When I was Cassandra's age, we didn't have an Ulta or Sephora. We didn't have the internet to research ingredients. We didn't have all these brands, for that matter. Chanel was a brand that was sold in upscale department stores, not in any department stores anywhere near me. I didn't like drugstore brands because I couldn't test anything, and there was no return back then. The brands I had to choose from were Lancome, Clinique, and Estee Lauder. Estee Lauder was a brand that your mom or grandma shopped at. Clinique was geared towards teens or barely 20-year-olds. That left me with Lancome. You all should be really thankful for having such an abundance of products and knowledge at your fingertips and within driving distance! I constantly amazed! 💜

I bought a skin care routine from Chanel a couple of times, it did absolutely NOTHING for my skin, didn't even feel luxurious compared to my far better, inexpensive products which work today! Thanks Cass, your the best! I'm most excited to try the Three Ships mask, Isntree sunscreen, Pure AM milky due and some actual Matcha tea to drink!

Honestly when I was young I was dreaming about having Chanel, Dior and other luxury brands. Was the victim of lack of knowledge and the target of their commercial communication. I used to take samples in sephora when I could. Now I just laugh about it! Thanks to all you tubers that have this educational purpose. Thanks to you and my research I'm in a point in my life where I can read an inci list and my skin has never feel better and guys that's so important in my life. I'm 40 and wish I had all this information earlier (like the need of sunscreen) but let's forgive ourselves and continue to learn and grow. Kisses from France. 💋

Don’t get me wrong I disagree with the price point of luxury skin care, but I think it is extremely discrediting to the cosmetic chemist who work on these products and develop them, just to hear that the brand it’s self doesn’t know how to make skin care. It’s not like the same people who are designing Gucci bags are also developing the skin care. These are paid contracted chemists who are educated and know how to formulate products. Like I said I understand the sentiment of luxury being overpriced and inaccessible, but I do think it’s wrong to say that the people who make these products don’t know what they’re doing.

Chanel researches each product for at least two years, developing a sensorial experience with the right texture and smell and effectiveness and ingredients. They are at the forefront of skin care, trying things others don’t, using extraction and farming processes that are new and different, developing products to make women look and feel better. They make me feel better and more confident. I love the smell and the way they make my skin feel. What one may call a ‘waste of money’, I call an investment in myself. I detest the hate, leave those who enjoy to enjoy.

@@Benjamin-ny5wc then yes that is one that definitely one shouldn’t support. Hers is a bit murky since she basically wanted to block the actual owners from getting Chanel because she did a bad deal in her end (not their fault), just how the times were. And she used her antisemitism to try to get the Nazis to give her The company back. There were other ways to try to negotiate that. But there are companies that worked with the Nazis because they thought they had lived so long; that a dictatorship wasn’t going to kill them or stop them. But all old companies have Nazi ties or had to work for the Nazis directly. Audi, etc. this is why I hate the Nazis and any dictatorships because it leads to this.

I’m glad you made a video about this bc their marketing was getting me! I would never spend that much on a serum, especially because yes the ingredients didn’t seem that great; the main focus obviously was the camellia japonica. Camellia japonica actually does have caffeine in it, I would assume any camellia would since they are in the same genus. They say they use an extract, which is typically from the flower itself so I think yes it may not have caffeine.

Pyunkang Yul isn’t cruelty free, Cassandra. Neither is Paula’s Choice anymore (they started selling to mainland China in 2021 - a lot of bad things seems to happen in 2021, this being one of them). I thought this might be important. I heard it on Mad About Skin. One good thing that happened in 2021, is Garnier gone cruelty free. They have great vegan micellar water - I especially love the Micellar Rose Water Cleanse and Glow and Green Tea Purifying Cleansing Jelly face wash. 💗

