My husband bought my classic medium flap in 2018. Caviar. 4900. Wow what happened in 5 years. I like the mini better for me and the 19. I’ll buy those instead. I agree it’s a business and they will charge what they want. Wow the sales tax in Canada is a lot. Ours is 7%. great video. Tfs

It’s crazy to think I bought the small classic for 6 K in 2019 now it’s double. In a way, people who have the classic flaps already the price increase makes no difference. People who want to buy it first time will continue buying. It’s different for Hermes bags as they have so many different colours and two classics the B and the K. Also people forget that you end up spending twice the amount in an Hermes store and may not get the bag you want. At least in Chanel you can walk in and get the bag you want.

I think you bring up some very good points. I want to point out that Chanel is still growing in profits. I honestly don’t think they’ve reached the point to put off consumers completely, as you pointed out at the end. I like your statement about appealing to the wealthy as well. I’d imagine the classic flap will be getting a slight update for more exclusivity and justify its final price, if the goal is to be more exclusive.

The only thing I learned from a sales associate is that they cannot do any repair work on the lambskin on a 19 even in black going forward that made me a little nervous, but the 19 is such a beautiful incredible bag

I do think inflation is truly affecting the productivity of luxury fashion. In that the price increases are economically sound. However, there are far too many complaints about bag quality to justify the increases. Where’s the 24K Gold hardware?

Great points and comparisons! I just looked at our Canadian site and a WOC is about $ 4200! I believe it was about $3500 before the increase. I agree with your points. Just to add, my SA had mentioned that Chanel increases the prices to help keep the value of your purchase but who would think it would be so much or at the rate they do them. That said, I will continue to buy from Chanel however I will still remain very selective because I do like the aesthetics and the history of the brand but I wonder how high these prices will go before they slow down? Maybe as something contributing to the price increase they also feel if they increase it so much that it is almost the price of RTW, maybe customers may choose to buy the RTW instead which is what Chanel was first known for? (I have heard their RTW sales are less than their handbags but I do not know if this is true or not). Hope you have a great day and weekend! ❤

Hi Oxana, I understand your process of thinking but I have to disagree with you. IMHO, Chanel is doing this to keep the true loyal customers, if we can afford Hermes Bs and Ks plus the “journey spending”, we can definitely afford other brands as well in this case Chanel. I think most ppl would have to decide wether they are true luxury Chanel lovers or just the ones that flip their bags to get a quick profit to then go on a video saying, “I am now going to buy Hermes”🙄. Don’t get me wrong, I love both brands but Chanel is always my top brand, and I find that Chanel always have many more seasonal beauties not just the classics😊Both brands are also completely different esthetics. As for me, If I decide to get a classic, then that means my other luxury spending would be less through out the year, definitely I would have to be more careful of what to get and make sure that would remain in my collection, no room for mistakes lol 😊

@@OxanaLV 💯 agree with the exception of Hermes is not perfect either, but don’t say much about that. I had two bags already a B and a K and neither was PERFECT, but of course that doesn’t mean anything to me or will stop me from loving the brand. No brand is perfect, this is coming from 16 plus years of buying luxury handbags from different brands, but we love them regardless don’t we? 😉🙈☺️

I think it’s working too. 😂 People see Chanel as a more exclusive brand than Dior and LV which are both very similar in quality to Chanel’s. The reason? Chanel is more expensive and exclusive. 😂 Of course, the CF, like you said, it’s timeless and always sooo beautiful and elegant to me. 😊

I’m done buying anything Chanel except their shoes. I have one lil bag I got years ago and rarely use it (it has since tripled in price), but I will buy Hermes. I have a B35 and want a B30 or Kelly 28. I’d rather invest in their quality than waste money on Chanel’s inferior quality. They can increase their prices all they want to, there’s only a select handful of people who will continue to support inferiority, I’m not one of them

Before Chanel try to level up with Hermès , they need to solve their quality issues! Whatever price they put, Hermès will always have the upper hand!! but I do agree with you, Chanel is becoming so greedy and at one point, women will stop buying their classics cause the quality does not match the price.

I have a theory here. I think the quality issues might be done intentionally. I think the market has just become saturated with Chanel bags, pretty much everyone and their dog has one now and there are also a ton of fakes out there. They are just way too trendy right now to the point where there are little girls in middle school wearing fake Chanel items. I think the price increases paired with the quality issues is going to slowly make them less popular and more exclusive so that in maybe 20 years they will be back to where they were before this explosion in popularity, and can then focus more on the quality, exclusivity, and the brand experience again.

Disagree. Middle class people also buy from Hermes (lots of their customers are middle class people). I guess Chanel wants their customers to buy all the other stuff (rtw, jewellry etc). So many people bought the Classic flaps like the LV Neverfull and Chanel wants to make them more exclusive. Also their shoes (shoe prices now are also insane) Thats just my opinion.

Chanel designs are getting very boring, just repeating those designs that work in the past. They might as well close the shop to ordinary folks n only open to VVIPs. The direction that they are moving towards is certainly elitist n very disgusing. I wouldnt even step into a chanel anymore. Let those who cn afford continue to pay the prices n chase the uninspiring designs.
