This race is amazing for the tempest cleric. You can use point buy to get 16 in 3 stats (wisdom, constitution and strength) and 8 in the rest or 16 in 2 stats, a 14 in 1 and the rest 10. Combine this with the ability to get Booming Blade and you got a powerhouse of a cleric.

For a melee cleric like tempest/war or melee rogue like swashbucker the high half elf is amazing because you can get booming blade. Then with optional features you can get a +4 to stats. Did I mention dark vision? Saves the cleric from taking the light cantrip and who doesn’t want darkvision on a rogue.

As many said, the HUGE advantage of picking high half-elf is choosing booming blade and this works really well for all the classes that will have a single attack such as Cleric and Rogue, and many other melee that can use warcaster and capitalize the combo Opportunity Attacks + Cantrip -> damage of the weapon + effect of the booming blade + additional effect of the booming blade once the enemy moved. Quite cool ;)