Of course there’s a lot of great products that unfortunately isn’t cruelty free. Holika Holika for example. But I would have a hard time looking my dog in the eyes after I have done my skincare routine if I have had more products than necessary that was non cf. Once to two times a week - but absolutely not more than two times a week, I wash my hair: I use Garnier Fructis Hair Food for my hair - and my hair is down to my ass, literally, so I’m doing something right. I also use Castor oil mixed with Garnier Fructis Haitfood Banana or Papaya hair mask (all over my hair and scalp) once a week for an hour up to over night. That’s doing wonders! I’m using The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid Anhydrous Solution in my scalp once every week as well as rosehip oil once every two weeks, sea buckthorn oil and a marula oil conditioner mixed together (like a tablespoon of the marula oil conditioner and just two drops of the sea buckthorn oil) and I use this in the scalp. It’s important to not use the sea buckthorn oil on its own because it might colour the hair! And cover the floor and surrounding so it doesn’t get stained, and you might want to cover yourself up with an old T-shirt that you not hold too dear, like that kind of T-shirt that you wear when you’re coloring your hair. The sea buckthorn+marula hair mask is just that - a hair mask. So in 15 minutes to half an hour it’s time to rinse off and maybe use a conditioner for the best result. I’ve been very sparse with shampoo the last five, seven maybe even ten years and I’ve only seen the best results ever. What I’ve used to wash my hair? Conditioner and hair masks that contain salicylic acids and/or lactic acid. The scalp needs to breathe. That’s the only thing to have in mind. But I’ve noticed that you can put a few drops of salicylic acid in the scalp (especially the salicylic acid anhydrous solution by The Ordinary with a little linoleic acid seems to be working perfectly) and just use your fingertips to massage a little bit while the conditioner/hair mask is doing its job before rinsing it out. 👍👍 Works like a charm every single time 😉🙂

A tiny tube of a Korean moisturizer can seem cheap for $10 compared to $15 or $20 of an affordable brand from the US, but you end up spending the same amount when you see how much product you’re getting. I still don’t mind spending the $ because I like K Beauty, and it’s often times better than other skincare. But saying it’s cheaper is misleading. Not criticising or hating here. I’m just tired of seeing people shout from the rooftops that k beauty is cheaper when it’s often not.

I still think most Asian skincare is cheaper in general. Most facial moisturizers in the us( not including brands like CeraVe) and Asia are about 1.4- 1.7 oz. Obviously there are exceptions since it really depends on the brand and skincare line. It's cheaper to purchase an apieu cream than some of the brands that target and Ulta carry. If j-beauty is included in this as well, I can get an 100 ml hada labo premium gel ( the yellow tub which is almost exactly the same as the the plumping gel ingredient wise) for about $20, which is still cheaper than most American moisturizers I have bought. In terms of serums 1 oz is pretty much the standard across the board so paying $12-$20 for an Asian serum is usually cheaper than most of the brands that the drugstores even carry. Though we do have some cheaper options like good molecules, inkeylist etc, I still think Asian skincare tends to be cheaper overall. But like you , I would pay for it even if it wasn't because I think it is definitely worth the coin.

@@cassandralayman831 I think it’s comparable if you look around. Also, Target is coming out with some great affordable skincare lines. I’m loving Byoma, and most of their stuff is under $20. There’s also Sweet Chef, Naturium, Elf, etc etc. I usually run out of my k-beauty stash way before my Byoma stuff. (I don’t generally use Cerave because there is something in the formulation of their products that stings and makes my face red for a minute, then goes away. My face is fine afterward but that initial sting is enough to keep me away).

Thank you so much for breaking that down, I was curious about it and now I know! Learn & Turn!! I also want to say, I’ve gone through all my skincare items and I need an update haha. Things that don’t work need to get thrown away, and things I thought worked were working short term and then just sucking the natural barrier from my face since the products FIRST ingredients was, “dingdingding!” Wateeeeerr, yikes! -looking at you Pro-Active and Dior-ahem* Way to ruin my and my husbands face in the long run! I have our shopping cart loaded with safer and truly working products ready to go!! Again, thank you so much!!!!

