Dacob you're so awesome! I've recently subscribed and have learned so much about luxury brands and the history and culture. Do you think you'll ever do a video about how to purchase previously owned bags and what to look for buying Chanel second hand? How to know something you're purchasing is authentic? I'd be very interested to see that!

Thank you Macquel! :) I have done such a series on CHANEL vintage and new sunglasses but haven't done one on bags yet. I might make a video with that subject but the only vintage CHANEL bag I have is so different from what people usually look for that it might be a problem for me to show ou guys picture examples of what to look for... xoxo

Lovely video as always Dacob! SA at Chanel looked surprised when she saw my m/l classic flap from 2009, she commented how 'New' it still looked. I have carried it quite a bit but it's still a luxury bag made of leather not steel 😃 not made to be over stuffed, just your lipstick, mirror, tissue/handkerchief, keys and cash 🙄 If i want to carry the kitchen sink then i carry my leather or Nylon Longchamp. I do take care of my 'stuff' though.

Hi! I purchased a vintage Chanel medium flap and it doesn’t sit on its own (the bottom is deformed). Is there a way to repair/fix this or it’s better to return it?
@SuperDacob2 жыл бұрын
The reissue 2.55 or the timeless classic? This video is about the reissue 2.55. The reissue 2.55 is folded at the bottom so it does not stand up on its own unless you flatten out the bottom fold. Xoxo
@TheGummybears1012 жыл бұрын
@@SuperDacob the timeless classic flap. It’s vintage, almost 30 years old, and it’s no longer sitting up on its own. I’m wondering if there’s anyway to repair or correct the deformed shape of the leather? (I know for this flap in the video, it was made it have the bottom shape, however the bag I got has the deformed bottom.

Hi Dacob, I was wondering if you could help me? I'm currently considering picking up the bleach gold caviar coco handle but apparently it's built using soft caviar over the regular variation used for the classic flaps... Do you know if this is more likely to lose its shape too? If I'm spending so much I want the bag to maintain its shape as much as possible. Would love to hear your opinions
@SuperDacob7 жыл бұрын
Hi :) Unfortuantely I have no experience with the softer caviar nor do I have experience with the coco handle bag... Sorry... xoxo
@annevchen7 жыл бұрын
I agree the caviar is more fragile especially for the double classic flap. It's stiffer and the leather needs to be properly condition. I think in the case of reissue it depends what leather it comes out in that season. I have the medium reissue leather in caviar. The color is in fuchsia which I love so much! It's more structure then the distressed leather. My small black on black is distressed and like you mentioned is much softer. Nevertheless I take care of my bag like it's my children 😇

Hello Dacob, what is your opinion of the patent reissue, do u think its as sturdy as the calfskin?
@SuperDacob6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ann. No, the patent leather editions of CHANEL bags are not as sturdy as the aged calfskin. Patent leather in general is not my thing. Its too delicate and if in light colors, color transfer is practically a given. The lacquer finish is never really dry so prolonged contact with other objects can make it stick or leave traces on the bag's surface. The black patent is a bit less delicate as far as color transfer is concerned but it is still far more delicate and prone to damage than the aged calfskin version.

Super Dacob thank you so much. Thats why I love watching your videos very informative

Dacob I just watched this video for the first time I have a question for you what do you think of a patent leather reissue bag?
@jas92337 жыл бұрын
Hello Dacob!I love your videos because of your in-depth education on Chanel bags. I have learned quite a bit from you. I have a bit of a dilemma and was wondering if I could get your honest opinion. I sent some photos of the inside of my newest purchase - a black chanel reissue in medium with ruthenium hardware (the same bag as yours) from Rue Cambon in June of this year. I noticed an awkward and messy seam inside along the back pockets, wondering if it was normal. I emailed photos to Rue Cambon. It turns out, repairs at Rue Cambon have deemed it a defect and have offered me a direct exchange at my local boutique (I'm from Toronto). The only issue is that the medium reissue the boutique is offering for exchange is "made in Italy" and has been handled quite a bit in store, whereas the bag I originally have is "made in France." I'll admit that I originally wanted the larger size at Rue Cambon, but ended up getting the medium because it was "made in France" whereas the large bags I came across were all made in Italy. I emailed Rue Cambon back and asked if I could perhaps wait for a "made in France" piece to come in. Or, if I'm buying "made in italy" then I may as well exchange for the larger size and pay the difference. I know the country it is made in really doesn't matter, but I just wanted a made in France piece in my collection. What should I do? I can fit most of my things in the medium, but have to play Tetris when getting things in and out. Whereas with the larger size, I can put my things in without overstuffing. FYI: I plan for this to be an everyday bag. Thanks for your input!
@SuperDacob7 жыл бұрын
Great that you got Rue Cambon involved so fast and that they responded in your favor so promptly! Congratulations on that success! As for the "maxi" 2.55. About 90% of the 2.55 maxi reissues are made in Italy. It is very rare to come across a "made in France" so you need to take that in consideration. You might end up waiting a very long time for it or it might not pop up at all in the near future. I still wonder what the messy seam was... how did it happen and how would they have overseen it in the production phase. CHANEL is getting sloppier by the minute with their quality control and production speed. So sad... but I still love the history of the brand so much and the aesthetic ;) xoxo

