Gustav Mahler (transcription Clytus GOTTWALD): Rückert-Lieder - 4. Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen
Ave Chamber Choir was founded in 1984 in the parish Ljubljana-Vic as the Ave Vocal Ensemble. Under the artistic leadership of the founder Andraz Hauptman the vocal ensemble soon outgrew their home parish and with quality performances of diverse choir music captivated audiences in Slovenia as well as abroad. At the same time the vocal ensemble expanded into chamber choir with singers from all over the country. The choir received numerous awards and plaques for their outstanding performances; it has won one or more first prizes at 13 choral competitions. The choir received the most recent international recognition as a finalist at the prestigious competition "European Grand Prix for Choral Singing 2010" in Varna, Bulgaria, where it placed by winning the International Choral Competition in Maribor in spring 2009. AVE gained the award of the city of Ljubljana (1994), The award of the Preseren Fund (1994), The plaque of the city of Ljubljana (2000) and a silver plaque awarded from the Association of Cultural Societies (2002). Ave partook as a demonstration choir in several seminars on choral music and an international competition for young choral conductors. The choir collaborated with respected conductors Eric Ericson (Sweden), Gary Graden (Sweden) and Martina Batic (Slovenia). Ave Chamber Choir released several cassettes and CDs of diverse music and has recently published a new double CD "Ave Live" with recordings from recent concerts and competitions.
Artistic leader of the choir since May 2011 is Jerica Gregorc Bukovec.
Ave remains one of the most renowned vocal ensembles in Slovenia and Europe. We look in the future with inextinguishable desire for superb performance of choral music.

I love Mahler - and I can't quite understand why some of the comments here are so negative. It seems a fresh take on a transcendently beautiful song to me. Not an easy piece to do a cappella - so I give them credit for a very nice performance. Now . . . It seems clear to me that the video was recorded separately from the performance, and the two were merged for this presentation. The sound and echoes and intonation all hint that it was recorded in a a concert hall and then merged with the video.

It might help to know what this piece is about. Simply, Mahler says he is lost (dead) to the tumult of the world and living in his own love, his own heaven, his own song. The slow walking may be symbolic of him strolling through the world at his own pace in a peaceful state, unaffected by the world around him. It's beautiful and meditative.

Marvelous! Some people are a little narrow minded here and like to say what you can or can't do with a song. Songs are like eggs - serve them how you like them! However, Mahler devotees will know that the opening and ending of the song are almost the same as the famous Adaggieto of Mahler's fifth symphony which was used in the movie, 'Death in Venice' and also played by Bernstein at Kennedy's funeral. It was written as a love song to Mahler's wife but has become associated more with death than love. For me both the song and the symphonic movement are incredibly serene, deeply absorbing meditations on a love that makes you forget the outer world and its turmoil.

What a difficult piece it must have been to transcribe for choir. Let it stand on its own merits. It's clear that some people prefer a more static (standing still) setting for choirs, and I can appreciate the context of walking to the outdoor environment. Superior blend and balance between the vocal parts. Phrasing, breath control & diction all above average.

it is not really a transcription. Mahler himself set it for choir (he liked recycling his own music).

What is the significance of walking for this song? Accentus' video has walking also. Very puzzling.

One cannot reduce MAhler to a glorified church choir; I am so very sorry. The walking in scene, the set up, the faces, the voices, the style nothing fits! Thumbs Down.

I disagree! Mahler loved the human voice, many of his other works even symphonies, had singing...Symphony #2 had huge choruses as well as several soloists!!!! Symphony of a Thousand had lots and lots and lots of singers!!!! Thus, the name.