Hi. As always I want your dead honest opinion (and fact). The two faced hangover pillow cream. It's a night cream. I got a sample from it with my last order from sephora. It looks like a glitter cream? Maybe? I don't know. But I would love a review on their products. It's not a cheap cream if you would buy it. Not extremely expensive either but I want to know about the holographic in that cream. Lots of love from sweden.

Logically, Skin has changed the formualtion of the suncreeen and now it's only SPF30+, it has been a while. This is my absolute favourite sunscreen, none others could compare. In fact, i just stocked up 10 of them. The change was very shady tho, all stock ran out shortly after the korean sunscreen controversy and they didn't have any say in whether their formula stood the SPF test, their customers commented on their socials and got no answer for that. Some websites even took the sunscreen off their selling lists. And then 2-3 months later they came back with the exact same filters concerntration, now just with added 1% of the dipeptide-12. They said they decided to reduce "the labelling" to SPF30+ to "make it appeared more ideal as an daily sunscreen" which rubs me the wrong way wholeheartedly. If they could have just stood up and admitted that their formula failed the tests and they would be reformulating it then it's fine because the formuala was, and still is outstanding, could crush anything on the market and lots of them contain alcohol to inhance the texture while this one doesn't (yes i know there are other benefitcial properties of alcohol to sunscreen vehicle but doubt that alcohol really is there do the heavy lifting), and it abosorbs seriously like a dream. It's similar to Krave Beauty and the way they acted around their sunscreen. It was through and through shady and dishonest to me, misinformative executed course of action. Whilst i am still buying this because i've been trying to find something could replace this (my seller has it down to $9,99 during the sales and this is why this particular sunscreen is top knot for me even tho it's only 40ml, which honestly is not economically sustainable but the $9.99 sales justify the continous purchase motive). I'm no longer recommending this suncreen to people, i used to always recommend this even to people with sensitive skin, lots of them loved it. So unsure how long until they stop getting my coins.

Chanel has a shady past but she was a visionary, and the brand continues to make good quality products well worth the money today. Their fragrance line for example is absolutely top notch. As for the skincare, feels more like a cash grab but the packaging is pretty. I wouldn't mind having them on my dresser but with others out there that could work just as well (if not better) at a lower price, I don't think it's likely for me 😂

I only wear chanel makeup and skin care and tbh it's not a cash grab it actually works you just need to know what to buy but im 32 getting mistaken for 15 so im living proof it works yes it's pricey so I buy it at shoppers so I get points back that I use to get chanel skincare and make up for free now all these other luxury brands are fake af apart from chanel I only use organic fruits or vegetables on my face as mask if I can't eat it it's not going on my face for example fresh pumpkin and eggs with a hint of turmeric and nespresso coffee two days in a week will change your life and then I use a chanel vanilla exfoliating scrub twice a week as well and the other days I use aloe turmeric, nespresso coffee grains and pomegranate and I drink lots of water work out when I can but i will never stop wearing chanel skincare or makeup it works amazing and now that I've listened to this im gonna add green tea in my diet my mom uses it everyday but I always hated the smell lol

Luxury products isn’t for everyone. If you can’t afford it, no need to hate and call the people who buys and consume them stupid . I use Chanel cosmetics and skin care products and they do wonders for my skin. I’m in my late 20s. I’ve tried the drug store and department stores ones and they only made my skin worse. I don’t get the hate for Chanel. It’s called luxury for a reason. Normal or low income people can’t afford them and they are never the target market for it. Never a fan of people putting businesses down just because they’re jealous or can’t afford them.

I said this once and I will say it again. Camelia oil, which is extracted from the seeds, was used as a skincare product in east asia for a loooooong time. Hair oil, face moisturizer, lip tints and even polishing knives and sword. The oils are also edible. It doesn't go bad easily too, so that stuff was a luxury ingredient and still is fairly expensive. Probably not as much as Chanel's products but still a quality ingredient enough that it will increase the price of a product. Speaking of which, I really don't consider 40ml sunscreen that is about 20usd affordable per se. Not expensive but definitely not that affordable either. If it was at least 50ml i would have said yeah sure but 40ml? Yeah no.
