Keen for this build as I have a 2016 Hilux for 5 years now and still love it like I’ve only had it for a week. I did wheels and tyres straight away then spotties 2nd and then snorkel. I haven’t lifted it yet but that’s next. Winning that BROWNDAVIS tank would be an awesome upgrade. Mate would love to see you keep the tub and see what you do with it. Pumped on this build 🤙

You're doing just fine so far. The shock choice is a good one. A good quality standard shock works for the average dude. Next up airlockers, a snorkel air intake, fuel filters if not already on the truck. No general need for the deep wading capability as most average owners don't beat on their trucks, but the fresh air intake makes it a stage 2 must have. Stage 3 Long range or additional fuel tank, UHF setup, rear bumper. Stage 4 Better off-road lighting setup, possible front bumper upgrade, 12,000lb winch, seat covers, trailer towing capability if not already capable, skid plates if needed. After that it depends on what you plan to do with the truck bed. The standard bed is fine for average dudes. In that case drawers, bed cap, lithium/electronics, fridge/freezer. If going with tray you still need at least a half canopy like the GU for the lithium/electronics and fridge/freezer. Roof mounted solar and Maxtrax.

Ok as someone that just brought a 2018 N80 this is grouse Mods I’m thinking of doing first are lift, tyres, rear bar (rear bar to get the spare out from under the car for space for a water tank) light bar and spotties, bull bar and Brown Davis long range tank. Being a p plate as a mechanic means it’s gonna be AWHILE before I can do anything but those are the plans ahah

Definitely doable under 80k Matty ! I’ve just finished setting up a new Dmax and have done it for 80k and that was buying the vehicle for $57800 new with a genuine steel tray and towbar ! The other $22000 went on a MW jack off canopy (out of a box ) Ironman delux bullbar underbody protection side steps and rails Runva winch and safari snorkel and put a set of bilstein shocks (2 inch ) front and back with king springs and just had a leaf added and reset to save a few bucks and Blackhawk upper control arms but rides awesome ! I’ve got a 100amp enerdrive lithium behind rear seats with redarc 1240d bcdc and victron mppt with 2 x 160 w panels witch powers the 80LT Engel on a msa drop slide ! Have also got a gme 4wd pack uhf redarc brake controller windows tinted and seat covers and probably a few things I’ve missed too but the whole thing has come up great ! This to me was a budget build I would of done things abit different if I was to do it again ! Stage 2 should be about safety & protection for yourself + passengers as well as the vehicle IMHO - Bars & racks for mounting recovery gear. But consider stage 3 now IMHO too. Flat tray canopies are most common off-road for practicality however…🤔IF* you want uniqueness, maybe customise a canopy for tub tray to utilise the often wasted space between wheel arches? Will have to consider access to fridge & spare wheel tho (rear door kitchen with wheel mount?) + how to tie height into roof rack IF* adding rooftop tent. Just tossing ideas but Whaddayas reckon? 😁👍🏽

This shits me a bit...33's for (what you admit is 80% road daily driven) is dumb. More unsprung mass, worse fuel economy , more stress on CV's and driveline. For the 1 in 100 times every couple of years an extra 2 inches on the tyre is going to make a difference on a track in front of your mates. (and even then , there is probably a B-line available) 33's and a 2 inch lift isnt legal in Vic (without swerve testing). You only get 75mm total lift... this takes you close to 100mm (With most dual cab tyres being close to 31inch)
