Are there actually any over the counter products that work on the deeper levels of the skin past the epidermis? Over the course of like 10 years of not caring about sun damage, my face has turned a lot darker than the rest of my body. Strangely my nose and cheeks have remained the original colour but the surrounding area, especially the forehead, has developed deep pigmentation. I have tried many products, but it's not really reducing the deep pigmentation. It simply makes me look brighter under light.

@Kknderbueno2 жыл бұрын
@@palestar828 retinols are technically a type of retinoid, but usually people use the words to differentiate prescriptions (and adapalene) vs the other OTC stuff. You can use them together, but if they’re used at the same time (on top of each other) you’re kinda increasing the chance of irritation with pretty much no benefit. You could do alternating nights of retinols and retinoids, or use a photo stable one during the day and a different one at night.

I’ve been using The Ordinary’s Granactive Retinoid 2%, Ascorbyl Glucoside 12%, and Alpha Arbutin for almost two months now, and the small age spot on my chest and the ones on my shoulders are slowly fading (I was diligent about SPF on my face and neck from my early 20s but forgot my chest, lol, and my shoulders always tanned first when I was a kid). I’m thinking of ordering their Ascorbic Acid & Alpha Arbutin combo serum, along with the Resveratrol for non-retinoid nights. I’m also trying to get in the habit of using the retinoid and C on the backs of my hands on alternate nights, as the age spots there seem to be fading, too, even with irregular use. It’s thanks to you I learned how to use the AHA/BHA peel on my face. I’d given up and was using up the bottle on my hands, but my skin can actually tolerate it for five minutes every week or two, My skin is looking really good, and it’s not costing an arm and a leg, which is awesome!

I have problems wirh hyperpigmentation - my skincare easily get irritated, I always get red patches where it became irritated, and the red patches become dark when they heal. I spent years trying to figure out what irritates me and battling the dark patches. In the beginning of 2021 I bought skincare products with short ingredient lists (like cosrx, iUNIK) and very few actives (before I thought that more actives meant better skin) and my skin finally healed and my dark patches disappeared, not to mention my skin isn't irritated. Now my routine is really simple - it only includes actives like vitamin C (not in L-AA form, as it is irritating, I much more prefer for example 3-O-Ethyl-L-ascorbic Acid or MAP), galactomyces ferment, CoQ10, niacinamide, vitamin E. I could mention a few more, but those are my "safe" favourites. For chemical peel I simply use enzyme peels, as acids like PHA, AHA and BHA are too much for my skin. Obviously I also use SPFs on daily basis.

Great video :) although the spf isnt one for anyone who gets hyperpigmentation in the form of melasma as it has octinoxate. I’ve struggled for years with mine and it comes up in island shapes all over my face. I kept being recommended chemical spfs or chemical and physical mixed spfs. The causes a chemical reaction in the skin causing faster onset of melasma. Now since changing to a physical/mineral only spf with high zinc oxide and titanium oxide my melasma is nowhere near what it was. The minerals bounce the light off your face. It’s also good to get a tinted one since it contains iron oxides.

I suffer from Melasma and have for years due to hormone imbalances and changes brought on by PCOS. I had a horrific mask that darkened so bad back in 2020. It was to the point that I wouldn’t go anywhere unless I had layers of color correcting makeup and foundation on. I felt hideous. I started at my new Derm clinic and my Dr she was my god send and when I said something she looked at me and said so matter of fact “ You’re beautiful and I don’t think it’s that bad but I refuse to have you feeling insecure or unhappy! You work to hard to stress about your own skin. Lol Let’s fix this. How’s that sound?” I was so worried about cost and she said oh stop perks of being my MA. She got me on hydroquinone, turned me on to a much better sunscreen (Elta MD baby!) I was just using banana boat lmao after over hearing sunscreen would stop the darkening at a Dr. Appt. She recommended a few procedures and treatments that would help long term. I did have a few done. I had about 4-6 in office medical grade chemical peels, I can’t remember exactly, but they did wonders. I will warn, the peeling takes massive patience. As you do not want to peel or pull the skin that’s coming off. You have to allow it to slough off on its own, while just making sure to keep your skin extremely hydrated(it drove me crazy tbh! I had huge pieces of dead skin, looked like a snake shedding lmao! I wanted to pull it off so bad!) I also changed my whole skin care routine. Hyperpigmentation takes a lot of work. Yes Melasma is it’s own beast for sure! But once your skin changes color due to damage, hormones, or acne scarring it takes work to fade that color! I love that Cassandra is promoting having the proper skin care routine for hyperpigmentation. That being said be prepared that it may not work for a while, or at all. It may take a few tries with many fails to find what your skin will accept. Also you may need to take bigger steps or seek a dermatologist to assist in looking into alternative treatment options. Also FYI from your derm MA, Hydroquinone is wonderful when used correctly, due not over use it. Follow the docs orders, don’t buy off line and use on your own. Rebound pigmentation is 100% real. Also WEAR YOUR SUN SCREEN!! Every day. Especially if you have hyperpigmentation. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. 😁