Super Dacob thanks Dacob for a speedy reply! Too bad I can't insert pictures here on KZbin. Anyway, I may end up getting the made in Italy large size. Seeing as it is near impossible to come across one made in France (I've even checked 2nd hand sites as well.) Perhaps my next purchase could be a smaller classic flap for special occasions - those are most likely made in France.
@jas92337 жыл бұрын
Hey Dacob - I thought you would be one of the first people to be excited for my latest purchase! Out of serendipity, I came across a large "227" reissue in black distressed calfskin and ruthenium hardware that is MADE IN FRANCE! Can you believe it!!?!! I was jumping for joy!

Love the informative video. Is it the SA's who stuff the NEW reissue bags at the time of purchase? Are they stored flat?
@SuperDacob7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Malaika! The reissues are stored in many different ways in the boutiques but they should be stored standing up right. Or better yet if you have the option and space, the best way to store them is to hang them off something rounded. xoxo

Super Dacob Thanks so much for the reply. Got my first one yesterday. Was looking at the area (bottom bit) that separates the flaps - the section where you advised never to put anything in. Is it normal to see the stitching at the base? You response will be highly appreciated. Thanks so much.

+flybird Smith some bags change beautifully through time while others don’t change very well. Difficult to generalize. I guess it depends on the bag type

Super Dacob Yes, I agree. I was referring mostly to the reissue Chanel. Which one of the Chanel Bags do you think ages better, the lambskin or the reissue?
@SuperDacob7 жыл бұрын
I think they age differently since those leathers have very different characteristics. Lambskin, if not over-scratched ages better. The distressed calfskin of the reissue shows less wear all in all.

Hi, could you share exact nuance of the bag? It looks like something in between black and navy blue, so unique
@SuperDacob3 жыл бұрын
Its black. But each black has either a blue or red undertone. Thats how black is made so when you project a strong neutral light on it, the base always shines through. This happens with all black colored clothes as well.

Very nice and informative video. I love the reissue but got the mini square in lambskin as my first Chanel bag. Now I'm considering the chevron mini in calfskin. I saw that the calfskin has a grainy texture too. Does it mean that it will age less beautifully as well like the caviar? Thanks.
@SuperDacob7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Cindy. Caviar leather is calfskin too. The mini chevrons are made in differnet materials and there is a version in caviar as well which is the version I think you are talking about. All CHANEL bags can age very well if one takes good care of them. Caviar ages very well when one doesn't treat it like it were a tank ;) xoxo
@cindexq7 жыл бұрын
Super Dacob oh I see. That's very helful cause in the store the grains on the chevron and quilted pattern are different so it got me a little confused. Thank you! 😊
@SuperDacob7 жыл бұрын
There are also variations to the caviar grains depending on how they treated the leather. Also there is a difference in quality of leather. I feel like CHANEL uses the best quality leathers for their iconic classics and the seasonal pieces. With most pieces made in Italy the quality of the leather might be inferior at times.

Lambskin and calfskin are inherently fragile leathers as they come from baby sheep and cows. Distressed leathers get the snot beat out of them in their processing at the tannery. The result is a very soft and supple leather that needs more maintenance than embossed leathers such as the caviar, or hard faced leathers like deerskin/goatskin or the exotics. Even more vulnerable and luxurious are textiles such as tweed and jersey. Case in point, I had a distressed calf jacket that was like butter...and after about a year literally fell apart in my hands from being over-loved. All bags will eventually loose their original shape as the bag is used, and the leather relaxes and flexes. Obviously the 2.55 is especially vulnerable due to the shape of the bottom. Dacob stores his bags like they are museum pieces and as a result they look like they are hanging at the boutique. I would say the average consumer might slip it back into the dust cover and call it a day. Personally, I like a bag that looks like it has been loved and appreciated. All leather (especially the naked leather found in Louis Vuitton bags) will develop patina and wear over time, and I love seeing it in the street. To me, it says "I think this is part of me and I love it!" Keep your leather goods gently cleaned, preserved, and protected and they will last generations.
@SuperDacob7 жыл бұрын
I have to dosagree dear when it comes to CHANEL, caviar leather is more fragile to the test of time than lambskin. If not treated properly, caviar really looks bad after some years while lambskin ages like a queen ;) Again, this is only when speaking of CHANEL bags... xoxo

Well... the truth of the matter is that we will never be able to unlock all the secrets the 2.55 bag carries within. There are more secrets added as time passes by. The only true orphanage elements are the blood red interior color and the motifs on the chains... the rest is myth... xoxo
