I agree with the notion that the NFL does a better job of putting on a show. That being said, it wouldn’t “feel” right if the champions league final was one big American style event. Perhaps it could be a more of a show but I would hate to see UEFA trying too hard to be like the NFL.

@@economicsofentertainment I tried to watch this last one and couldn't handle more than 20 or 30 minutes. The match stops each 10 seconds, the commercials are almost longer than the play time. It's bizarre and has no passion to it, it's just a spectacle

@@economicsofentertainment I'm from Brazil and I confirm that Uefa wins any day, I've never seen a super bowl but I watch every UCL final, and most of the people in Latin America, Africa and Europe also watch. No one gives a fuck about the Superbowl, American Football id shite and pales in comparison to any major football event, even the Copa Libertadores is more popular than the Superbowl

UCL Final. Event is associated with people, so I think the term biggest event means biggest number of people involve in an event. In this case, UCL is way bigger than NFL because nobody outside the US even know NFL. If you want to involve the money involved in it, the best term would be the biggest sporting economy. In that case, based on the data you provided, NFL wins. But again, I don't think anyone outside of the US even care about whatever sporting event happens there. I mean, it costs me around 1 USD for a Big Mac in my country while it is 5-6 in the US (according to Google). Why would anyone watch an overpriced US ad placements... ahem I mean "sport" if the GREATEST sporting event costs only a quarter to watch?

I am from Switzerland and I will say something very unpopular: I find Soccer very boring and I prefer American football. But I recognize that commercial breaks are a problem, fortunately I watch the matches in deferred mode, where there is the appearance of greater continuity. The problem is therefore not the sport itself, but rather how it is managed by the NFL.

Champions League is bigger and better. Super Bowl is too boring, too slow, and not enough action. And the only reason why the Super Bowl brings in more revenue is because of all the commercial breaks.

I watch both. The Super Bowl ist putting on a bigger show, no doubt. But when it comes to football/soccer, most people just care about what is happening on the pitch, it's more about the sport. And considering this, the UCL is by far the bigger thing. Because more people watch it even without a big show to gather attention.

Next season Champions League will have a new format resembling that of the NFL with one big league table and the games will be assigned to the clubs rather than played all of the clubs home and away.

Great video again. In terms of viewership (national/continental and global), UCL is bigger than NFL SB. However in terms of monetisation of that viewership, NFL SB is second to none. SB also has bigger "structural" support. But in terms of global reach, the NFL in general are not even close to the UCL. It seems like it is a matter of quality (NFL) over quantity (UCL)

Money argument is no argument, everything in America generates more money since dollar is a reserve currency, also look at some football superpowers like Spain, Italy an even Portugal as nations they are small markets compared to the USA. In my opinion what makes an event huge is the influence it has in the world, this is why UCL, UEL and Libertadores are bigger events than super bowl, and also the reason why football is biggest sport in the world and Cricket is probably the second.

NFL has 32 teams. They don't need to qualify. Champions League also has 32 teams but you need to qualify out 100s

@@economicsofentertainment true. Id say harder to have continued success, thats also due to the draft and a strict salary cap. The teams r just more equal by nature so the smallest moment makes the largest difference

Awesome video. I think the NFL is such a well oiled machine that for the champions league final to reach its level of intrigue, it'll take some time. Perhaps 10-20 years. But I don't think that is, or should be, the aspiration. Perhaps the Europeans can monetize their game better, but as for the show stuff, i'd rather do without personally. Maybe a little more show, but none something that overshadows the actual event.

Appreciate the love. I would tend to agree, I don't think i'd enjoy an overly Americanized champions league final either.