What a great video Cassandra! I forever had freckles (and love them) Are freckles considered hyperpigmentation? Also I'm aging and have a duhadrsted skin. Dont think that vitamin C is a good option for me...Any suggestions?

For skin types 4 5 and 6, do not use aha or glycolic acid. Use bha and pha instead. Lactic acid is good and tranexamic acid. And retinol. Or pick up a product called "Faded". Also sunscreen all day long and if using anything that emits blue light on your face. Best suncreen is Altruist brand spf 50. It has uva and uvb protection.

Altruist is literally the best sunscreen I’ve ever used! Doesn’t irritate my skin or eyes which are very sensitive. Fragrance free, cheap, comes in big bottles… nothing not to love about it. I wish more people talked about it.

I wish you could specify for which skin types ie: melanated skin/ indian skin/black skin because hyperpigmentation is so nuanced for melanated skin types

I used to deal with herpes simplex virus and eczema for the past 2 years until I got a review on KZbin about Dr. Odion who cured hsv2 with his herbal medicine. I am very happy to be cured of hsv2 and eczema after taking Dr. Odion's herbal and I hope anyone here with the same conditions or other illnesses will contact Dr. Odion for an herbal treatment🙌. kzbin.info/door/LJPudFNpftjjnmFkkPGt7g

Just the video I wanted to see! Cassandra, I’m in Canada and Zitsticka Megashade sunscreen serum isn’t available here. What would you suggest as an alternative sunscreen for hyperpigmentation and acne. Thanks for your great videos. So informative!

Dear Cassandra, can you please make a video about hand creams and anti aging and it’s ingredients? I really miss these types of videos and if body or face creams can be used as hand creams instead of buying hand creams

Hello There. I would really like to know your opinion about ..CeraVe Tinted Moistuizer.SPF 30.I just love it.It works for my makeup, moisturizer & sun screen.I do understand your reluctance on these products, but please just a word.Thank you!
@smushface39992 жыл бұрын
Overuse of hydroquinone can also cause permanent silvery discoloration of skin. If you’re going to recommend that you should really stress that more is not better and you need to take a break from it every 6 months.

Cassandra, using SPF daily for 2 years now from 17 to now 19 it caused me chalazions, in the two eyes😞 I have naturally BIG lashes and the oil from the sunscreen of the forehead slowly goes does to my eyes, therefore causing pores to get oil in them and creating chalazion… My skin type is combination to oily. My skin transformed into HEAVEN since i started using SPF! But it caused my eyes to be swollen…. I am really sad i cant use SPF…. Especially at my forehead! Please I need help. I AM OBSESSED WITH SPF AS YOU ARE ! But my eyes are getting worse and worse…! I don’t what to do! I need help! Please can you make a video about it…?? So I can get an advice.. There is no topic like that on the internet…. I am so sad… SPF saved my skin….

Charlie Q, Does this happen when you use mineral, instead of chemical, sunscreen too? My eyes used to get awfully irritated, go red and tear up until one day I changed to the Avene 50SPF mineral fluid (fragrance free) and the problem disappeared. (I'm not in the cosmetics business, have no connection to Avene or any other, nor do I get sponsored by anything or anyone).
@charlieq69503 жыл бұрын
@@allegory6393 yes it happens no matter what spf i am using! Currently I am using avene fluid and LRP anti brilliance yet…. No difference at all… even moisturiser I am afraid to use…. Because of my acne prone skin…..😔
