There's literally nothing wrong with the LoL characters. The showwriters didn't "stray away" with them, the took a look at their stories and went "allright, how can we give compelling and fitting backstories to those characters people love"? LOL Vi was too hamfisted with the whole cool shaved hair tough girl persona. In Arcane, she's still has a tough way about her, but that's because she's angry at the topsiders. She channels that anger into something productive, like being a leader to her siblings while still being impatient and short tempered. LOL Jinx’s insanity made her a knock off Harley Quinn with no real rhyme or reason behind it other than for the manic pixie dream girl trope. In Arcane, they channel that insanity into something actually tangible. A trauma response to all the death and violence she's seen since childhood. Not to mention Vi's outburst and abandonment.

A friend tried to get me into LOL a couple of years ago, I played it a couple of times but couldn't get me hooked because it seemed like a version of Warcraft 3 (I'm from the time of that video game when I was a teenager XD) but much more repetitive. Basically LOL is summarized in doing the same loop millions of times, at least in Warcraft 3 one can build a "settlement", explore the map... (but even with more things to do and more units to control at once, it became repetitive after not long) but there is the story mode in which you really see the characters developing in a context and you see what the personality of the heroes/champions is like, more than just a few phrases and a couple of paragraphs from a biography written somewhere. The Arcane animated series is quite excellent, and as one would expect it only took the concepts of certain characters from LOL and deepened them much more, giving them coherence with the world and between the characters themselves. LOL is just a virtual miniatures tabletop wargame, but a bit more like a Tic Tac Toe, while Arcane is plot and narrative with meaning.

It should be said that LoL have never tried to be particularly deep or profound. LoL has always been cartoonish and straightforward and I think people forget that that is not a bad thing. Not everything needs to be super developed and thought out, it's ok to just be simple and fun. And before people rip into me, that's not a critique about Arcane it's just saying that neither is better than the other. LoL is cartoonish and slapsticky, never bothering to be more than zany. Arcane is a serious take on those characters, with depth and fleshed-out character motivations that tries real hard. Both are good, it's just their intentions that differ.

I will say, viktor’s game design is one that I genuinely adore (speaking as someone who is not a fan of the game and purely knows the game characters as visual designs), and I do hope that it gets adapted in some capacity in the future. But if he ends up looking like that in future seasons… he’ll probably become my favourite character in the show on the spot.

I mean, it's really just a matter of media and preferences. Obviously, for arcane they decided to give the characters a more complex and expanded backstory, but there's nothing wrong with what they have/had in the game (also, their designs are perfectly fine, I don't understand the diss at that; plus, it' New 52's Harley Queen who is a bootleg Jynx, not the other way around). The show did great, but making stuff "deeper" isn't always gonna cut it. The same way you can get Arcane or the Ashe comic, you could get Annie's current lore. It's just a matter of execution, nothing else.

Vi being a proper cop rather than reluctantly working with law enforcement because it seemed the best idea at the time (presumption for season 2 of Arcane, so no spoilies there) just feels so out of character in-game now that we have what is meant to be the new proper main canon lore.

I mean, when I read the _OLD_ old lore, I liked it. Arcane is just different, and that's also fine. I think the original character designs were a bit cooler, and they also look older there (they probably are), but I overall liked Arcane and I'm looking forward to seeing the next season.

Jinx doesnt look much like Harley Quinn. Being a crazy woman isnt exactly exclusive to Harley. The closest character for her is the Joker and she still doesnt look like him obviously.

Harley was still popularily red and black last I checked. If anything, DC seemed to have copied Jinx instead. Obviously not really the case, but still. Her style and arsenal is ALSO nothing like Harley. You are likely comparing Harley now to Jinx. Harley today and Jinx look a lot similar for whatever reason. They are still different. And she isnt a complete ripoff of the Joker either if you say Joker. The only real similarities is the skin color and her craziness. Either way, two characters being similar isnt what "ripoff" means. You can technically say Harley is also a ripoff by this logic since her character is based on Arleen Sokin who played a jester (the name is even the same) so, not very original now, are we?

@@bohanxu6125 nope she had a lot if you know where to look cuz a lot of her old lore was rebooted (3 times) if I remember correctly, In her old lore she explored Zaun alone, she was a private detective with a good relationship with her parents, Her father gave her a hextech rifle because she went to pew pew criminals at 14, her parents were kidnapped (in one version they were murdered) and she went in a frenzy in zaun looking for who did it (C), Caitlyn rejected every time the wardens wanted to give her the position of sheriff because she knew they were corrupt, she went to other regions to investigate cases, when she accepted the job of sheriff she did it out of selfishness to find C (Corina veraza) who she managed to capture in LOR. She didn't know vi until she joined the enforcers but there were many times when the relationship was hinted at (Caitlyn also showed interest in Leona in Battle Academy)..she also work with the chembarons 👀 I know this because I was main Caitlyn in 2014-2020 lol her writers where people who worked in Warhammer that riot fired lol so I was livid when they confirmed that arcane's lore was canon now...I really hoped that Viktors n Jace lore was the same cuz it was more dark.
