Well done making of doc. Impressed how you built the shuttle in your living room. You're right about physical elements. It's one of the things I first noticed when I watched. The turbo lift scene benefited from the real background. I think Chance Encounter follows the true spirit of Star Trek. Not explosions and effects but characters and stories. And since I wasn't looking for Star Trek fan films when I came across it, it was indeed a "Chance Encounter" Thanks!

Holy crap! Now that I've seen the behind the scenes. You did this in your living room??!! Dude, Incredible. What you could do with a larger budget would be epic. When I saw that your story started as a non-scifi idea made me realize that you have even more in common with Gene Rodenberry's work on all his Star Trek episodes.

The actors, props and scenes is what impressed me. I am highly critical and detailed orientated person, but are more forgiving towards Fan Production. With FPSD, i didn't have to have any forgiving, because it was superb acting as servicemen and women. Noticing most of the actors had accents, i must assume, this is a Brit produce Star Trek and is much better than all the others. Please don't change.

Found Chance Encounter and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very well done! Then found this behind the scenes which I enjoyed as well. Great to see all the work that went into the making of your short film. Your hard work really showed in your script, story, and set development. Also your professionalism shows in this production. Everything from the background music to your filming was excellent . Well done to all involved. I look forward to seeing more from your group in the future. If I didn’t know it was a fan film I would have thought it was commercially made. Excellent work.

Well, if you ever decide to make another "episode", you really need to come to Los Angeles, because of the number of TREK fans here, and much extra materials lying around in the studios that you can use, most of this stuff just gets thrown in the trash, and the number of out of work special effects artists, such as myself, and other helpers that would help out on any production, just for the experiences! It really is a great place if you have little or no money for productions!

Hey, sorry for the slow reply - only just seen this. I borrowed them from the guy who runs my local car repair / MOT garage. From time to time he welds car seats on to a frame to use as chairs for his waiting area. (Only one of the ones I borrowed was welded, I had to jury rig the other one to a frame). I'm not sure, but I believe they were originally taken out of a BMW - not sure which model though.

Thanks for this video, it's great to see the hard work put into the film and how things were made and done. Do you know what fabric you used for the grey parts inside the shuttle? It looked really good and if it's relatively cheap and easy to get hold of I might use it for the Galaxy Class bridge in my film lol. Also any chance a blooper video for Chance Encounter will be uploaded in the future? Thanks :)
@FPSD
@FPSD 6 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't remember what fabric it was I'm afraid. Just whatever was workable looking and available in the shop! As I say in the vid, be sure not to buy online...! There's no blooper real in the works I'm afraid, we didn't really have enough suitable clips to justify one.
@camb99
@camb99 6 жыл бұрын
Ah that's okay, and yeah I won't be buying any online lol, I had a look in a shop yesterday to "familiarise" myself with fabrics as I don't have much knowledge on them lol, which was very helpful, so I should be able to find something that ticks both boxes of looks good and is affordable lol. It's a shame that there wasn't that many bloopers, although I'm sure not for when you were filming lol, but that's probably because you hired professional actors, my film on the other hand will star my friends so we will definitely have a lot of giggles lol. Thanks for the response :)
@camb99
@camb99 6 жыл бұрын
I've got another question lol, for the LCARs how did you go about making them? In the video you said that they "arrived" so did you go to a shop or service to have them made? Also how expensive was your method? Thanks :)
@FPSD
@FPSD 6 жыл бұрын
No worries :-) I designed the LCARS in Photoshop, and then had them printed professionally - that's what then "arrived" in a poster tube. You then need to mount them on some black plexi glass and back light them. Nothing's ever cheap of course, printing, VAT and delivery all add up, as does the plexi glass costs and of course whatever frame you make to mount them in. You also need lights behind of course, so yeah it all adds up!
@camb99
@camb99 6 жыл бұрын
Ah okay, so basically what Paramount did lol. It does seem quite expensive, but turns out looking great. Thanks :)

Watched the film a month or so ago. Nice to see this little behind the scenes video. It's obvious there is a passion for the project and Star Trek inparicular. I find the themes sad and telling of our society today. Marriage is bad and only stifles life. Men hold back woman when in a relationship This is a horrid way of thinking. A marriage is a partnership. Two people facing life together and working towards their goals together.

I only wish the current Trek offerings from CBS/Paramount were as engaged in human story telling as this project. Instead from them we see only sensationalist, flashy nonsense designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Trek without culture isn't Trek.
