Join LSU Head Coach Beth Torina as she teaches and demonstrates the pitching mechanics and drills that have helped the Tigers rank among the nation's best in ERA on an annual basis. Coach Torina's program starts at the ground level with the initial push to create forward motion and then moves into the stride, front side resistance, the arm circle and the wrist snap.

This is a great video and this was completely my issue. I had a really weird arm circle and my arm was extremely tight. The pitcher looks so effortless!

When your hips are facing towards the catcher before realease and that is one way you hit your hip when you pitch

Keep your hips sideways as you pitch, but as you release bring your hips towards the catcher. It helps speed

Hannah Hess tie a band around your shoulder so that it goes down in between your thumb and index finger. Then pitch the ball very slow and try to keep your arm straight

Daughter swings glove hand outward away from body .. with your pole barrier u mentioned glove hand possibly hitting the pole . Is that ok or should here glove hand also be within the barrier ? If not any suggestions on how to fix.

Her glove hand should stay between the barriers as well, if either hand swings out it throws off her balance forcing her to lean slightly to that side

@@denisecastaneda9491 I just thought about confining my pitcher with a barrier few days ago and boom your video pops up lol. I will try this. She throws to the right too much. Where u get the poles from?

When I used the wall [I used bleachers], I found it worked best if the beginning of the circle was away from the wall just a little, and then when the ball got over the head, it touched the wall all the way until release. I had my pitchers throw to the catchers using the wall and tried to get them to start about a foot away, and then close the gap and see if they could get to about 6" or less, away. It helped our team have 11 walks in each of two seasons of 28 total games/season where we won 22 games each season and made it to the state quarter finals. I like having the left shoulder of RH pitchers stay facing the middle of the LH batter's box as long as possible to create front side resistance. I agree with you that they will be able to field a ball actually better if the LH shoulder stays pointed at the middle of the LH batter's box, than if they finish facing the catcher, where they are more in danger. Do you recommend all your pitchers finish with the "upper cut" finish? I have found that finishing that way, makes it difficult to throw other pitches, especially screwball and change ups. Thanks for sharing on youtube. CoachUP.com/coaches/briang-12

Get with a coach that teaches you the helthiest way to pitch-with your body. Too many young players who get slower as they pitch and who have shoulder or elbow trouble. Check what they are teaching you with a physical therapist. Worth every dollar. Develop yourself physically as well. It will help your performance as well as keeping you healthy.

I have pitched for over 32 years and have been teaching softball pitching now for over 29 years and totally believe that pitching with a straight arm is TOTALLY wrong. This is so harmful to a shoulder and actually slow down arm speed
@danmeier9645
@danmeier9645 2 жыл бұрын
I believe she is talk about staying on the arm circle. Not having a straight are in the back. The elbow is bent on the back as is the wrist. She is not pitching with a straight arm. It is straight at release as is forearm fire.. Try using your arms to fly like a bird. There is plenty of looseness in the arm. If your are teaching the flip drop (don't know if you are) that should be the focus of preventing injury. Show that pitch to a physical therapist and see what they say.

Shane Kirschner they absolutely are. Hips should get to 45 degrees or so before release. It’s called brush interference.

How can a pitcher stop throwing inside balls and get more accurate?
@isabellegwaltney9925
@isabellegwaltney9925 6 жыл бұрын
Sydnee Scadden control your wrist and make sure your foot is straight towards the catchers glove. if you’re throwing inside pitches your foot is probably pointing that way. hope that helped!!

Make sure your hips get all the way through
@todddixon1850
@todddixon1850 6 жыл бұрын
Make sure you open up your hips when stride and stay disciplined on maintains straight posture hunched over posture is a big common problem. If your posture isn’t straight your probably going to hit your hip and make sure your striding straight to catcher landing front foot at a good 45 degree angle. Good drill is to pitch from the knees or start in the k position

Try to get them to speed up the arm to get the hand slightly in front of the hips at release. Your hips may have sped up (good thing) or as a girl gets older her hips get wider. Time to see if you can comfortably speed up the arm. Bet it works.
