Here’s THE problem with millionaires and billionaires, like Chamath…These tools dish out advice as though they’ve solved life’s Algebra problem. And when he talks, like he is here, speaking as though his thoughts and words are of such magnitude and what not…Fact is, you could CREATE a homeless person or a 1st year high school student this “wealthy” and they will also have the same sense of self-importance as Chamath does…yet…he’s just a fool like you.

"Success" is subjective to the individual's wants/needs. To someone who is materialistic, making more money is their definition of being successful. To others, its just having the comfort of their loved ones near them.

Having met and worked with a few highly successful people I have noted that they have a level of tenacity and belief in an idea that surpasses anyone I’ve met before. I know in myself that I don’t have that drive or resilience and am happy. I find my success elsewhere

@@anirudhkannan9 I work in the film industry. Would you be willing to spend 10 years of your life to get your story to screen. Would you bet every cent you own plus money borrowed from friends, family and investors to make it happen all the time knowing it’s unlikely to be successful? If you fail would you try again, and again. I have heard stories like this multiple times from “successful” people. Are ready to be trolled and persecuted as a failure? It’s not for me!

Dependent upon your choice of use, a Fair Use argument can potentially defend your use of content created by someone else. This should be noted though, Fair Use is not a permission slip...Fair Use is an often very successful legal defense in the western world (and specifically: the USA)

@py_a_thon

@@MorphingReality The private sector of free speech often does not allow one to ask permission to use content for the purposes of 'satire, commentary and unique derivative works that add value to the world'. (My bad. I actually forget the exact sentence. That is the gist of the arg though.) Basically, unless you know someone who knows lex fridman, then you will never have the opportunity to ask to use his content. Also, he is not a musician. He is a socially significant speaker of words in the private sector. US Law specifically has conditional arguments backed up by precedent for this purpose. That is where fair use comes into play, in terms of legality. If you want to be 100% legal and not even deal with fair use of content, then just perfectly transcribe the words and read the words with your own voice and perhaps with text on the screen. You are unassailable in that form so long as you do not misrepresent the words of others. (ie slander, bullshit, lies or something else that causes civil or criminal culpability)

Grigori Perelman was successful at solving one of the millenium puzzles. According to the stringent definitions of society defining success, he would be a fool and a failure. He solved an absurdly complicated problem(based on someone elses seminal work, he proofed the Poincare Conjecture, explicitly), he then refused to accept a million dollar prize, and then asked to be left alone. People define success differently. Society attempts to impose definitions upon you. You can decline.

Also Elon wasnt exacly poor at the start which give a lot of options to have an impact on the world. His dad owned an emerald mine... TBH if I had a milion to start I probably would just chill for most of my life. People that have the option and still choose to do meaningfull hard stuff is just so rare. Chamath was probably right yoi have like 50 people on the world with those options (financial and intellectual) and still do so many sacrifices. Elon deserves all the credit and we should be very greatfull for what he does.

Success requiere a level of discipline and drive /hard work towards a pursuit that most ppl just don't have. If I gave you 100 million tomorrow you would not invest it in a business. You would retire and spend it on bottles and models. The guy that achieved the level of success where ppl talk about you is not doing that. He's still working 12 hour days...or more.
