@@LivingOverseasTV I am living in Chiang Mai for nearly 5 years and will leave soon direction south because the super bad air. The burning season (if it´s illeagal or not) is from middle of December till May with AQI number of over 400. At many days Chiang Mai is the city in the world with the worst air and at many days you can´t see the mountains.

Thanks Karo. I have friends living for as little as $500 per month. If you try to find a place in the old city or Nimman area during the busy season then you will have to pay a premium. My budget was based on the high season for only one month and eating very well. You could easily live cheaper. Having a roommate can reduce costs a lot too.

These costs are phenomenally cheap, compared to cost of living in say NZ, Australia or Israel. It’s just ridiculous. In NZ there’s a massive housing crisis, so bad that people are living in cars and using local swimming pools to have a shower. Where has it all gone wrong?

Why do Americans loved to live in Thailand especially with no proper jobs or simply survived as digital nomads as they liked to call themselves ?? What kind of income as a digital nomad can earn ?? Can they survived on that income ??
@LivingOverseasTV

VICTORIA FORSS, Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Many Americans I know are teaching English online or working for call centers, Many more have started their own online businesses. If you are working a remote job for a USA company, it is very affordable to live in Thailand. You can do a search for digital nomad jobs pr remote jobs and find a lot of information about it. Many you people trying to start their own online business can live on as little as $500 USD per month here in Thailand so they come here to give it a try.

$460 a month for apartment, is quite expensive.. in my homecity Jakarta around $1000 a year, 2 bedroom, living room and washroom.. located in West Jakarta, quite prestige district also and integrated with central park mall.. maybe do you have any information for cheaper rent apartment? im quite interesting move to thailand after live in Doha...
@LivingOverseasTV
@LivingOverseasTV 6 жыл бұрын
$460 is what I paid for a single month without any lease. A similar place with a year lease, in the same neighborhood, would be about $300. If you go 15 minutes outside of the Old City and the Nimman area, you can find a place for around $100. There are several good facebook groups that can get you started. Chiang Mai Digital Nomads facebook group is a good start. I hope to visit Jakarta in the next year.

Great video and channel! Yes, you were there for just a month, so rent would be somewhat proportionally more. A person also knows where the deals are the longer they’re there. Your total is still great, and I’m sure that you ate and drank whatever you wanted, and your place was nice. I like how you showed a longer-term resident in contrast. I lived there a year, and my basic monthly budget was: Rent/utilities/WiFi/maid: $146 Food: $300 Motorbike rentals: $85 Gasoline: $15 Laundry: $15 Haircut: $2 Drinking water: $4 Entertainment (movies, tours): $80 Wine: $20 Coffee: $150 (next time I will bring a small espresso machine) Gym:$25 Visas varied, and the laws changed constantly while I was there, yet added a lot more with a trip to Laos, trips and fees to Thai Immigration, a side trip to Malaysia, border runs, etc.

Burning Season is one of the downsides to living in Chiang Mai. I plan on covering this in depth in a future video. There's a lot of information about the burning season online. Some people can't stand it and some don't mind too much. March and April seem to be the worst two months. For me personally, I find that the air pollution of Bangkok bothers me more. With that being said, I love to travel and would recommend enjoying a trip to another part of Southeast Asia during the worst of the burning season.

Hi Charles. At the time of the interview, Dan was living about a 10-minute drive northwest or the Nimman area, towards the mountains. There are many great value apartments in that area. He was on the ED Visa for a Muay Thai study program. I believe he was using the program more for regular fitness than to be competitive in Muay Thai. Many people take advantage of the ED visa for Thai language and Thai Massage also.
