Change out old water pump in a Dodge Intrepid with the 2.7 liter engine.

Putting the timing back in place after you loosen the timing chain on the right side of the motor .

Joe, you did a marvelous job and indeed you don't mind hard work in detail. The changeout of that water pump is difficult and most private mechanics hate that job, it typically takes an 8 hour day to accomplish.

The water pump is internal of the engine and if you look here in youtube, folks spend from 6 to 24 hours to remove and replace the water pump, timing chains and tensioners depending on their skill level. You must disassemble the front of the engine and remove a bunch of obstacles like the alternator, power steering pump and hoses, brackets

Thank you Joe I'm going to try your technique on my water pump 2002 Sebring mine was leaking out of the weep hole that is right under the thermostat housing by the bottom bolt

I have the same car. Currently it's at 156450K, and if this is actually the water pump going out it'll be the second one for this car. I had the first replacement in 2011. I'd like to tackle this job myself, but I don't have a lift, or quite enough room in my garage to stack the parts temporarily. It is definitely almost impossible- if not 100% impossible- to see without a lift at least, and to remove the front bumper, radiator, fan and belts. If I at least had a lift I could confirm that it is indeed the water pump again, where it's coming out of the weep hole, rather than just a coolant line/hose under there.

Check the thermostat sometimes the gasket will not seat right and you will have a small leak and overtime the leak will increase. I would just raise the front wheels off the ground high enough to get a view of the thermostat you will need to remove the driver side wheel to see if the leak is coming from the thermostat the way the engine is made you can not see the weep hole because it is inside the engine and you can also tell if it is leaking from the water pump by checking the engine oil if it is leaking from the water pump the engine oil will be a creamy brown color because the water is leaking into the oil pan. Hi Joe. I just got a 2001 intrepid 2.7 with 98,000 miles from my mom. She can’t drive anymore, so I got the car. How long does the water pump normally last? I don’t see any problems as of right now.

Some of the water pump last along time . I had a intrepid for 15 years and the water pump never went bad. Just the thermostat went bad.

A lady who has a 01 came to me with the same problem with the car and she said that the mechanic had told her that she would need to replace the old water pump and he wants a lot of money to replace it. So she brought it to me and I looked into it for her and all it was, was the thermostat that was bad. Not the water pump. She saved a lot of money.

It was actually just the thermostat O ring that was bad but I went ahead and replaced the old thermostat and the O ring.

@@josephmc61 Thanks Joe. I hope I'm one of the lucky ones and don't have issues for a while. I think I'll flush and change the antifreeze with the Mopar orange. I read that doing that might help. Hard to say I guess. I haven’t had the car very long. About a month. I just did some work replacing the pcv vacuum lines. The one that comes out of the back of the valve cover and into the heat exchanger was flattened and disintegrated at the bend. I’m worried about the sludge buildup from that issue. The radiator flush will help and if you have to flush the radiator twice to make sure that you have all the gunk in the cooling system out. You will be good to go. Have a good day and if you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Yes because you can't see if there's anything wrong with the timing and or the lifters check for damage or sludge build up. And you can't get to the timing mark on the gear.

Hi! @joseph clevinger is it possible if I get your number? I personally don’t know anyone who fixes sebring. I live in LA, and might go to Jeffersonville, IN sometime next year around September 2022. I was hoping if you could fix my Chrysler Sebring 2.7L, I wanted to change my water pump, and to install a new and updated Timing Chain. I have 72k miles on my Sebring right now, and just underwent replacement of Valve Cover Gasket. Hopefully it don’t leak before I even go there 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I just removed the chain tensioner and the chain guides and the chain was lose enough to get the water pump off. But you have to remove the chain tensioner first.

Hi i have a chrsyler sebring 2003 lx . 2,7 liter 109 0000 km i had a big coolant leaks right passenger side. a mechanic said to me its water pump . i go another mechanic he change the thermostat and the leak stop after 1-2 days after it start to leakdriver side big leak. so i returned to the second mecanic he test it with pressure (the 3 guy here said its the frost plug between transaxel and engine. I asked him to check the water pump he said the water pump is ok sure. After that i go ro another mechanic he said its the frost plug you have remove the transaxel. After that i visit a transaxel pro he said the water pump after remove the transaxel . what do you think is the problem

I will say that the gasket for the thermostat is leaking if the gasket is not seated properly when it is installed it will leak really bad it is under the power steering unit on the right side under the engine it will look like you have a cracked in the motor but it is a easy fix just really tite to get to and you need to make sure that the oring in the thermostat hose body stay in place or it will leak again I hope that helps you good luck it should only take maybe 2 hours to fix if you work around everything.

If they put the thermostat in and it was not seated properly it will leak. The hose from the bottom of the radiator to the bottom of the engine on the driver side under the power steering unit is where it will be leaking from.

The thermostat gasket is a o-ring that looks like a number 8 and it has to seat in a grove and it is hard to keep the oring in the grove when you are reinstalling the thermostat hose cover.
