All you need now is diff/transfer breathers, a snorkel and some slider's/ sill protection then and only then the lux will be truly cape/high country ready. I needed all 3 of those items when i did my cape/high country trips in the past. Id love to see what you would do with a mid sized wagon like a prado. Thanks for doing something a little bit different and giving inspiration for a reasonable build that "an average bloke" could possibly do. Love your work matty 🤙🤙🤙

Wish there was something similar to what you do in the states. Seems like some folks don't understand that budget doesn't equal cheap, but it would be cool to see an ultra cheap build as well. The Hilux is sick, if I could, I would've built a very similar truck.

Love the build, excited to be in the draw as a member to win it. Two things I’m surprised you haven’t gone with, especially as you’re making it Cape York Ready, is a set of sliders for protection and a snorkel for the water crossings. I’m sure who ever wins it won’t have an issue with adding them seeing as they get a car for free, but really thought it would be included, seeing as they are about as needed as the underbody protection plates. Good luck to everyone in the draw to win an amazing car.

He only paid $36k for the ute. Which is totally reasonable for a used dual cab. I brand new dmax is about $65k and it’s crazy how many of them you see driving around town. I think this is a way better “budget” build than the $5k unreliable shit boxes that has been done before. I enjoyed those videos but that kinda $5k budget is more realistic for young lads who just want to get out wheeling. And this kinda build is not something you have to bang together in a month, spend all your cash so you have a full on tourer. It’s more reasonable that someone would put this together over the course of a few years and then do a big cape York trip etc. You wouldn’t be complaining about whether it’s a budget build or not if you won it 😂

A UHF will go a long way?? 🤔 Come on Matto, seriously??😁 5-6kms ain't a long way bro, especially when your in dusty flat remote outback country and the rear of group slows and you loose Coms as the rest drive off, one then starts to panic!😮 STILL fit your UHF...BUT ALSO as extremely cheap insurance, fit a backup coms, best being a 'HF' - AM/SSB CB, (27Mhz) for when one is way out remote bush, one of the vehicles (film crew) go a little too far, turn off or go AWOL and get lost OR the last person in the convoy stops for dust or emergency, having a AM/SSB CB you will ALWAYS reach each other in the convoy - period! You still keep and use your current UHF as per normal...but once you DO loose signal or group contact on your UHF, reach over and pic up the AM/SSB CB mic and call out - you will make contact with them as well as all others around you in a 30km+ radius with AM/SSB CBs. Just on 'AM' alone, you get up to 33km! Go press the SSB button..you then have a 15watt HF COMs for contact up to and over 80kms! (even some certain nights, you can get well over 4000kms!) For a while now, all the pro 4x4 touring guys, have a AM/SSB CB hidden away usually under their seats (due to sponsorship commitments) for contact when they are way out on outback remote roads. Even GC from 24/7 a while back saved a guys life when he used his AM/SSB CB to call out for RFDS assistance during a remote trip where due to the heavy rain depression cloud in remote Australia after a cyclone, where they couldn't get any satellite signal locks on either their Satphones or PLBs!! YES - 'AM' CBs are legal and why many off-road and 4x4 pros are using them again, not just for the guaranteed coms between each other, but chat is alot more professional and serious as there is WAY less swearing and Yobboism! 😊 Ebay has second hand 'AM' CBs for just $25-50, or Uniden do sell brand new $120 'AM' (510/520xl) or $220 AM/SSB CBs ('980 SSB') for those serious 4x4ers who always want Coms with the rest of the group no matter how far you stray or when all others in your group slip away. Just a little bit of free advice for everyone..hope this helps those 4x4ers with 'communications anxiety' when travelling remotely. 😊 Cheers 🍻
