhaustion. So, props to you and your fitness - both when it comes to your body and your mind (at least as far as one can differentiate them in such circumstances).

I can easily see why these guys would trust each other 100% in any life and death situation. Really quite the group of awesome gentlemen.

These Marines were hand picked and Magnus was able to hang with them in their expertise. Truly impressive. Good job Marines and Magnus!

Well yeah, they needed people who could form coherent sentences and look good on camera.

@@thomasbecker9676 they only needed one to form coherent sentences. The rest were picked with the intention of not letting Magnus whoop them on camera...which he did anyway hahaha

you realize you will truly never see these marines at their natural mindset to win on camera?! That's because you will never see the higher ranking marines scream and Put these intense marines on real life pressure just for little KZbin views I am telling you this as a marine myself. It's way different for training without cameras no offense but a recruit can literally smoke this guy not because they are fitter but because they have something at stake getting fucked up by drill instructors

@@chinopopapill5848 Chill out. Just respect the effort everybody there put in. Magnus did great and the Marines in the video represented themselves and the organization well.
